LIS 1002: Electronic Access to Information is a one credit, blended class

with one 8-hour class session and two weeks of online instruction

Program Learning Outcome

The information literate student will recognize an information need, conduct successful searches to fulfill that information need, evaluate the information gathered, and use that information ethically.

Why Videos?Active learning provides options for varying learning styles, requires synthesis of course content, and allows students to more readily see connections between course content and real life implications (Holderied, 2011).

Studies have shown that active instructional research sessions can decrease student anxiety during the research process (Deltor, Booker, Serenko & Julien, 2012).

Videos and other multimedia content have long proven to be more engaging than all-text based tutorials for course content (Scales, Nicol & Johnson, 2014).

Assignment Learning OutcomeThe student will:

Show understanding of course concepts in a well-written script

Use techniques discussed in class to evaluate each resource

Provide a complete and correct citation for any sources used

Use relevant and correctly attributed images

Scalability Instructors can incorporate a video creation project into their courses at little to no cost through the use of free applications and available hardware. Options include:
