7 PTA Bearcat Welcome @ 7.30am, Little Theatre

    Dear Elementary School Parents,

We had a great time this morning with our first whole

Elementary School assembly. Student Council took the

lead by introducing themselves and what student counci

is all about. We had a skit about the playground and ho

to use the recess box and friendship stop. Mr. Rourke an

I read a story, and we had a whole school sing-a-long of

We Are Family led by a group of high school studentsand our very own Bearcat Mascot! Our next whole

school assembly will be in October.

Student Council includes two student representatives

from each of the Grade 3 and 4 classes. We meet once

week to discuss and solve any problems that are happen

ing in our school, plan events, work on projects, and we

will communicate what is happening through our blog an

Bamboo Television Elementary edition. The students w

also be learning leadership skills and will be a central par

    of our Elementary School.

Thank you to all of you for coming to our Back to Schoo

nights on Tuesday and Wednesday. We had a great tur

out! It was a good opportunity for you to meet with

your childs teacher, and to meet other parents in your

class. If you have any further questions at this time abou

the school year or curriculum, please set up a time to

meet with your childs teacher. We will be having paren

teacher conferences at the beginning of October which

will give you a chance to sit down one-on-one with your

childs teacher to discuss their learning in more detail.

We hope everyone has a great weekend

    Dear ISM parents,

The PreK-12 Guidance Department is excited to an-

nounce the first Parent Book Group of the 2010-11

school year. The book we will be reading over this

10 week course is NurtureShock, written by Po Bron-

son and Ashley Merryman. Instead of telling you

what this book is about, we invite you to look at the

NurtureShock website http://www.nurtureshock.com/ , to browse the articles and

watch the videos, and decide if this looks like some-

thing you or someone you know might be interestedin. The group will begin on Thursday, September 2

and tentatively meet every Thursday that school is in

session until late November. Each session will begin

at 8 am and finish around 10. NurtureShock is ap-

propriate for parents with children of all ages. Inter-ested parties please contact Myrna Perez in the Ele-

mentary School Guidance Office to add your name to

the list. In the past these groups have been very

popular and fill up almost as soon as they are an-nounced. Spaces are limited and are on a first come

first serve basis. Participants will need to acquire

their own copy of the book by the second meeting. It

is available locally or through Amazon.

We are looking forward to your participation!

    ES Art needs your help!

To help the children build, sculpt and create thisyear it would be really helpful if you could send in

some recycled items that you may have at home.

Here is a list of things we could really use:

    Newspapers Magazines

    Plastic containers Bottle tops

    Take away containers Yogurt pots

Wrapping paper Old or broken toys

DVD or CD covers Old decorations

    Beads Fabric, thread & wool.

This is not an exhaustive list so if you have other

things you think might inspire our creative kids

    please send them in.

There is no deadline for this but the sooner the

better and whenever you have anything just send

it along to school with your kids.

Thank you so much for your help and support,

    Supporting Bilingualism

Please help your child to develop their English as

    well as maintain their first

From the School Clinicrom the School Clinic

As there seems to be a considerable number of children and adults aroundwith cold and flu like symptoms at the moment, it may be a good time to

remind all parents not to send their children to school if they are unwell

and particularly if they have a fever. Anyone who has been suffering with

a fever should be fever free and symptom free, without medication, for 24

    hours before returning to school.

Although we realize that parents are anxious not to disrupt the education

of their children, we would like to stop the circulation of these illnesses

through the school community. If sick children continue to come to school, their classmates and teachers will soon become infected and there will be

further impact on the teaching and learning taking place in our school.

Please help us to protect all of the children, staff and faculty by keeping

children who are not well at home or taking them to visit their own doc-

tor. We hope you understand and support us in our mission to keep theschool community as fit and healthy as possible so that they may benefit

from every learning opportunity the school can offer.

From the PTArom the PTAWELCOME TO A GREAT YEAR AT ISM!

On September 7th at 7:30 in the Little Theater, the ISM Parent Teacher Association is holding a Bearcat Welcome for

    this new school year.

    We welcome our new families and encourage them to get to know each other and to learn more about our school and about Manila: You will have a chance to get to know some social and international organisations;

You can meet and enrol yourself and/or your kids in local clubs (theatre, scouts, gym,..); you can meet and greet our PTA and our Bearcat Den team and give yourself up as a (well appreciated and needed) volunteer

    for school activities;

We also invite all returning families to come and meet the new families, and to enjoy a great opportunity to see old friends again.

Parents sometimes ask me where they can buy iron-on labels for PE uniforms, swimsuits, towels etc. Here is one contact I

can recommend: her name is Malou and her e-mail contact is [email protected]

There are three packages to choose from:

    Package 1 - 30 Labels for PhP 300.00

    Package 2 - 50 Labels for PhP 400.00Package 3 - 100 Labels for PhP 600.00

Only one name can be printed per package. The labels only come in white with black print. Delivery within Metro Manila is

FREE. She will send you an order confirmation and a detailed payment procedure. She usually request clients to deposit

their payment to her bank account. (Details will be given with the order confirmation) The iron on labels will be delivered to

you by courier 3 to 4 days after she receives confirmation of your deposit. Your childs PE teachers will be more than happy

to return any misplaced items to their owner if they are all clearly labeled.

The Physical Education department has a green box in the ES Plaza with sports equipment for children to use during their

play time. It has jump ropes, (short, long and Double Dutch ropes) balls of many sizes and shapes and Frisbees. ECLC -

Grade 4 children are allowed to borrow equipment but need to hand in their school ID to a supervisor who is stationed at the

green box. At the end of play when children return the borrowed equipment they will be given back their school ID. This

system helps students be responsible and be active outside of PE lessons. You can support this program by ensuring yourchild brings their ID to school each day so they have the opportunity to borrow equipment at recess.
