Dear Readers,

With the Christmas celebrations having ended and the New Year just knocking on our doors, life feels literally like a bullet train rushing past. Time is ticking and the FDC, board practical along with the year end exams for the remaining school are staring hard at us right in the eyes. It has been a really interesting year

for me. It was full of incidents, both saddening and maddening. With a little spice here, some sugar there and a lot of masala, 2016 has been satisfactory. A life should be one with a lot of ups and downs. That is the way this year was, never monotonous, always happening. It’s time to look at 2017 now, to see what it has to offer. 2016 is almost gone. Let us put 2016 behind nostalgically, cherish the great, and look to a fresh start which 2017 will provide us with. So, with the last Weekly of the year, let us all make a resolution to stick to our

resolutions and enjoy the New Year thoroughly! Cheers! Bhavini Sharma (editor-in-chief)

HILLY ADVENTURE!

On 21st of December with enthusiasm surging through our hearts, we, a

group of 103 students along with 4 teacher escorts left for an adventurous

journey to Harsh Mountain for IAYP which marked the toughest and the last

stage of our IAYP BRONZE MEDAL journey. The students were more than

excited as they started their journey with their rucksacks packed, water

bottles filled and shoe laces tied up. We began by climbing the steep slopes

of the Harsh Mountain covering a total of 17kms. We were amazed by the

beauty of the mountains surrounding us. After this we were taken to the

hospice where we were supposed to reside, which was followed by the

dinner cooked by us and a cultural program by the students. Day 1 came to an end and everyone was

excited for the next day! Day 2 succeeded in testing our will power as we climbed the steep slopes of Harsh

Mountain and covered a total distance of 14kms and reached our destination, The Harshnath Temple

which was situated on top of the mountain. Even though we were tired, we couldn’t stop ourselves from

capturing the beauty of the mountains in our cameras which included the monkeys, windmills and the

beautiful temple. After having our lunch, which was cooked by the teacher escorts along with students, we

all trekked down and boarded the buses, finally reaching School. Our teacher escorts Ms Priyanka Bajaj, Ms

Isha Srivastava, Mr Sanghi and Mr Kailash were a constant support throughout. I’d like to thank the

Trekking, cooking, eating all day was a part of IAYP. I enjoyed a lot with the naughty langoors and I loved cooking with our teachers and IAYP friends. We cooked our meals ourselves and found that the food also turned out to be quite delicious; although, Noodles are always delicious doesn’t matter who cooks them. We also washed our own dishes in the cold water outside the Dharmshala. This in itself turned out to be a novelty for

most of us. It made us realize how we take the little things of life for granted. Prerna Yadav, VIII

TABLETS VS TEXT BOOKS

Let’s have Tablets!

Using a tablet builds interest and excitement as it is

different from what we usually do. Its novel

functions engage our curious mind to explore and

dig deeper into the amazing world that technology

offers us. It is an innovative way of studying which

enhances our creativity and compels us to think in a

new way. It is portable, reduces the burden of

carrying books and proves to be a compiled source

of working.

It provides an open platform for inquisitive minds

to research and give their ideas a concrete shape.

It would be a step towards the world where

technology prevails and will keep us updated

accordingly. In this new age, everything runs on

technology and one hardly sees a person without a

Smartphone in their hand. In this scenario, I feel

that if every student gets a tablet, it will reduce the

longing for a phone and also help them research

efficiently on certain topics which books might not

be able to provide them. Apoorva Meena, XI

Text books are better!

Books are the written thoughts of a person and

thus won’t fade away. They stay with us at a very

affordable price. Tabs are useful, no doubt, but

they can never replace books. We remember

better through books than through tabs.

Books have their own significance which can

never be overruled by the tablets. Besides,

tablets can also be a source of distraction.

Everyone is aware of the fact that even the W.E.

period we get today, is utilized in a proper

manner by only 15% of the whole school. The

introduction of tablets as a replacement of

books will surely lead the 15% school do better,

but what about the majority who don’t believe

in utilizing it to its full potential and instead, use

it only to listen to music and play games? Tablets

should surely be introduced, but only when we

learn how to utilize them in a productive way

and draw maximum output.

LAST FUN TRIP AT MODY

Excursions have always been fun, but this time it was our last tour from School with our teachers and

batch mates. The visit became even more special because we were going to the city of lakes –Udaipur.

Standing on the east bank of Lake Pichola is a massive series of palaces built at different times, where

we visited the City Palace of Udaipur. Exploring the majestic life of kings, the great exaltedness of the

state did not end here, but also when we visited the magnificent fort of Kumbhalgarh which is

considered the second largest fort of Rajasthan after Chittorgarh Fort. We also went to Pearl Hill or

commonly known as the Moti Magri which is a memorial to the Rajput hero, Maharana Pratap. It is

basically a small hillock, atop which there is a bronze statue of the Maharana astride his famous steed,

Chetak. Finally, we explored the historical Haldi Ghati where we got to know the reason behind its

name when we saw the turmeric colour of the sand in the valley. Karuna Maheshwari, XII Com

WHAT WAS NEW IN 2K16...

"My dream of working in a publication and putting my writing skills to use was fulfilled. I also had the experience of being busy, which was good for once! Time management really helped me slide past it smoothly. I expect 2017 to get me lots of chocolates and I also expect myself to be a bit more sensitive towards the people who really care for me." -Ananya Saria, X

“I joined Mody – this was the newest thing that made the biggest difference in my life. I participated in my first inter-school story writing competition. I also inculcated the habit of reading this year. To cope up with the hectic schedule

of Mody, all that I did was sleep! I expect the coming year to bring better movies.” -Ishita Oganaja, VIII

“I was embarrassed in front of the entire assembly for the first and the last time surely. I also slipped five times in an hour. I also got the title of ‘Hostel ki maa’ for consoling everyone all year through. I maintained my composure through all the ups and downs this year. I expect 2017 to help me get rid of some of my problems. -Radha Agarwal, VIII

“The new thing was the hectic schedule and we really expect 2017 to get us rid of morning sports and also get us lots of maggi. “ -Muskan Sehgal, XI Com

“I don’t have time for this.” -Deepshikha Mitra (on being asked – what was new in 2016)

“Let’s put this in the weekly.” -Bhavini Sharma (all the time)

BACK TO SCHOOL (Alumni Day)

I will just say that when you’re in Mody, there are many restrictions on you and you feel very tempted to

break them but it is important to remember that when you grow up, you will be allowed to break free from

all those restrictions. So, don’t give in to the temptation. Visa Jain (Batch: 2014-16) Doing Medical Coaching

in Guwahati

After experiencing boarding life in Mody, I feel that it is something everyone should experience. It teaches

you independence and helps you manage things efficiently. Kritika Verma (Batch: 2014-16) Doing

Communication Technology Designing from Pearl Academy, Delhi

Mody is my second home, I feel that hostel life was the best part of my life. The teachers here did not feel

like they were teachers, they felt more like family. Riddhi Jain (Batch: 2015-16) Doing BBA from Birla

institute of Technology, Mesra

I was Treasurer of the Mody Student Council. All the sports I know, I learnt from here. Presently, I’m a coach

at my college. Samiksha Mehra (Batch: 2015-16) Doing B-tech from Bareilly

I’m still here. Earlier, I was in hostel 3S2 and Saroj ma’am was our warden. We used to wait for her to go to

sleep and then we had an illegal remote using which we used to watch big boss. Best memory! Pragati

Sharma (Batch: 2014-15) Doing BBA from Mody University

JESUS WALKS ON STAGE

On the Christmas Eve, 24 December 2016 there was an Inter House Competition depicting the birth and life

of Lord Jesus from the Bible. As a member of the audience, it was quite interesting to know the many facts

regarding it. This competition also developed team spirit among the Houses. All characters acted out their

scenes with enthusiasm and confidence. The results haven’t been declared yet but no matter who wins or

loses, what’s really important is participation and the efforts we made. After all, we need not always aim to

be the best but should put in our best and eventually all Houses did so. Anjali Singh, VII

An Escape… Run …. Quick! Hide… but why? It’s Ballet….Oh My! January is gone dancing those Kathakali, Bharatnatyam moves…Ballet is not our cup of tea, dude! We girls like Jazz, Hip hop and Break dance. It’s not that we don’t want to participate, but the hard practice, day in and day out, keeps us away. In school, we do have many more events like exhibition work which is a great fun to be in. Anonymous
