The Arabian Oryx has got two very long straight horns. It is white and very beautiful. The

Arabian Oryx was one of the endangered animals in the world. That was because people

killed them for meat and to sell them for a lot of money. These beautiful animals were

also hunted for sport. By 1972, there were none left in the wild. Luckily, they were saved

from extinction by being bred in a zoo in America. Nowadays, you can see them on the

Jiddat Al Harasees in central Oman. They are protected by rangers. The rangers drive

around the reserve and stop people from stealing or shooting the oryx. We should protect

the oryx because it is part of Oman's natural wildlife.

Listening 2

Last summer, my family and I went to Paris for a holiday. We were about

six people; my parents, my brother and my two sisters. First, we

travelled by plane from Muscat to London. Then, we travelled to Paris by

train from London. It was a fantastic journey. The train was very fast and

it travelled through a tunnel for more than thirty kilometres under the

English Channel. The first thing I did when we got there was to visit the

Eiffel tower. You can't believe how high it is until you are at the top. It

was amazing. The tower is made of steel and iron. I met two French

friend there; George Allan and Tony Donald. They told me that the tower

was designed by Alexander Eiffel more than a hundred years ago. There

are lifts and a big restaurant. There are also telescopes to see Paris from

the tower. It took us from 7 o’clock to 9 o’clock to finish the tour.
