Class attendance

As per the requirements of the university, you are expected to attend regularly, and to attend full

classes.

Academic Accommodations for students with disabilities

As part of Brock University's commitment to a respectful work and learning environment, the

University will make every reasonable effort to accommodate all members of the university

community with disabilities. If you require academic accommodations related to a documented

disability to participate in this course, you are encouraged to contact Services for Students with

Disabilities in the Student Development Centre (4th floor Schmon Tower, ex. 3240). You are also

encouraged to discuss any accommodations with the instructor well in advance of due dates and

scheduled assessments.

Academic accommodations due to religious obligations.

Brock University acknowledges the pluralistic nature of the undergraduate and graduate

communities such that accommodations will be made for students who, by reason of religious

obligation, must miss an examination, test, assignment deadline, laboratory or other compulsory

academic event. Students requesting academic accommodation on the basis of religious

obligation should make a formal, written request to their instructor(s) for alternative dates and/or

means of satisfying requirements.

Medical Exemption Policy

The University requires that a student be medically examined in Health Services, or by an off-

campus physician prior to an absence due to medical reasons from an exam, lab, test, quiz,

seminar, assignment, etc. Student Health Services will provide medical documentation only if:

Medically warranted (i.e., a simple cold is not medically warranted).

The student presents him/herself to Health Services before the exam.

The student is seen in our office the day of the exam, lab, etc.

If your medical condition requires special consideration for academic activity (e.g., missed

seminars or labs, assignment extensions, or examination/test rescheduling) and is on a day or at a

time when Health Services is not open, then you must go to another medical facility to obtain the

necessary written medical documentation, which is the completion of Brock University's Medical

Certificate.”

The Medical Certificate can be found at

http://www.brocku.ca/health-services/policies/exemption

Class schedule

I reserve the right to make changes to the schedule as may be necessary during the term. I will

keep you posted on any changes that may occur and will post changes on Sakai. You are required

to check your Brock e-mail on a regular basis in case I provide further instructions for impending

classes.

Quizzes: up to 60 Points

At the conclusion of specified chapters students will take a multiple-chapter quiz. Questions may

include multiple choice and short answer. You are responsible for understanding all the

information in the chapters regardless of whether it is discussed in class or not. Furthermore,

exams may also cover issues that are not explicitly included in the textbook but were mentioned

in class.

Makeup quizzes will only be available for students who provide legitimate doctor’s notes or death

notices within 48 hours. The quizzes must be made up within a week of the original quiz date.

Failure to meet these requirements will lead to a grade of zero.

Team Feasibility Study Project: Up to 15 Points (maximum number of members on a team is

3)

Teams will work together to create a feasibility study for a new business venture. Please use the

feasibility report instructions for this assignment. The instructions can be found in Sakai. The

length of the feasibility study should not exceed 15 pages excluding title and reference pages

and appendices. All sources should be properly cited according to APA guidelines. 3 scholarly

sources should be incorporated into the feasibility study. Your team will be creating surveys to

hand out to individuals in your target market.

The team is required to turn in a formal Team Memorandum, January 14, 2014. Include:

The type of business you have selected for your Report and Presentation.

Explain why you chose this type of business.

Identify the students on your team, and the name of your team’s business.

Include a Team Action Plan and preliminary timeline.

Include your Team Contract

Business Plan, commercial & presentation: Up to 25 points

After teams have completed the feasibility study they will create a business plan. Teams will

work together to create a business for a new business venture. Please use the business plan outline

for this assignment. The outline can be found in Sakai. The length of the business plan should not

exceed 15 pages excluding title and reference pages and appendices. All sources should be

properly cited according to APA guidelines.

Each team will create a 1 minute commercial. The video must be the team’s original work. Do

not include videos from other sources. The team will create a 4-slide powerpoint presentation and

will present the business idea to the class. Teams will have 10 minutes in total to present and to

show commercial. Business attire is required. NO JEANS, HOODIES, SHORTS, HATS AND

ETC.

Each member on the team will submit a confidential peer review regarding how members

performed during the project. To protect yourself from future misunderstandings among team

members I would strongly suggest that all team members regularly upload their work to Wiggio.

The team will create a Wiggio account and use this for working on the project. Visit

http://wiggio.com/. All team activities must take place in this forum. When setting up your group

be sure to include me as one of the members so that I can monitor the activities. All team

members must be actively involved in the process of writing the paper and creating the

Powerpoint presentation. Students who are not actively involved in the creation of these items

Page 4: entr2p91 winter syllabus 2014section3

will have their group project grade reduced by 50%. Once a student’s grade has been reduced it

will be his/her responsibility to provide evidence reflecting their contribution. So be sure to

document your activities.

Teams must meet at least one time per week and must provide weekly progress reports to me in

the assignment area in Sakai.
