A sense of wonder is the essence of inquiry. Nurturing thisnatural sense of wonder in children is key to Science and MathLearning. World of Wonder is designed to develop pupils’natural curiosity and passion for Science and Math throughProject Work activities and in so doing, develop Science processskills, Math problem-solving skills and collaboration skills. Science Plus is aims to develop skills and habits of mindaligned to the desired 21st century competencies. Theemphasis is on a hands-on approach to learning. Thisapproach allows pupils to apply problem-solving skills,develop positive Science attitudes, learn new Sciencecontent and practice their Science literacy. Curriculum Time

Speak Up, Speak Out• P1: Poetry Recitation Programme focusses on helping pupils use reading

readiness and word identification skills to recognise the sounds of words andphrases. When pupils read aloud, poetry is rhythm and music. The sounds andbeats will encourage reluctant readers to enjoy reading.

• P2: Choral Reading Programme aims to build pupils’ fluency and confidence inreading aloud and develop their expressiveness, clarity and articulation.

• P3: Readers’ Theatre Programme focusses on helping pupils read withexpressive voices and gestures.

• P4: Choral Speaking Programme aims to build pupils’ competency in reading andexpressing themselves through the effective use of combining voices to conveymeaning and develop imagination and creativity. As teamwork is encouraged,choral speaking promotes collaboration and resilience.

• P5: Public Speaking Programme aims to train eloquent speakers and equippupils with skills to write a script to persuade audience on a topic. They will learnhow to speak confidently and clearly, keeping the purpose, context and audiencein mind.

• P6: Debate Programme focusses on teaching the debate structure and craftingof arguments to support the motion. Pupils will learn that there are two sides toan issue and think critically. Next, they learn how to express themselvesconfidently and clearly when making their argument.

Math Journaling Math Journaling aims to help pupils deepen their conceptual understanding inMathematics, make sense of their learning and use correct Mathematicallanguage to express their understanding.Through Math Journaling, pupils learn to verify their answers, justify withevidence, think of alternative methods and check for the reasonableness ofanswers. In doing so, they develop essential attitudes and behaviour required fordeeper Mathematics inquiry. Curriculum Time

Write Connection for Primary 1 - 6 aims to equip pupils with creative writing techniques, the ability to identify purpose, audience and context and write different text types.

Power of StoriesAs part of the CCE curriculum, Power of Stories aims to teach valuesthrough stories. Stories can emotionally connect children. It is aninvolvement of the heart and mind. Lessons are conducted once a termto build class culture and, teach and reinforce values. Parents can supportby reading and discussing the stories with their children.This programme will be conducted in P1 Mother Tongue (ChineseLanguage) too. Curriculum Time

Programme for Active Learning (PAL)The programme seeks to balance the acquisition of knowledge with thedevelopment of skills and values. Conducted within curriculum time, PALmodules provide pupils with broad exposure in two areas — Sports andOutdoor Education, and Performing and Visual Arts. It aims to facilitate thewell-rounded development of pupils in the five learning domains (cognitive,moral, social, aesthetics and physical) and help pupils develop socialemotional competencies. Learning for Life Programme: Love Life, Love Dance (Cultural Package)An understanding of the different dance cultures is a means to understanddifferent cultures in Singapore. Pupils learn different dance genres at differentlevels. The programme seeks to promote creativity and innovation as pupils learnto choreograph their dance steps. In addition, the programme hopes to evoke inpupils an appreciation of the richness of our multi-cultural society. Curriculum Time

P1 and P6 Transition ProgrammeStarting primary school is a major milestone for Primary 1 pupils. TheP1 Transition Programme supports pupils by ensuring that they canadjust to and enjoy learning in the new school environment.The P6 Transition programme on the other hand is specificallydesigned for the P6 graduands to prepare them for secondary school.The programme focusses on social-emotional adjustment, educationand career guidance and Values in Action. Growth Mindset

Research has shown that pupils with a growth mindset believe that intelligence andcompetencies are not fixed and they become better in their learning through effectiveeffort and being more resilient when faced with setbacks. The ‘I have a Growth Mindset’programme aims to develop a growth mindset in pupils so that they will be motivated tolearn, build a positive mindset towards learning, become more resilient and see failure asan opportunity to grow and be better in learning.

Growth mindset will be introduced in the Welcome Back to South View Programme at

the beginning of the year. It will be reinforced during the FTGP lessons

throughout the year.

Applied Learning Programme: Values in Action in Project Work is a 6-yearvalues-driven and ICT-enabled programme with the intent of providingpupils with the opportunity to synthesise knowledge from various areas oflearning, and critically and creatively apply it to real life situations. Theemphasis on character development, 21st century competencies acquisitionand Values in Action activities allow pupils to inculcate a strong sense ofresponsibility to their family, community and the nation and understandingtheir roles in contributing to the community and nation. Curriculum Time (P1, P2 & P6) School run – Supplementary Time (P3-P5)

Values In Action in CCA in South View supports pupils’ development associally responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to thecommunity, through the learning and application of values, knowledgeand skills. It also provides opportunities for pupils to serve, relate andwork with people beyond the school context with the focus onempathy for the elderly and people around them.

Heritage-based Lessons The CCE Heritage-based lessons seek to engage pupils in experiential anddiscovery learning to understand the development of our school in the widercontext of our community and country through a historical lens.

In accordance with thematic approach of the Primary Social Studies Syllabusthat exposes our pupils to their community, country and the world as theymove from lower to upper primary, the heritage-based lessons complementtheir key understanding through learning experiences in the differentspecialized heritage spaces (community, school and nation).

Museum-based Learning Museum-based Learning uses Art as a learning tool. It seeks toincrease pupils’ understanding of history and culture through thelearning of Art, raise the awareness of museum etiquette anddevelop pupils’ competency in Art discussions.
