A program of writing designed to develop competence in the writing of clear expository prose

and the research paper. Analysis of selected readings. Instruction in use of the Internet andlibrary resources, including databases and print sources.

Course $oal

#he goal of this course is to introduce students to the forms and expectations of college writing.

#hroughout the semester students will strengthen their writing and communication s!ills,specifically in terms of writing for college audiences and developing a broad set of research

s!ills. tudents will also learn how to analy-e a literary text and express opinions about thosetexts in a professional format.

#o bring students to a college3level proficiency in writing formal essays, the research paper, and

use of the library.

compose a formal essay= tudents must complete at least three formal essays but may submit

second and third must be written about literature read for class. Each essay must be

In the first few wee!s of the course, we will visit the library on three separate occasions.A Jibrary AssignmentK accompanies each tour. #hese assignments will reHuire you to

As a precursor to your research paper, you are reHuired to create a bibliography that

features at least three secondary sources. At least one secondary source must be an online

source. At least one secondary source must be a print source. +urther, each source must be annotated. Each annotation should be a minimum of three sentences. #he annotation

should include the sourceLs primary argument and a description of how it informs your

research paper.
