I want to thank Mike Smith for coming to our August meeting and telling us what is going on with Medicare and how it will be Modernized. I would like to announce that ETAHU also made Gold certification for the chapter—thanks to everyone for making this happen. Without the right headline, your blog posts, flyers and ads can go unnoticed. A headline isn’t just a final flourish, something to tack on after the writing or video production is done. It’s your critical first impression: 80 percent of visitors will read your headline, but only 20 percent will go on to read the piece itself. Draw readers in this way: Trust. If you overplay the headline, your audience will feel misled. Be useful,
and never waste your reader’s time. Context. Tell readers what’s in it for them. Be captivating, not vague and unin-
spiring. Curiosity. There’s a sweet spot where you make the reader curious to read on. Clarity. Be direct, simple, and tight. Stay under 70 characters. Entrepreneur

A buy-sell agreement for your business funded by insurance can save your family
and your business if something happens to you. How does it work? In brief, it gives
your family a guaranteed buyer for your business in case you die or become disabled,
and the purchase price is agreed upon before, not after, disaster strikes. Moreover, it
gives the buyer the money to carry out the deal. Specifically, if you have partners or
minority stockholders, a buy-sell commits them to take control of your company, and
the insurance enables them to do so. It provides your family a cash buyer with no
fuss.
Have employees with high deductible plans? Here's what you
need to know:
This summer, the IRS expanded the list of preventive care benefits that can be covered by a high deductible plan before
the deductible is met.
Why does this matter? In a high deductible plan, only preventive care is covered before the consumer meets their de-
ductible. The longer list of accepted services means more care will be covered at no or low-cost to employees covered
under your benefits plan.
The newly-covered services only apply when prescribed to treat a person diagnosed with a specific chronic condition,
and when prescribed for the purpose of preventing exacerbation of that chronic condition or the development of a sec-
ondary condition. See Notice 2019-45—Additional Preventive Care Benefits Permitted to be Provided by a High Deducti-
ble Health Plan Under Section 223 ( c ) ( 2 ). This applies only to individuals with a high deductible health plan.
Preventive Care for Specified Conditions For Individuals Diagnosed with
Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitors Congestive heart failure, diabetes, and/or coro- nary artery disease
Anti-resorptive therapy Osteoporosis and/or osteopenia
Beta-blockers Congestive heart failure and/or coronary artery disease
Blood pressure monitor Hypertension
Retinopathy screening Diabetes
Low-density Lipoprotein (LDL) testing Heart disease
Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) Depression
Statins Heart disease and/or diabetes

Before you judge and think I must have fallen and hit my head, please read on. Over the past year, I have presented on multiple occasions on “Medicare for All” and compared it to the healthcare systems of many countries. One of the key points is the cultural differences that exist in many other countries.
Well, last week I traveled through several western European countries and saw some of those differences — several of which were under communist control not that long ago. The countries I traveled through were the size of one of our 50 U.S. states. Over thousands of years, they were repeatedly ruled by different kings, invaders, and dictators.
One country, the Czech Republic, has an amazing story of moving from Communist control in 1990 to a very suc- cessful Capitalist country in just 29 years. When the Communist were in control, our tour guide said, “The Com- munists took everything from us, then said that the citizens owned everything, but we had nothing.” They now have an 18 percent corporate tax rate, which has resulted in the lowest unemployment rate in the European Union of 1.9 percent. By the way, they are the size of South Carolina with a population of 10.6 million.
Now, back to my original comment. The programs we have in the U.S. are AMAZING. Now, I’m not saying they’re perfect. However, it is amazing we have one healthcare system, one currency, one tax system, and one govern- ment…and it all (for the most) part works. AMAZING! The 28 members of the European Union can’t even agree on a single currency — only 19 members use the Euro. It’s easy to see how it might be easier to move something like healthcare to a state-based solution, similar to the country-by-country solutions which exists in Europe. Even Cana- da, often cited as another healthcare system to model, actually has 13 independent provincial and territorial health insurance plans.
The U.S. is different. Since 1776, we have been a Democracy. We love our freedom of choice and independence. We love our ability to work hard and get ahead. Another tour guide in Bratislava, Slovakia lived under Communist rule. She said unemployment was 0 percent — you were jailed if you didn’t work, but there was no work to do. She said, “It was great system for lazy people.”
I think it would serve us well to step back, appreciate, and give ourselves credit for the amazing country we live in. If
we could unify as a country on that point, then we could begin to improve on what we have.
The U.S. Healthcare System (Government, Taxes, and Currency) is Amazing!
