Salesian priest Fr. Crispino D’Souza honours goddess Durga during Navratri

Psalm 95:5For all the gods of the Gentiles are devils…The Douay-Rheims Catholic BiblePsalm 96:5For all other gods are worthless idols…(Even the syncretistic/New Age) St. Pauls 2008 New Community Bible concurs

St. Paul’s teaching on Christians’ being “all things to all men” does not give licence to believers to participate in idol worship and pagan rituals, no matter what some liberal or modernist interpretations might say even using a sentence or two from Nostra Aetate (#2) or other Pontifical Documents in isolation from the context.I prefer to reflect on our ‘jealous’ God’s many warnings to His Chosen People especially in the Old Testament books of Exodus and Deuteronomy. He wanted the people of Israel to maintain not their racial purity but also their spiritual purity. He knew that any interest by the Israelites in the religious activities of the neighbouring tribes would lead to the assimilation of their rituals, practices and even adoption of their gods, and to monumental disaster to the Jewish people, and this is exactly what happened several times over.“You will be lured into following them*.Do not inquire regarding their gods, ‘How did these nations worship their gods? I, too, would do the same’.” Deuteronomy 12:30, New American Bible

*The New Jerusalem Bible: “Beware of being entrapped into copying them.”Whenever that passage comes to my mind, I like to imagine that God was saying “Do not EVEN inquire regarding their gods.”The Philippines Bishops’ Conference’s Christian Community Bible translation reads as “Do not look at their gods, saying…”The Knox Translation, Catholic, 1955, reads “Do not hanker after their observances.”

Since God does not change and truth does not change — though the ‘father of lies’ manifests his evil designs in different disguises and through different means according to the times to deceive those people of God who are unwary — do not God’s warnings hold true even today? Inculturation and interreligious dialogue can be instruments of witnessing to Jesus Christ and His Gospel (John 14:6, Matthew 28: 19, 20) and herald God’s Kingdom on earth, but sadly they are being grossly abused by the Indian church clergy who end up paying obeisance to pagan deities such as Ganesh (Ganesha) or Ganpati (Ganapati) or Vinayakar (in Tamil Nadu), Gokul Ashtami or Janmashtami honoring Krishna, the avatar of the Hindu deity Vishnu And now, ‘goddess’ Durga. This series of articles shows how widespread this spiritual depravity is in the Indian Church and the danger posed to the souls of Catholics through the Hinduisation of the Church in India.

What is Navratri?"Navratri is a festival dedicated to the worship of the Hindu deity Durga. The word Navaratri literally means nine nights in Sanskrit, nava meaning nine and ratri meaning nights. During these nine nights and ten days, nine forms of Shakti/Devi are worshiped. The 10th day is commonly referred to as Vijayadashami or "Dussehra." Navratri is a very important and major festival in the western state of Gujarat and Mumbai,

during which the traditional dance of Gujarat called 'Garba' is widely performed." Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navratri"Every year during the months of September and October, we celebrate the descent of the Goddess to the Earth plane. Navaratri or the Nine Nights/Moons of the Goddess is an important time period wherein the Supreme Goddess in the forms of Durga, the Warrior Goddess, Lakshmi the Goddess of Wealth and Saraswati the Goddess of Wisdom, jointly destroy the demons." Videos of him dancing garba, holding puja thali goes viral Don Bosco High School’s rector Fr. Crispino D’Souza has stirred up a storm after photos of him performing an aarti during Navratri celebrations were circulated on Wednesday. The priest had impressed many after videos of him swaying to garba tunes went viral earlier this week. But many who lauded him for his dancing have now raised questions on his participation in the ritual.Mixed Signals“Participating in garba was a welcome step towards inter-religious bonding. But performing an aarti sends the wrong signal to the congregation,” said Godfrey Pimenta of the Bombay Catholic Sabha.Fr. Warner D’Souza, head of the Archdiocesan Heritage Museum said that worshiping any other god would go against the first commandment. “When I saw the videos, my first thought was that it was a great way of expressing inter-religious harmony. The music that was playing in the background was secular too. But the second image has surprised me,” he said. The image sets confusion in the minds of the congregation, he added. The celebrations took place on the Don Bosco grounds in Matunga on Sunday. Fr. Crispino can be seen dancing in his cassock and holding a puja thali (plate) and clapping during the aarti.

A section of the community has objected to the priest’s dancing as well. “What I didn’t like is that he was wearing a cassock and dancing. Even during the puja ritual, he is in a cassock. No one would have noticed if he was wearing regular clothes and participating,” said Melwyn Fernandes, secretary of the Association of Concerned Catholics. “How can the priests preach one thing and practice the opposite?” he asked.‘Unnecessary Negativity’“Just because I participated in the ritual doesn't mean my religion has changed,” Fr. Crispino said, stressing there will always be some fundamentalists stuck on rules.“For me, what is important is the heart of the law and the reason why it exists. Performing aarti is a sign of respect and brings a lot of people together and I don’t see anything wrong in it,” Fr. Crispino said.“No matter what you do, someone will have something negative to say,” he concluded, in response to critics.

Fr Crispino D’Souza, rector, Don Bosco High School, at the event in Matunga. A poster of a similar programme organised in Bandra (R)

Video of Fr Crispino D’Souza, rector, Don Bosco High School, Matunga, dancing at its all-faith ‘Dandiya Dhamaka’ goes viral; St Peter’s Church, Bandra, held similar event to foster ties with other communitiesThe Don Bosco grounds in Matunga were delighted by an unusual sight on Sunday – the rector of Don Bosco High School, Matunga, in his flowing cassock, gracefully swaying to the tunes of a traditional garba. The setting was an all-faith nine-day ‘Dandiya Dhamaka’ organised by the shrine of Don Bosco, Matunga. A video of Fr Crispino D’Souza, rector of Don Bosco, dancing at the event has gone viral on social media, and many Christians have come forward to laud his gesture.St Peter’s Church, Bandra, also held a similar dandiya-garba event in Bandra, for all nine days of Navratri. Praising Fr D’Souza’s enthusiasm, Godfrey Pimenta, member, Bombay Catholic Sabha (BCS), said, “It is a good gesture on the part of the priest in fostering new relationships with our brethren from other communities.” While Fr D’Souza was unavailable for comment, Fr Frazer Mascarenhas SJ, parish priest, St Peter’s Church, said, “Our church has been making attempts to build bridges of understanding and collaboration with people of other faiths living within our parish area – with the guidance of a committee comprising members of other faiths.”Fr Mascarenhas, who was involved in organising the Bandra event, said the multi-faith committee had decided to hold a cultural festival to bring together people from all faiths on the occasion of Navratri. “A dandiya dance and an inter-cultural food festival were suggested. Simultaneously, the social outreach cell of the parish, which trains differently-abled children every Sunday, also proposed a dandiya dance. The two proposals merged into the holding of the Dandiya Dhamaka – a purely cultural festival, learning the movements of the dandiya and the garba,” he said. Fr Mascarenhas stressed that there was no religious connotation to the event, except a general effort to overcome evil with goodness, disharmony with harmony and collaboration – which is the theme of the Navratri festival – a theme that is also very close to the heart of every Christian, he said.

Fr D’Souza has showed wonderful, inter-religious harmony in action, that too with the cassock. His dance steps were very good. He is far ahead of the times. I thank him for leading from the front—Dolphy D’Souza, former president, Bombay Catholic SabhaHe added that St Peter’s parish believes “the building up of the kingdom of God cannot avoid borrowing the elements of human cultures” – as stated clearly by Pope Paul VI’s 1975 document, ‘Evangelii Nuntiandi’. “About 450 people from different religious faiths, including differently-abled children and their families, came together to celebrate this shared heritage of all Indians. The experience of harmony and fellowship of all the participants was evidence that such cultural celebrations are indeed useful in overcoming stereotyped prejudices and building unity and collaboration among the varied peoples of our land of India,” Fr Mascarenhas said. Bandra resident Anil Joseph, said: “Multitudes of our non-Catholic brethren visit Bandra’s famous Mount Mary’s church feast and fair to celebrate the birth of Mother Mary in September. Similarly, Christmas, which celebrates the birth of Jesus, and its ensuing celebrations, are organised by many commercial outlets in Bandra, and people of all faiths enjoy them. So drawing a parallel, the initiative by the churches’ multi-faith committee and social outreach cell to have a dandiya dance event for people of all faiths to commingle and

enjoy each other’s traditions should be viewed in the same vein.” Dolphy D’Souza, former president, BCS, said, “Fr D’Souza has showed wonderful, inter-religious harmony in action, that too with the cassock. His dance steps were very good. He is far ahead of the times. I thank him for leading from the front.”

Futile defense of Fr. Crispino by Salesian confrere Fr. McEnroe Lopes circulating on social media:Someone in the crowd spoke to Jesus, "Master, tell my brother to share with me the family inheritance." Jesus replied, "My friend, who has appointed me as your judge or your attorney?"Now days it has become a trend to spread messages on social media without knowing the facts and not taking a little trouble to inquire before tarnishing someone's name/reputation. One such example was, according to these rumormongers Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil who was captured in Yemen, was to be crucified and some went to the extent of spreading his crucifixion news on Good Friday day in April 2016. How foolish!!! Now about the video that has become a talking point for many of Fr. Crispino D'Souza, Rector of Don Bosco Matunga dancing during All-Faith dandiya dhamaka. Kindly take note of the following:1. It was a private function of the school exclusively for the students, parents, teachers and domestic staff. There were no other guests present. Therefore let us respect the privacy of the management, staff, students and the parents.2. If Fr. Crispino was doing something wrong, why would he wear his cassock and come? Instead we need to appreciate that amid THAT celebration he had the Courage and Humility to wear cassock and be a *WITNESS* and not wearing may be some fancy sherwani or kurta or anything else. How many of us give witness to Jesus in public?

3. 'The criticism of religion is the beginning of all criticisms'. Some of our own people think they have monopoly over the Catholic Church and personal lives of priests and religious. Such people need to focus on how much good they have done and need to do.4. Those who have misquoted the video of Fr. Crispino dancing, perhaps can take little more trouble (if they are brave) to see Fr. Crispino celebrating the Holy Eucharist for the students, playing with them on the grounds no matter what season of the year it is. Therefore in the video we see even his students comfortable in his presence and wanting to dance with him.

5. Will these rumormongers have a problem when the same school organizes as their annual event, Christmas celebration for all the students? *Lk. 11: 39* - Jesus said, "So then you Pharasees (sic), you clean the outside of the cup and dish but inside yourselves you are full of greed and evil." *Let us not spread hatred but love and love alone will conquer*.

A letter from a scandalized lay Catholic in Mumbai circulating on social media:October 15, 2018Dear Fr. Crispino,You do not know me and hence, you will be surprised to receive this letter. This morning on WhatsApp someone from overseas sent me a video of you dancing the garba (later found out that it was at the DBIS Raas Garba 2018). I do not know what the reaction of people has been. You may have received many comments praising you. I write to tell you how disappointed and sad I was when I saw you do the garba. Let me tell you why.The word “garba” is derived from the Sanskrit “garbha” (womb) and “deep” (a small earthenware lamp). Traditionally, garba is performed during the nine-day Hindu Navratri festival. Either the lamp or an image of the Goddess Durga is placed in middle of concentric rings as an object of veneration. So doing the garba would mean indulging in worship of another God.A Catholic doing the garba would be against the first commandment. You are a priest, a minister of God, that makes the act worse! It could be a social/school event. But does a priest have to do the garba? Being joyful, happy, identifying with cultures, inter-religious dialogue all that is good. We do not want sad and mournful priests. I have seen priests dance at weddings, at parish functions. This is sadly not our culture even if it happens. A dancing priest is one thing but a priest doing the garba, even if it was a social event? I do understand that priests are forced to dance at events much to their embarrassment and the embarrassment of the rest.  But you can see the awkward movement when that happens unless the man loves dancing. This dance is alien to Catholics. You knew all the steps and even when you ran out of steam you picked up and synchronized well.  That gives the impression that it was well rehearsed. Dear Fr. Crispino, I am more than shocked and scandalized. The least you could have done, dear Father, is to remove your cassock. When you wear the cassock and dance around, it gives the impression that the Church permits priests doing the garba and that is intrinsically wrong. I am not your parishioner and so it may not bother you. But you are a senior priest and the Rector of the prestigious Don Bosco School, Matunga. People look up to you to give an example. Today the buzz word in Church circles is new evangelization, new in its “ardor, methods and expression”. Is this part of new evangelization? What was the witness value of your participation in the garba, even if it were a social event? What would lay people, esp. Catholics think when there saw a priest in his cassock do the garba? Would they know it was a social event? Have the priests forgotten their primary identity as Ministers of God?The Church in the recent months has faced a lot of issues, big issues. Priests have been on the receiving end.  I pray for wisdom and grace to be what you are called to be, ministers of God. Disappointedly yours,Name withheldEnclosed: screen shotscc: Rev. Fr. Godfrey D’Souza, Provincial, Salesians of Don Bosco

Fr. Crispino D’Souza’s Salesian confrere Fr. McEnroe Lopes’ response to the aboveSome clarifications for the message from Name withheld 1. There was neither an idol of Durga nor a lamp placed in the middle. 2. Fr. Crispino was not doing garbha but a *Line-dance* which is most popular among all people and does not need any practice or rehearsal.3. The song he is dancing on is a Bollywood movie song and not any devotional / worship song. Hence in no way anyone can bring in the devotional aspect. I suppose people at least know this much.4. Name withheld needs to know what October 16, 2018 *Mumbai Mirror* has quoted from Vatican council II.It is sad to see media knowing our Catholic Church documents better than we Catholics do.

Something our Catholics need to know from Vatican Council II The last of five documents promulgated *Oct. 28, 1965, Nostra Aetate, (NA) the “Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions,”* is the shortest all the Vatican II documents. Nonetheless, it speaks volumes on the Church’s development and shift in perspective regarding other world religions. Initially, when Pope John XXIII requested that this document be formulated, it was conceived as a document dedicated entirely to Judaism. The final draft of Nostra Aetate, however, addressed Judaism only after considering Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam.

Nostra Aetate opens on a positive note, promoting dialogue and collaboration with non-Catholic faith communities and non-Christian faith communities. The starting point of such initiatives ought to be “what human beings have in common and what promotes fellowship” (NA, 1).While first recognizing that “the fullness of religious life” is found in Christ, “who is the way, the truth, and the life” (NA, 2), Nostra Aetate speaks about other world religions in an affirming way, acknowledging that certain aspects of these faith traditions “reflect a ray of that Truth which enlightens all people” (NA, 2). It concludes by affirming that the Church *“rejects nothing of what is true and holy in these religions” (NA, 2)*. Therefore, according to the Church’s way of thinking, *there can never be an excuse or reason for “any discrimination between individual and individual, or people and people” (NA, 5)*. In fact, the document insists, “the Church reproves, as foreign to the mind of Christ, any discrimination against people or any harassment of them on the basis their race, color, condition of life, or religion” (NA, 5).

*Perhaps due to such narrow - mindedness and being loyal to half-truths, in spite of 2000 years of its existence, Christianity in India is still facing persecution and rejection*

Name withheld, where were you when church in Mumbai was facing persecution in recent times? Where were you when our Crosses and statues were vandalised? Where were you when church walls were broken without any considerations for the feelings of the faithful? Where were you when our Catholics kept on fighting for justice and cries fell on deaf ears? Where were you when so many hate messages against Christians were circulated in media? What should be of more concern to you Name withheld?

*Gospel of Matthew 6:21 - For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also*.

Therefore as I said in my previous message, Lk. 11: 39 - Jesus said, "So then you Pharasees (sic), you clean the outside of the cup and dish but inside yourselves you are full of greed and evil."Let us not spread hatred but love and love alone will conquer.

The following is the response of Robert D’Souza to Fr. McEnroe against the above:Dear Fr. McEnroe SDB,Peace! It is a pity that after years of Formation for priesthood, you can come with such stuff with such pathetic defense of your fellow Salesian priest. It’s understandable after all Fr. Crispino belongs to your tribe. Better it would have been if you had chosen to be silent for it only hurts us to read your defense so weak in substance and spirit. How?

Firstly, you begin with quoting scriptures. That’s not Ok. You priests have time and again exhorted us to be extra careful to quote a single verse for it is far better to see the meaning in the wider context of the whole scriptures. You flout your own rule. I can quote a counter scripture too but there will be no end to the argument but only acrimony; better to avoid at all times.

In point 1, you cite privacy. I have no issue with it. But your argument that it was management and in the premises with only students and no other guests comes out ‘foolish’. How a Priest does become private under these circumstances? He is a public figure at all times, representing us not only during the worship but also outside in the world as a personification, ambassador, and example of Christ.

In point 2, do you honestly know what you have written; have you applied your mind? So absurd to state that because he’s worn cassock his participation is right and what humility and courage he’s exhibiting? At the same time you are ‘judging’ and immaturely ‘labeling’ those who wear a traditional Indian attire as fancy! You are also questioning the witnessing capacity and involvement of Christian community in the public life! How did you come to this conclusion? Have you made some study on this topic? Please share as you are duty bound?

In point 3, you twist the word criticism and your intent is quiet clear: The Laity needs to take it lying down whatever the priests and religious does. No my dear, you have got it completely wrong. So sad! We are together Church, the Body and Members of Christ. I will not say more than just remind you that there is something called, ‘constructive-criticism’. Those who love criticize. In fact, our enemies they say are the best mirrors to our character for they are straightforward in their response.

In point 4, how does the students being comfortable and his playing and celebrating Eucharist relate to the topic. Please don’t try to emotionally sway the sentiments of the people. We are not stupid please!

In point 5, the choice of word  ‘rumormongers’ reveals that you have reached a deficit in your defense and yet you choose to continue. It is wisdom in knowing when to stop.

Again this lack of wisdom and knowledge is revealed in your falling back on Scriptures and quoting it selectively. I do not wish to go into the argument with you out of respect for my teachers who have taught me and I chose to keep their instructions.

Yes, my dear, Priests and all of us are humans and we need one another. If photos are to be believed, your statement that ‘he is not dancing in front of any idol’ is a lie. Not only is he dancing, but he’s performing a ritual. I think you should be careful, Fr. McEnroe as to how far you can go to defend a human. It ain’t healthy for you personally as well as for the Community and Mission of Christ. Even your statements as Hindi number, garba steps, dance at catholic weddings does not befit you as one who is a Priest. You can do better than that!

My (Michael Prabhu’s) comments as briefly as possible:These priests are formed in the seminary to believe that all religions are the same, all gods are equal and that all religions lead to god. They can only come out and practise what they have been taught by their professors. Many of these modernist priests are now Bishops, some are Cardinals. The Indian Church is engaged in an interreligious dialogue and an ecumenism of their own making. Not one that the Church has envisaged.I have written/compiled so many hundreds of pages on the above issues that it is futile for me to repeat myself. The interested reader may check out the files listed on p. 15 at the end of the present file. If there is an access problem, contact me (my web site is undergoing reorganization). It is interesting that McEnroe cites a Vatican II Document. He does it selectively and craftily. I have pointed out this trick of theirs (intended to befool laity) WITH EVIDENCE OF WHAT THEY ARE DOING dozens of times in my various articles and reports. If readers want to stop being fooled by the priests of the Indian Church, STUDY MY WEB SITE AND LEARN THE TRUTH ABOUT HOW THE CHURCH IS BEING HINDUIZED FROM THE INSIDE OUT!!!!!!!!!!

THE WILFUL MISINTERPRETATION OF CHURCH DOCUMENTS BY INCULTURATIONIST THEOLOGIANS NOSTRA AETATE #2/ LUMEN GENTIUM #16/EVANGELII NUNTIANDI #53, 80

http://ephesians-511.net/docs/T HE_WILFUL_MISINTERPRETATION_OF_CHURCH_DOCUMENTS_BY_INCULTURATIONIST_THEOLOGIANS .doc

Got this too from a Fr. Crispino-related forward on social media:1) What's wrong in going to Navratri?2) What's wrong in dancing on their songs?3) Isn't so that I just like the dance form?4) I just wanna have fun so I go. Garba is just a dance and anyone is allowed there isn't any religion in it.

Answers:A1: First of all Navratri itself means 9 nights where the 9 goddesses of Hindus are worshipped. The Bible says in Exodus 20:3 "Thou shalt not have any God's before me". This very verse makes it clear why it is wrong to go to Navratri. As by first of all going to Navratri means you're indulging in dancing and worshipping Hindu goddess with the non-believers. And regarding this the Bible states in 2 Corinthians 6:14-15 "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever?"And there won't be any difference left in you & a nonbeliever which could make your brother stumble to sin if he has a weak conscience. Which may lead him to sin.

A2: The songs played in Navratri are just the praises of the Hindu goddesses. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:31 " So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it ALL for the glory of God". No one on earth can ever glorify God by disobeying Him and on the other hand worshipping some other god.

A3: If you like the dance form, then dance for the Lord rather than dancing with the nonbelievers, because by dancing on Navratri, you are encouraging them to sin and you yourself are sinning. Always remember "Your life is the only Bible some people may every read". The Bible stats in Ecclesiastes 3:4 a" time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance". Again, there is a proper time to dance and Navratri is definitely not that proper time. Matthew 6:24 "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other."

You cannot dance to the songs of a pagan god and on the other hand glorify God. It's impossible. Garba is not contaminated. It may surely be just a dance form, but what matters is on what songs and at what time

you do it. For example. If you're dancing on one of the nights on Navratri and a stranger who is a non-believer sees you, he surely will take you as a Hindu. And you'll be considered unequally yoked with the non-believers. Whereas if you're dancing on Christmas, none will ever think you to be a Hindu. That's why there is a proper time of dancing.

A4: God never says, “Thou shalt not have fun, nor shalt thou (not) smile in all thy days.”Having a good time is not a sin, but we should pay attention to the principles God has laid out for godly living when we do engage in leisure activities. First and foremost is Colossians 3:17: “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”When we are relaxing and having fun or when we are seeking entertainment, we should always make sure these activities are pleasing God.If your fun is displeasing God, then I'm sorry to say your fun is pleasing the devil. Many Christian families fail here. They encourage and send their children to garba dance for the demons or play Holi thinking it's harmless not realizing they are invoking God's great blast of anger on them and their children. The scripture says if anyone misleads these little ones, it's better a millstone be hung on their neck and they be cast into the deepest part of the river.

Here’s what Tony Francis, a deacon of the Archdiocese of Bombay had to say:Have to share something important with (you all). There is video doing rounds of a priest playing garba. Request u to all to please not to share that video. There r a few reasons for that.1) He is Fr Crispino, Rector of Don Bosco School, Matunga at DBIS school's Raas Garbha celebrations 2018.2) As mentioned it’s a school function where there is no statue or anything where prayed n then played.3) If v see its not garba steps that the priest is doing. Its normal dance steps.4) Someone might hv purposely taken this video to create controversy n problems, which the priest might not even know about it.5) If possible let's not forward this video as v r passing a wrong msg n adding more to these controversies. This is not to hurt anyone or point out to anyone. I got to know about this from 3-4 places so did a little check on this n sent to you all. ThanksDeacon Tony Francis

I’ve been through a lot of the stuff that is circulating, and reproduced only a fraction of it. Since most of our laity is already largely Hinduised by the priests that are emerging from our seminaries, they are happy and content with what Fr. Crispino has done. On the other hand, there are those like Deacon Tony Francis and some leaders in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal who simply do not want scandalized Catholics to write about the issue and make it widely known. They want the matter all nicely covered up and denied. No fraternal correction, no prophetic spirit, no exposure of lies, treachery and evil. God help us all.

And, as a finale, here’s a nun doing the dandiya dance

UPDATE: The following is the response of Charles Rodrigues to Fr. McEnroe:Dear Rev. McEnroe,We have been following the events on social media and in the newspaper these past few days. We were shocked by the action of Rev Crispino. To say we were scandalized by your clarifications would be an understatement of epic proportions. St Paul said if eating food offered to idols causes scandal, do not eat it. You should not become the source of scandal (cf. 1 Corinthians 8: 1 -11). What is a priest without the people! We are the Church, not just the clergy. You have said your piece. We won’t only pray, pay and obey. It is time you listen to some of us (and I hope people write to you).1. Do school children wear uniforms for parties? (Unless it’s a theme party or they are being dragged straight from school) It is not fitting for the dignity of the priesthood to see clerics dancing in their cassocks. The cassock is your uniform. Please respect it.In your first clarification note that went out you said Rev Crispino was bold to wear his cassock. You said he was a ‘witness’. What happened to this subsequently?  Have you seen this: https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/mumbai/rectors-navratri-fervour-divides-community/article25253049.eceIn the link there is a picture of Rev. Crispino without his cassock. If he was a ‘witness’ why did he not continue wearing his cassock? Because he was attacked? He should have stuck to his conviction. Why did he chicken out?On another note, if there are two pictures of him dancing, could it imply that this does not seem a one-day affair?

2. Your clarification said, "There was neither an idol of Durga nor a lamp placed in the middle." How do you justify the pictures of the idol and the pooja and at which Rev Crispino was present in cassock and performing the pooja?First, you deny there was an idol/lamp. Subsequently, he finds nothing ‘wrong’ in performing the aarti! Rev. Crispino says “For me, what is important is the heart of the law and the reason why it exists.” What law is he talking about?  Would it be alright for Hindu priests and Muslim maulanas to celebrate the Eucharist?

3. You further state that Rev Crispino is doing the line dance and that the song he is dancing on is a Bollywood movie song. Granted. However, it appears that you haven't been to Garba dances. Almost everyone does the line dance on Bollywood numbers.A line dance is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or rows. You say line dance doesn't need practice. Please read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_danceYou say 'The song he is dancing on is a Bollywood movie song and not any devotional / worship song. Hence in no way, anyone can bring in the devotional aspect. I suppose people at least know this much.' I would like to ask what people really know. Have a look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RP9Y2tcT3kAIf Hindus do not know why they do the garba in circles, do you think Catholics know? For heaven sake, the confusion on social media proves that the Catholics don't know their commandments. Whether you like it or not, Rev. Crispin broke the first commandment by doing the pooja.

4. You have quoted the Church document Nostra Aetate. Fantastic. Please do not forget that there is also Redemptoris Missio and Ad Gentes. It appears that you are not aware of these hence, please search on Google, and please do not quote selectively.Does Nostra Aetate say the priest is allowed to do pooja as Rev Crispino did? Does it permit eating prasad? We knew that the devil quoted scripture. It now appears he has learned to quote church documents as well.

5. You are praising the media for knowing church documents better than Catholics. If memory serves us rightly this same reporter attacked the bishops and chancellor of the archdiocese all of whom are men of integrity. Why didn't you speak up? This reporter also reported about the CCTV camera at Mahim Church. Why didn’t you speak up?We didn't see you or hear your voice when the crosses were demolished. Or when the Goregaon Social issue happened. It appears that you are supporting a fellow Salesian without getting your facts right or maliciously. What is in it for you? Do you not fear God?

6. You say "Perhaps due to such narrow-mindedness and being loyal to half-truths, in spite of 2000 years of its existence, Christianity in India is still facing persecution and rejection".Do you call questioning erring priests, persecution? May we gently remind you that Christians were first persecuted under Nero and no, it was not because of narrow-mindedness and being loyal to half-truths. They were persecuted for their faith, their belief. Their response can be found in Acts 4:29. You could perhaps take a leaf from their book. You speak about small minded people. Who is small minded? You (who is only thinking of an erring Salesian) or those who have been scandalized by this act?

7. You quote Matthew 6:21... For where your treasure is your heart will be also. Where is your treasure, Rev. McEnroe? To whom is the International School catering to? What are the fees like? Can Catholics afford the fees? Do the Salesians need to stretch interreligious dialogue?Next time, before you issue clarifications and rush in support of your tribe, please do proper research.Clip of the dance to the Hindu Goddess by Fr Crispino: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDq4WjpDVHwRegards, Mr. Charles Rodrigues
