PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Hi Everyone, Fall is here, schools started, vacations are over and life has resumed to its usual haze of endless tasks and unescapable obligations. Before we know it, the Holiday season will be upon us and all-the-while, our friendly 4-legged friends stand ready and willing for their next ride. While we have many thanks to acknowledge for the wonderful feast this past weekend at the Mulligan Stew ride, I must call out that we need all of you to support our rides when possible and bring your horses/mules out to enjoy some camaraderie on the trail. The corral is made up of volunteers founded on friendships and a common thread of our love for equine, so please make the extra effort to attend as many rides as possible before year’s end. That’s my plea folks to help promote more riders to join us on the trail. The corral doesn’t work without YOU! Please join us… October 13th is our trail plan meeting for 2017 at the Smarts. Please contact Kat if you will be attending. October 23rd is the Le Chene ride! This is about a 2 1/2-3 hour ride followed by gourmet French cuisine (the best potatoes au gratin). Please RSVP to Sharon (flyer attached). November 18th is our Palm Springs ride out of Los Compadres Stables. Our trail boss will be Pam Oldfield (flyer attached). We will be having our Election Meeting November 17th at Mi Casitas!! Please come out and join us. December 10th is our Christmas party at the Smarts! This will be our first year hosting the party, so help us make it wildly successful. As always, your input for fun ideas is not only encouraged but very much welcomed. This is a closed party for Corral 22 Associate/Full members and one guest. December 20th is Corral 22's famous Christmas Ride in Griffith Park! Paul and Pam led us on a new trail that rode through the old zoo last year. Prizes for Oldest Rider, Oldest Horse and Best Costume! (flyer to follow) Happy Trails! Kat

2016 MORRO BAY RIDE Our annual Morro Bay Campout was held at Montana de Oro Horse camp from Aug 28th to
September 4th. Campers escaping the heat of Southern California were treated to cool, foggy
mornings with periods of blue skies and very nice nights. The horses were very comfortable in
their corrals with lots of soft sand and cool, delicious water. Every time I filled the water
buckets, I thought of the hard work John Richardson and his helpers did when they designed
and helped build the water system for the camps. John passed away last year and we all miss
him dearly.
Riders spent the week exploring the mountains and beaches of the area, climbing high on
Hazard Peak for panoramic views, weaving their way through stands of fragrant Eucalyptus on
Bloody Nose Trail or working their way through the rolling sand dunes to the open beaches
toward Morro Rock.
The proximity of Morro Bay, Los Osos and San Luis Obispo made it easy to drive to shop and to dine at the many wonderful restaurants in the area before returning to the camaraderie of the campfire. Of course, our gracious camp hosts (The Raccoons) entertained us nightly with their antics, especially the young group of kits who regularly raided the trailers!

2016 MT PINOS RIDE On September 3rd, the corral hosted a ride up on Mt Pinos, including a lunch packed in by horseback.
Seven riders met at the Nordic Base parking lot under incredibly blue skies to ride through the pines,
down to Shepherd’s Camp where trail boss Tiffanie Bailey provided a delicious lunch, all packed in by
horse-special thanks to Toby, our steadfast Pack Fjord!
The weather was perfect and the 360 degree “On top of the World” views were amazing. We were glad our mounts were in good shape and experienced as we worked our way from almost 9,000 ft elevation down steep rocky single tracks to the small, grassy meadow with a nice camp area and lots of trees for tying. Riding back was just as beautiful, with light, cool breezes to keep us comfortable. It was a wonderful way to escape the noise and heat of the lower areas.

2016 MULLIGAN STEW RIDE The Mulligan Stew ride, while small, was actually a blast. Sharon Richardson and Eric Swain
were able to pre-ride and mark the trail for us with red ribbon. Since Sharon was unable to
actually lead the ride, it made for a fun hunt to find the trail. The trails themselves were single
track for the most part and wound through some of the homes and open foothills upwards to a
small mine. We stopped at a picnic table near the mine before heading back and were met by
Sharon's son, Jason, with some refreshments. We returned to the staging area after about 2.5
hours and met up with about 20 people for the traditional stew and garlic bread at Al’s house
(Thanks Al!!). Al allowed the horses to be turned out in his arena and did I say the food was
amazing! We also took home some horse cookies that were made with love by Rachel Swain.
Thanks to Sharon, Eric, Jason, Walt, Bill, Tina and Al for making it all happen!
