ESI MICOCONTROLLER BASED SMPS BATTERY CHARGER BRINGS EXTRA LIFE TO BATTERY

SMPS Advantage

• Compact and light

• Power Efficient – consumes low power

• Low Ripple - ensures good battery life

• Excellent Regulation – no variation in charging current

• Wide Input Window (170V – 270V)

ESI Micro Controller based SMPS Battery Charger is compact, high efficiency charger that enhances battery life and retains its efficiency and prevents battery from early death.

The ESI Micro Controller Battery Charger easily operates in low voltage area and ensures full charge within 7-8 hours and multiple LEDs indicate state of the charge.

SMPS Battery Charger is controlled through on board micro controller precisely programmed for quick charging without damaging life of the Battery.

• Twin fan cooling

• Thermal shutdown

• Vacuum impregnated magnetics for moisture proofing

• Depth of charge status by multiple LEDs

• Audio-visual annunciation of charging termination

• Single card replacement ensures quick servicing

B. Salient features of the Charger

• Protection against input over voltage & surge

• Inrush current limiting by delay and soft start

•?Standard EMI/EMC compliance

•?Protection against over load & short circuit

• Protection against reverse polarity connection of battery

• Proper heat-sinking for good thermal stability

A. For the life of Battery • Pre-programmed multi stage charging• Initial de-sulfation ensures cell balancing,

enhances efficiency & extends battery life• Timer over-ride prevents over-heating & over-

charging of battery• Proportional charging current adjustment with

ambient temperature (temperature compensation)

Operating Instruction1. This SMPS battery Charger is designed for forced cooling.

2. ESI SMPS Charger remains cool with twin fan cooling.

3. Before connecting to the mains, keep the Charger in a well ventilated & clean space for

easy flow of air.

4. See that charger does not suck heavy dust through the front grill.

5. Connect the 3-pin plug to the mains socket.

6. Connect output socket to the Battery.

7. Wrong polarity connection of the battery will blow the output fuse & Bat-Rev LED will

glow

8. Switch ON the charger with the rocker switch provided at the back panel.

9. Charging LED (L1-CHRG) will glow and both the fans should run.

10. After some time Charging LED L1 will start blinking to indicate that proper charging has

started.

11. LEDs will glow sequentially as per percentage state of charge:

a) L2 glows at 30%

b) L3 glows at 50%

c) L4 glows at 80%. Gassing starts, hence current is reduced to prevent over- heating.

d) L5 glows at 95%. L5 indicates “END of charging process”. But L1 blinks.

12. Blinking of L1 means charging is not yet complete.

13. At this stage Charger swings to Constant Voltage (CV) mode from Constant Current (CC)

mode.

14. Gradually charging current decreases or tapers down.

15. After a preset time charging ends and provides audio-visual indication:

a. L1 through L5 becomes steady

b. Buzzer beeps intermittently to draw your attention.

16. But when charger goes to CV mode by TIMER over-ride, L1 becomes steady but L5

blinks to indicate that the battery has become old and needs attention.

Here :

a. L1 through L4 becomes steady

b. L5 blinks

c. Buzzer beeps intermittently.

17. In both the cases LED (L1) becomes steady & buzzer beeps to announce completion of

charging. Switch OFF the mains and disconnect the battery from the output socket of the

charger.

18. Now battery is ready for use.

19. If battery is not disconnected from the charger with power ON then the charger will

charge the battery at a very low current or float charge. This does not over-charge the

BATTERY but prevents the battery from self discharge.
