We have a wonderful community at Internaonal School

Manila,with caring and talented students and supporve

families. Ulmately however, we are in the 'learning

business' and as a faculty we are constantly striving to

ensure that we are doing everything we possibly can to

maximize the learning takingplace inevery classroomand

space.

At ISM,we are very fortunate to have teacherswho see

learningasalifelongpursuit. Theyareinaconstantstateof

selfrefleconabouttheirownpedagogyandareonaquest

to seek new informaon about developing and improving

theirteaching. Overthepastweeks,teamsofteachershave

beenulizing their free lessonperiods to visitother grade

levels and specialist classrooms to learn from each

other. They have been looking for learning in these

classrooms, by observing what the students are doing,

listening

for

how

they

are

using

language

to

make

meaning

from set tasks, and nocing the different ways in which

childrenaredemonstrangtheirunderstanding.Ithasbeen

powerful for these teacher teams todiscusswhat theyare

seeing and how these insights can influence their own

pracce.

acultyonWednesdaymornings,todeepenourcollecveunderstandingsofhowwesupportlanguagedevelopmentfo

lourstudents.Teachershavebeenbuildingbanksofstrategies forhowwe idenfyand teach the subjectspecific

ocabulary andphrasesnecessary for students to access the concepts they are learning about. Again, ithasbeen

eacherslearningfromteachersandreflecngonhowtheymightbestcauselearningforourstudents.
