Welcome to the 2014
EHS Magazine
This year, we the year 10 students have the opportunity to share with you what has been hap-pening at EHS in 2014. We have worked hard to capture the Epi High School spirit while picking up new computer skills along the way. Each of us had a hand in taking the photos, writing the passages, and designing the pages you will read. Staff and students have overcome many challenges together and everyone has learned valuable things that will change lives. Us students would like to acknowledge the teaching staff for their effort in educating us, as stu-dents and as the leaders for tomorrow. So relax, and enjoy revisiting the interesting events which happened this year through the pic-tures and student entries about EHS. I am wishing you all the best a prosperous happy new year 2015 and enjoy your reading.

A Message From Our Principal It is such a tremendous delight for me to be back at Epi high School this year, 2014 and especially to be given this great opportunity to greet you all once more and welcome you to the 2014 School Magazine. In spite of a few discrepancies experienced by the school, this year has proved again to be a successful school year. Staff and student teamwork has been awesome. However, since putting together a school magazine as this requires quite an effort, I would like to acknowledge and congratulate all those who have participated in bringing this magazine together again. May I take this moment to extend my special grati-tude towards Ms. Lynn Overmyer who has taken the initiative and effort to involve her year 10 students to produce such a magnificent creative piece of work. Having recognized the numbers skills incorporated into this product, it is my hope that those of you who have contributed in terms of articles for the magazine will continue to build on your creative potentials and participative capacities to be more successful and advanced in the future. May I take this splendid moment to also wish our final year students every success in their final examina-tions and to our continuing students, vie us your best in your examinations. Since this is Ms. Lynn Overmyer's final month with us, I wish to express our special thanks and gratitude once more towards her whole heartedly input to Epi High School as the final Peace Corps volunteer in our IT partnership program. We have been so fortunate to have her with us and will miss her dearly but our hearts will remain in touch. The computer lab she has established with the help of her organization, Peace Corps Vanuatu has and will continue to advance the school in the years to come. May she take our love with her back to her family in Michigan and our times and fun shared together will remain… I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a very pros-perous new year, 2015!!! May God Richly Bless you all!!

Imaginary Squad It happened in the day When we got the name
But we were friends Since this year.
Sweets chances that let steps
abroad How rich and great the time we
spend Through the wild years that will
pass We grow young as we are now
WE the imaginary squad Around the school campus we
had this name WE are the imaginary squad But we move in action with
Laughter, with us is the greatest thing
Over distance you can hear us
WE had our ups and downs To-gether we overcome trials
WE come from different houses No matter what may come our
way WE the imaginary squad.
School life will perish But we will continue to live With memories of our times Together at Epi high school We will love each other in the present and the future We the imaginary squad…

E.H.S Situated in the heart of Laman Bay is where she lay. Too many Vanuatu leaders go by the name E.H.S I will always have a space In my mind and heart forever I can’t thank her enough For the shelter and education she provided Oh how wonderful if I would someday Share the same experience I had with her Through good and bad times. Every one she raised will always remember her. Too bad every one who knew her Will one day have to say goodbye From the day she opens her doors To raise boys and girls of Vanuatu Until now and the days to come They all have their own stories Of how they went through and downs with her May the heavenly father bless her. Provide her with the needs and wants To grow bigger and stronger in her days to

HOW LAMAN ISLAND GOT ITS NAME. Long ago there lived a father and mother and their two daughters named Kamatoe and Kumolor. They lived in a little island of Ma-lekula named Malvaveng island. One day, there was a big feast on the mainland and the family was invited to the feast. But the father decided to send her two daughters back in the island to look after the animals. When they were out at the feast, the place started to get dark so the father decided to send the island away, because he was afraid the young boys would steal his two daughters. So he sang a song and say that the island will run away if the first hen cried the will stop so the two girls live by themselves on the island. One day there is a man from Emae who floods on a heap of co-conut to the island, the man’s name was Tabonga and is running around the bushes when Kamatoe went to feed the pigs she found him and take him home. When Kumolor found the boy she hit Kamatoe and said that she wanted to marry him so the two sisters hit each other and the boy stopped them and said that he would marry both of them. So he married the two sisters and they had children, and changed the name of the island to lamanu island, which means the island of birds and the genera-tions go on till today. By: Kathleen Valia

MY SCHOOL Epi high school, Epi high school
Remember when you were young The cries and echoes of youth
Coming to seek your sweetness From the flowers of your young
Sweet and tender plants. Now those days are gone
Your youth is slowing fading Fading away the will come.
When you are gone Epi high school we will remember
you from the depths of our hearts
Our shouts and laughter are gone We will leave with great sorrow
But you are still the memory The only memory of our education
Your name will never leave us You will always be ours. BY: SALOME PAKOA.
WISH NOT FOR EASE OR TO DO AS YOU PLEASE If wish worked like magic and plans worked that way, too and if everything you wish for whether good or bad for you immediately were granted with no effort on your path. You’d experience no fulfillment of your spirit or your heart. For things achieved easily lose their charm and meaning too. For it is life difficulties and the trials time we go through that make us strong in spirit and endow us with the will to surmountable and to climb the highest hill so which not for easy way to win your heart desire for the joy in overcoming and with understanding flood and fire for to trumph over trouble and grow stronger with defeat is to win the kind of victory that will make your life com-plete. Little Girl miracle, Faithful GodLittle Girl miracle, Faithful God Time catches up in life so fast that I often remind myself that I’m married instead of being a single young man. Before I was married I encountered a tough challenge in my relation-ship with then the woman who would one day become my beloved wife. Family members did not agree that I should continue with my relationship. Negative points about the infertility of my partner is all they threw at me. This was a very important decision I had to make for my life. One good thing I learned in my friendship is that we discussed how we could overcome this issue in life. This challenge of my being not able to get pregnant and give birth to a child becomes the most discussed agenda in our discussion. After sharing many times about how God is working mightily in our lives, taking us far in study abroad, achieving a high standard of education, preparing us to fulfill his purpose for creating us, we turned our problem into faith in God. My partner and I were so sure that God would deal with that problem in our lives and that we would show others how faithful is he to keep his promises in the Holy Bible. Wedding plan proceeded although family members were not satisfied. I pronounced “ yes I do “ on the 14 of December 2012 in my own village. Now that I'm married, am I going to bear a child? Family members kept asking me that ques-tions. My answer to the questions was always positive. We put our trust in God to provide. Almost one year after our wedding, we get the answers to our prayers. My wife was pregnant. We were highly expect-ing a boy in the beginning. Surprisingly, the baby was a beautiful girl. Proverbs 16: 1-3 fulfills that God is the creator and he has control and the last saying to happenings in life. Rosida, Esbel, Kyla, Mugoro is a miracle to our family. We believe God has a Plan for her and we are praying to ask God to help us to take good care for her so that she can accomplish his plan in her life. God is a faithful God. He keeps his promises and never fails. The secret to making God faithful in fulfilling his prom-ises in your life is for you to trust him, Give your life to him, live a Christian life and you will see how God will use you in his services. In here we mostly eat the same type of food every-day, that is bread and tea in the morning for break-fast, rice and tin fish soup for lunch time and the same in the afternoon for supper. Our main food is rice. we can’t go without rice. How-ever we sometimes eat boiled manioc, taro, kumala and banana to mix it up a little.
Even though we eat the same type of food everyday, we really enjoy our meals as a time to socialize and catch up with our friends. And I would like to say that the purpose for coming here is not to eat good food but to study hard for further education. In our technology class we learn all about cooking healthy, balanced meals. We also learn how to bake cakes. (I prefer the cakes!).

The Team
It was an absolute blessing to be given the opportuni-ty to live and work with such shining stars. These stu-dents are some of the most generous, fun-loving, and resourceful in the world. They welcomed me into their lives with open arms and I know that they will take what they have learned and experienced this year in and out of the classroom and design a better, brighter future for us all. Oh my brother, one day you will un-derstand what used to be misunderstood and you will see that you can if another can, can can. Olay Olay, Ms. Lynn Overmyer Peace Corps Volunteer ‘13-’14
