Games: Pawn StarsWe played Pawn Stars: The Game on Facebook. We learned that bargaining skills and critical thinking skills as it applies to virtual gaming and outsmarting others. In our game, we had to learn when to spend "candy" that was given to you through achievements. We also had to learn about the specific objects we may buy or sell and what a proper offer may be. We had to learn when to please a customer and when to send the customer on his way. The game was very competitive in the sense that we wanted to earn more than we were spending and expand the shop and clientele. There are incentives to move up in levels that further add to the competitiveness of the game play.

Avengers AllianceThe first 15 minutes or so of playing MAA was spent in training or tutorial mode. Here, we learned how to use certain weapons on enemies, as well as purchase power-ups from the in-game store to bring us back to health. We attained material knowledge in learning what each item was used for, and quickly figured out that being on a team against a single enemy is very beneficial. The tacit knowledge was not quite realized, as we were not playing the game in a second-nature manner. However, the progression of gameplay can be classified as tacit knowledge, because we became used to going back and forth between "choosing weapon", "selecting enemy", "choosing weapon", "selecting enemy", etc.

Game 3: Angry BirdsHaving already played a decent amount of Angry Birds in my time, I was only able to build upon the critical thinking I previously gained from such play. Angry Birds teaches you vague lessons in physics about gravity and trajectory, meanwhile strengthening your aptitude for critical thinking and strategizing. You must consider a number of options and approaches for the use of each bird, as each bird has different abilities that serve different purposes in the context of killing pigs. Success in the game is rewarded on a scale of three stars, while failure is mocked by the pigs you fail to defeat in each round.

House: Critical CasesTo play the game we learned of the tools needed to cure a patient in the ICU. The game led the player through a series of steps to cure a specific critical condition case. We had to learn to navigate through the hospital and there were specific games to play in order to find clues. These games including tile matching, image finding and quickly clicking in order to keep the patient from dying. The game included spending money in order to utilize specific tools and to enter into different departments of the hospital. This included the nurse’s station and the pharmacy. Unlocking and “winning” specific challenges were needed to diagnose the patient and continue gathering more information from both the patient, the witness and other testing that needed to be done.

8 Ball PoolIn order to play pool on Facebook, we had to learn how to control the pool stick with the track pad. We also had to learn the object of the game. It was a bit different on Facebook than in real life. There are also instructions for the notifications when we were playing incorrectly.

Farmville• Farmville 2 requires a lot of time, barely got

anything done in 30 minutes of play• Object of the game is to make money by planting

• Some plants are more expensive than others so we tried to buy the cheapest ones and the ones that took the shortest time to grow for harvesting

Gardens of Timen Gardens of Time, there are several key objectives for players to achieve. First, players must unlock various levels where they work to find a variety of objects. Each scene or level gets increasingly harder. You also need to achieve reputation points and coins in order to make a better garden. It seems that it is very important in this game to build a high reputation and collaborate with the game and other users to build your garden and gain these points. It is also very important to unlock the levels in order to proceed through this game. We observed that several aspects of the game reminded us of The Sims. This game teaches users strategy and how to pay attention to small details.

Connective tissueThese games, of course, represent a sort of remediation from the physical to the digital world. Some in a very literal sense (the pool game, for example, is a virtual version of a pool table) and some in looser ways (Avengers Alliance is a turn based battle game– so think of rolling dice, and Angry Birds is a variation on a remediated slingshot). But this represents an attempt to make the physical digital– to erase the need for “the real.”
