Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam( i/bdlklm/; born 15 October 1931)

usually referred to as Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, is an Indianscientistand administrator who

served as the11thPresident of Indiafrom 2002 to 2007. Kalam was born and raised in

Rameswaram,Tamil Nadu, studied physics at theSt. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli, and

aerospace engineeringat theMadras Institute of Technology(MIT),Chennai.

Before his term as President, he worked as an aerospace engineer withDefence Research and

Development Organisation(DRDO) andIndian Space Research Organisation(ISRO).[1]

Kalam is popularly known as theMissile Man of India for his work on the development of

ballistic missileandlaunch vehicletechnology.[2]He played a pivotal organizational,

technical and political role in India'sPokhran-IInuclear tests in 1998, the first since the

original nuclear test by Indiain 1974. Some scientific experts have however called Kalam a

man with no authority over nuclear physics but who just carried on the works ofHomi J.

BhabhaandVikram Sarabhai.[3]

Kalam was elected the President of India in 2002, defeatingLakshmi Sahgaland was

supported by both theIndian National Congressand theBharatiya Janata Party, the majorpolitical parties ofIndia. He is currently a visiting professor atIndian Institute of

Management AhmedabadandIndian Institute of Management Indore, honorary fellow of

Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore[4],Chancellorof theIndian Institute of Space Science

and Technology Thiruvananthapuram, aprofessorof Aerospace Engineering atAnna

University(Chennai), JSS University (Mysore) and an adjunct/visiting faculty at many other

academic and research institutions across India.

Kalam advocated plans to develop India into a developed nation by 2020 in his bookIndia

2020. Books authored by him have received considerable demands inSouth Koreafor the

translated versions.[5]He has received several prestigious awards, including theBharat Ratna,

India's highest civilian honour. Kalam is known for his motivational speeches and interaction

with the student community in India.[6]He launched his mission for the youth of the nation in

2011 called the What Can I Give Movementwith a central theme to defeat corruption in

India.

A. P. J. Abdul Kalam's 79th birthday was recognised as World Students' Day by United

Nations.[89]He has also receivedhonorary doctoratesfrom 40 universities.[90][91]The

Government of India has honoured him with thePadma Bhushanin 1981 and thePadma

Vibhushanin 1990 for his work with ISRO and DRDO and his role as a scientific advisor to

the Government.[92]In 1997, Kalam received India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat

Ratna, for his immense and valuable contribution to the scientific research and modernisationof defence technology in India.[93

A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in aTamil Muslimfamily to

Jainulabdeen, a boat owner and Ashiamma, a housewife, atRameswaram, located in the

Indian state of Tamil Nadu.[7][8][9][10]He came from a poor background and started working at

an early age to supplement his family's income.[11]After completing school, Kalam

distributed newspapers in order to financially contribute to his father's income.[11][12]In his

school years, he had average grades, but was described as a bright and hardworking student

who had a strong desire to learn and spend hours on his studies, especially mathematics.[12]

Saina Nehwal ( pronunciation (helpinfo); born 17 March 1990 in Dhindar,Hisar,Haryana)

is an Indianbadmintonplayer who attained a career best ranking of 2 in December 2010 byBadminton World Federation.[2]She is the first Indian to win a medal in Badminton at the

Olympics.[4]She achieved this feat by winning the Bronze medal at theLondon Olympics

2012on 4 August 2012.[5]She is the first Indian to win theWorld Junior Badminton

Championshipsand was also the first Indian to win a Super Series tournament, by clinching

theIndonesia Openwith a victory over higher-ranked ChineseWang LininJakartaon 21

June 2009. Saina is supported by theOlympic Gold Quest.[6]

Saina won her second career Super Series title by winning theSingapore Opentitle on 20

June 2010. She completed a hat-trick in the same year by winning theIndonesian Openon 27

June 2010. This win resulted in her rise to 3rd ranking and subsequently to No. 2. Later in the

same year she also wonHong Kong Super Serieson 12 December 2010. After experiencing apoor 2011 season, Saina became the first Indian singles player to reach the summit stage of

year-ending Super Series Finals defeating two-time All England champion and former World

No. 1Tine Baunin the semi-finals, a feat she repeated in the quarterfinals in theLondon

Olympics 2012. Though she lost in the semi-finals of London Olympics 2012 toWang

Yihan, she secured the bronze medal againstWang Xin. After Xin won the first game 2118,

Xin had to walk out of the match due to aggravation of her knee injury, thus making Saina

national junior champion and is currently coached by Indonesian badminton legendAtik

Saina Nehwal was born in aJat[8]family atHisarin Haryana and completed first few years of

her schooling fromCampus School. Her Father Harvir Singh originally hails from village

"Dhindar" which falls under Modinagar Tehsil in District Ghaziabad(U.P). Harvir Singh

initially worked inCCS HAUand they then had their residence in the University Campus.[9]

He later shifted to Hyderabad & so Saina spent her growing years inHyderabad, India. Her

foray into the world ofbadmintonwas influenced by her father Dr. Harvir Singh, a scientist

at the Directorate of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad and her mother Usha Nehwal,[1]both of

whom were former badminton champions inHaryana. She is the top ranked player (women)in Indian Badminton history.[10]In 2012, journalist and former NDTV editor T. S. Sudhir

wrote a biography on Saina.[11]

1966)) is an Indian composer, singer-songwriter, music producer, musician, multi-

instrumentalist and philanthropist.[3]Described as the world's most prominent and prolific

film composer byTime,[4]his works are notable for integratingEastern classical musicwithelectronic musicsounds,world musicgenres and traditionalorchestralarrangements. He has
