All activities will start the week of January 26th. Sign-up will take place after the holiday break (we are introducing a new online sign-up after the break
with classes payable online. All information about sign-up will be sent out after the break.)

French Homework Center – FR Students will be provided with help and guidance to complete homework assignments and work on more difficult subjects, in a small group setting (up to 5 students). Instructor: LFNO Teachers / Substitutes

Chess - EN It's never too early to play chess, say the world's best players! In each lesson, students will learn new rules and strategy then put them to practice with their adversary. Instructor: Jeffrey Radlauer

Math Games – FR/EN In the Math Games workshop, students will be engage and develop computing skills through fun board games, iPad apps, and real-life situations. As Ms. Jamie says “I learned how to count with dominos!” Instructor: Jamie Bronder

LANGUAGE AND PERFORMANCE ARTS
Drama and Improvisation This workshop will focus on improv games, comedy rules, and teaching children how to listen to each other while having a blast. The students will work together to develop their own play at the end. Julie Mitchell is a New Orleans stand-up comedian and Comedy Show host! Instructor: Julie Mitchell

NGU Spanish Fun - SP The objective of the class will be to engage students in activities that will bring to life classic and modern stories of the Spanish-speaking world. With the aid of music, dance, and in-class theatrical performances students will learn about several Hispanic cultures each week and will, at the same time, be introduced to basic vocabulary and phrases of the Spanish language.

MUSIC
French Choir – FR Choir develops children’s ears, voices, and listening skills. The goal of the Choir will be to perform French music that is related to the curriculum used for daily classes. It will also introduce the students to another aspect of the French culture, starting with songs in unison (one voice), then in canon, in order to achieve harmonization.

Rhythm Program – FR Rhythm forms the basis of music theory, but also of language. All other musical elements are rooted in rhythm. Designed to help kids with French rhythmic pronunciation, the program will include learning: note symbols, note time value, time signature, and counting rhythm beats. Most importantly – we will have fun doing it!

Violin – EN/FR Violin classes this year will be individual and 20 min. long. Children will learn how to start playing the instrument with a Suzuki and Essential Elements certified teacher. Parents signing up must be willing to invest time at home in practicing the instrument, and students must be motivated to

Music Appreciation (Claiborne) – FR You’re never too young to start appreciating music. Children will start to learn about the sounds made by different instruments, rhythm, and singing, while developing memory and ear training. Instructor: Welbie PrinstonAR

Piano Lessons – FR Students will enjoy private, 20-minute piano lessons with a French piano instructor. "Music is 5% talent and 95% hard work, but hard work can also be fun, and that is my mission. That is accomplished by using different ways to motivate children about learning notes, theory, musicality, and improvisation." Students can choose between a French or American piano method to work with. Parents signing up must be willing to invest time at home in practicing the instrument. Instructor: Pascal Valcasara

SCIENCE
Science Discovery – EN Explore, learn & create! Each day we'll use the Scientific Method to discover the answers to questions about nature. Specifically, how humans manipulate it to survive. Instructor: Rachel Barnett

3D Design – FR In the computer lab, students will learn to design different types of parts (mechanical, plastic...), using the 3D design software called SolidWorks. The end goal will be for them to design a magnet and then have it 3D-printed.
The picture is above is an example of a plastic part designed on SolidWorks. The workshop is limited to 5 students. If we have more interest, we may open a second one. Instructor: Ludovic Fromont Grades: 2-4 When: Mondays 4-5PM
Construction Workshop – FR Inspired by last semester’s pre-robotics workshop, this class will focus on building cool things such as a birdhouse or catapult with everyday objects. Students will learn engineering skills, work with age-appropriate tools, and gain the satisfaction of having built a complex object on their own.

T-ball - EN Homerun! Learn the basics of America’s favorite sport by joining our
T-ball team. T-ball is a simpler form of baseball and softball intended as an introduction for children aged 4 to 8 to develop ball-game skills, hand-eye coordination and have fun. Instructor: Jamie Bronder

Rookie Rugby - FR Learn how to play one of France’s favorite sports with a couple of our favorite teachers! Stéphane (2nd grade teacher) and Sophie (Kindergarten TA) are passionate about Rugby and have both played in French leagues. Never mind the stereotypes: rugby is for boys and girls, safe and lots of fun. We will play at Audubon park and walk there as a group after carpool.

Yoga - FR In this 30 min. workshop we will introduce kids to physical poses (asana), and simple mindfulness practices. Through the poses, aspiring yogis will learn basic anatomy, increase their strength and flexibility and learn the value of repeated practice and concentration.

Jazz & Hip-Hop at NODA Studios – EN Proudly originating in New Orleans, Jazz is a style of dance seen in many Broadway shows such as “Chicago” and even “Wicked.” Jazz dance is entertaining to watch, fun to perform, and features a combination of unique moves, intricate footwork, leaps, and turns. Jazz enhances a dancer's coordination, poise, and balance, among
many other things, and has many variations, such as Hip Hop. Grades: K-4 When: Thursdays 4-5PM
Capoeira- EN This class is offered in partnership with NOLA Capoeira (www.nolacapoeira.com). Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art combined with dance, music, acrobatics, and culture. It is a great form of physical fitness as students will learn to do handstands, headstands, cartwheels and back bends but class will also include students learning instruments native to
