1. Trace the development of the topic of your research paper through all three structures of your memory, according to the Dual Store Model. At each stage, give the verbal or visual stimulus and the cognitive processing for transferring information between stages.

2. Describe the use of encoding, elaboration, and organization in storing in your LTM one of the Theories of Learning we have studied to date.

3. Name a concept you have recently forgotten (test question?). Give four possible explanations for the forgetting.

4. Develop a mnemonic for learning the Retrieval Cues, as either Serial Learning or Paired Associate Learning. State the cues, the kind of list, and the mnemonic.

Sensory RegisterAccording to Brock (n.d.), the sensory register: (1) Receives large amounts of

information from the senses and for a very brief period of time. (2) Assuming adequate acuity, information is automatically registered as a literal copy of input. (3) Quickly decays if person does not attend to the sensory (4) If visual (less than one second), if auditory (2-4 seconds) (5) Does not move information automatically and directly to the working memory. Instead it must be attended to.

Short term /working memoryAccording to Brock (n.d.), short-term working memory is: (1) The place where

information currently being attended is stored. 2. The place where the mind operates on information organizes it for storage or discarding, and connects it to other information. (4) Sensory register and long term memory both provide information to the working memory. (5) Often this happens at the same time.

Long term memoryAccording to Brock (n.d.), long-term working memory is: (1) The location where

information is kept for a long time. (2) No known limits. (3) Typically stored in semantic form(4) Includes facts and general knowledge.
