Rebecca Goldsmith Bryant By Ashleigh Milton FAIRFIELD High School students have added some colour to the walls of Fairfield Nursing Home. The students recently donated 27 of their artworks to the home. It was part of a program to develop ties be- tween the school and the community. Visual arts teacher Rebecca Goldsmith Bry- ant said the works were the result of a com- petition suggested by the nursing home, for the students to create art based on the theme of family. ‘‘The students engaged in a unit of work that focused on family and generated paintings and lino prints,’’ she said. ‘‘They considered the important role of family by bringing in photographs of their own families to generate the artworks.’’ First place was awarded to Eh Wah Tsee, second place to Lorenz Gyle Sanluis and Jude Cabildo placed third. The artworks were handed over during a morning tea hosted by the nursing home. Head teacher Nicole Midroni and visual- arts teachers Camille Tamayao, Sandra Sasso and Rebecca Goldsmith attended, along with the 27 students whose work was submitted. ‘‘The nursing home was thrilled with the results,’’ Mrs Goldsmith Bryant said. ‘‘Ar- tworks have been framed and displayed on the walls. A few parents came along and were thrilled. They’d left family in other countries and saw this as a lovely way of engaging younger children with the older generation. ‘‘The residents were very eager to meet the students and this kind of engagement does not happen very often for both the nursing home residents and the students. It was a very touching morning.’’
