    ENGLCOM NO5B Entry Essay (Revised)

    The Anger of Muslims

In recent events, weve seen the Muslim people in different countries react to the viral video,

Innocence of Muslims. In most Arab and Muslim nations, they reacted violently by creating riots,

torching the American flag and killing people. Christopher Stevens, the US ambassador to Libya was

one of those people killed in those violent show of rage and anger. Many US embassies around the

world are fearful that they could be next and have tightened their security as advised by US

    President Obama.

The situation in these countries is quite shocking. People shouting everywhere, some

throwing rocks and other objects, others overturning cars and setting them ablaze, and we could not

blame them. The video ill-treated Mohammad, their prophet, by describing him to be a womanizer,

a pedophile and a fraud. Of course, no religion would ever think of sitting idly while their founder

was being insulted. The Muslims have a right to show their displeasure.

However, they could have showed their protest by doing it in more peaceful ways. In the

Philippines, the Muslims spread Facebook messages, as well as photos, showing their concern and

their support for their prophet. Besides, the Philippine Muslims would not dare attack the US

embassy here because of their peace pact with the president. In addition, they are more attuned to

promoting peace and living their lives than risk it climbing walls, torching cars and throwing

    grenades.

People may be curious to ask why the killing of the Stevens happened on the 11 th

anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. One could not help but think: Is there a connection between the

two? The killings were done in an almost professional way, not one made by an unruly mob.

Different militant groups in these countries have started sending messages to their Muslim brethren,

informing them to take up arms and fight. The words of one group were to expel the Americans

    from their country.

Of course, the different governments are trying to quell or negate these riots. They are trying

to protect the embassies from harm, to avoid diplomatic issues, and possibly to avoid the displeasure

of the White House. It seems that these leaders are torn by their desire to gain favor with America

or to protect their religious founder.

The attacks were mainly directed at the U.S. The burning of the US flag, destruction of US

embassies and statements attacking the nation show this. It seems that the Arabs are dead sure that

the culprit, who made the video, is an American, or that the Arabs had already hated the Americans

and were provoked by the video. Either way, Obama has already called the Arabs to lay down their

arms and try to work out peace, rather than fight. Even the pope, the Roman Catholic leader, has

asked the Muslims and Christians to stop their fighting and work for peace.

However, it seems that these talks and pleas have not yet solved the problem. Perhaps,

drastic measures need to be enforced to stop the entire Muslim world from erupting into rage and

anarchy. As to the end of all this trouble, we shall see in a few days.
