10. Course overview: This course provides the student with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are essential for effective and
comprehensive nursing care for adults in the uncritical medical and surgical illness. The related concepts of
path physiology, fundamentals of nursing and pharmacology are integrated.
11. Course objective: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Identify risk factors and nursing interventions in promoting and maintaining health in a selected
client population.
2. Relate the path physiology of selected medical/ surgical alterations to the health –illness
continuum.
3. Discuss scientifically based rational for performing selected diagnostic procedure, outcomes and
nursing responsibilities.
4. Describe drug therapies and their related outcomes for clients undergoing medical/ surgical
interventions.
5. Explain nutritional needs of patients with selected medical/ surgical alterations.
6. Demonstrate safe administration of drug and parenteral therapy.
7. Participate in teaching patients
8. Demonstrate effective communication with patients, instructor and health members.
9. Describe pre- operative nursing measures of avoiding the risk of infection and the excepted post-
operative complications.
12. Student's obligation All the student must attend to the lecture, they have to prepare and accomplish all the tasks for this course throughout the academic year. If anyone could not finish his / her tasks or do not attend the lecture will be failed in this subject, otherwise the student have to provide a legal document to be exempt from the university role.

Q: Case Scenario:
A 50-year-old male patient presented to the emergency department at 2 AM with vomiting and abdominal pain. He had
a 2-week history of polyuria and polydipsia, accompanied by a 10-killiogram of added to his weight, and blurred vision.
His medical history was unremarkable, except for being treated for hypertension with amlodipine 10 mg daily, which
provided good control. (His blood pressure on admission was 135/80.) Results of hospital laboratory studies revealed
that the patient's initial blood glucose level was 1192 mg/dL. Diagnosed with Diabtets Mellitus.
How to educate this patient about his diseases? Write down briefly about the nursing intervention for this
