Ethernet TCP/IPImagine control architectures with no limits

You can now go beyond the limits of your imagination.Design architecture to reflect your ambitions.

Ethernet meets the wiring requirements of each application with twisted pairs for simplicity and cost, and fiber optics for immunity and long distances. And by using radio, you eliminate any wiring constraints. The only limit is your imagination!Whether linear, cascaded or in a redundant ring topology, ...allowyourself to design architecture over many miles. And performance is always adapted to your requirements! Thanks to fast data rates, the network no longer adversely affects the performance of your application.

Ethernet TCP/IP is the open network par excellence : remote point-to-point access via the telephone network (through a RAS server)or through the Internet, from one end of the planet to the other, for thecost of a local call. Providing support for all types of communication(Web pages, transfer of FTP files, Modbus industrial message handling, etc), TCP/IP is THE high-end standardized protocol support, guaranteeing the interoperability of applications.

The world is changing, and network architecture is developing at anastonishing rate! Old technologies are being rapidly replaced by newones : coaxial cable, twisted pair, fiber optics, half or full duplex, speeds of 10/100 Mbds today and more than 1 Gbd tomorrow.Schneider products continue to be compatible or can be automatically adapted to the characteristics of the network throughthe mechanism of auto-negotiation. Choosing Schneider ensuresupwards and compatibility.

WithFactoryCast, transparency is the order ofthe day...

The Factory Cast configuration softwareis used to manage theWeb site (saving, transferring, protectionetc) and to create realtime links withobjects in the PLC.

Ethernet TCP/IPBrowse freely on Web Automation

Go beyond your geographical limits. Wherever you are inthe world, stay connected and constantly informed…

Freely access your PLC data from an Internet browser. Using yourpassword, remotely access the predefined diagnostic pages stored on the Web server, as well as PLC variables in read and/or writemode. The status of the installation is updated in real time, withoutany intervention. The programing software can be used remotely withthe same level of service as on a local connection.

Customize your applications. Create and store your customized Web pages, such as specific diagnostics, remote control, optimizationadjustments or the inclusion of technical manuals.Create Hypertext links to other Web sites for management of replacement parts, optimization of consumption, technical documentation etc.

As Web servers are based on the standard technology of the Internet, they provide low-cost universal communication solutions. The diagnostic pages supplied with the module are ready to use. The creation of customized HTML pages is as simple as for any Website and does not require any specific knowledge. The data is accessed from an Internet browser without the need for intermediateinterfaces or software.

Premium and Quantum, ready for the future...

Premium and Quantum PLCs have several types of Ethernet TCP/IPconnection, in dedicated communication modules or directly built into the central unit of the PLC. All modules are fitted with an RJ45connector (or a fiber optic connection for the Quantum) with auto-adaptation to speeds of 10/100 Mbd. They support Modbusmessage handling, Global Data, the I/O scanning service and a Web server for diagnostics.

Schneider, ...automatically!

From PLCs tovariable speed drives, and communicationgateways toinputs/outputs,Schneider offers awide range of products adapted to industrial controlapplications.

Schneider,...a natural partner.

Foster partnership with the Schneider Alliances program!Third-party products can be easily included in your architecture. An Ethernet TCP/IP connection, a simple Modbus server and possibly a Web server are all that is required.

Ethernet TCP/IPBenefit from technology adapted to control systems

With Ethernet TCP/IP Transparent Ready and it many services, Schneider is positionning itself a head of it time.

Most control system applications require the synchronization of differentfunctions located in different devices. Only a producer/consumer protocol can guarantee the best response times and ensure a minimumload on the network. Schneider uses this for the Global Data service. After simple configuration, data is broadcast periodically over the network. The stations subscribing to Global Data are automatically updated in a few tens of milliseconds.

Connect your peripheral equipment (I/O, variable speed drives, etc)directly to Ethernet with I/O scanning. This service is managed in theEthernet communication module of the PLC which issues Modbusread/write requests to the equipment on the basis of a configurable time period. The data is then transferred between modules and CPU ateach cycle. In addition, the Web server can be used to configure and diagnose peripheral equipment. Ethernet TCP/IP Transparent Factory is the perfect combination of simple Modbus communication and sophisticated Web services.

The need for guaranteed performance on Ethernet TCP/IP has made it essential to debug the control mechanisms assigning the bandwidth of the module to the different services. When debugging the application, the programmer can estimate and then dynamically control the distribution of communication flows.

Ethernet TCP/IPservicessupport you at each stage of your control system'slife cycle

Standard IT and Internet technologies provide training for proprietorysolutions. In addition, the elimination of interfaces (hardware, softwareand databases) between heterogeneous systems accelerates the design process.Universal network technology, compatible with all communication media, providing security solutions and the network services necessaryfor control systems, can be economically adapted to the constraints of each application.Realtime and interface-free integration with the “e-business” architectureof the company allows the development of new “e-services”.

Easy remote connection reduces the need for travel and time spent on site.A single communication network, links between simplified systems, and an operator interface using a simple Internet browser eliminatenumerous startup faults.

Access to realtime data from an Internet browser located anywhere in the world, without requiring specific training, allows on-line sharing of realtime information not only by the entire company (production, maintenance, quality, finance, procurement, management etc), but also by customers and suppliers. The durability of the technology is guaranteed by the large number ofEthernet TCP/IP and Internet devices connected throughout the world.Technical progress can be exploited directly through simple development, without having to re-assess past choices.Tracking, efficiency analysis, optimization of consumption (energy and raw materials), intervention management, replacement part procurement etc is carried out automatically in real time and remotely, thanks to the inclusion of data capture in the information systems. This is the basis of new “e-services”, a source of competitiveness and growth.

Remote access to not only realtime diagnostic and preventive maintenance data but also to intervention procedures and technicalmanuals, from a simple Internet browser requiring no specific training.Maintenance requirements are reduced thanks to universal technologiesrequiring no specific skills, a simple Internet browser as the operatorinterface instead of complex solutions, standard network administrationtools, fewer interfaces between proprietory systems and no centralizeddatabases.
