Natural Resources

Only a small part of Maine's soil is suitable for crops. Valuable stands of timber cover about 85% of the state. The forests grow in three broad types—white pine-hardwood, spruce-fir, and northern hardwood. They supply many forest-related industries. Others are fisheries, minerals, and waterpower.
