arrived in on Wednesday for the Fairy Tale Ball. They have been working on the unit of Fairy Tales and have been looking forward to living out the experience, in what has become a much-loved annual event at CHPS. There are some great pictures later in this Newsletter.

AFL Experience

Footy fever has certainly hit CHPS today, with the much-anticipated AFL Roadshow giving all students the opportunity to sharpen their footy skills, while having an enormous amount of fun

School Website

If you have visited our school website lately, you will notice that many of the images have been refreshed and the content updated. Thank you to the Publicity teams for their work on this project. It is an important window into our school for prospective parents and a useful resource for current parents too.

Graeme Caudry - Principal

Last Day for Stickers is TOMORROW! If we don’t send them back tomorrow, we’ll miss out on the rewards they can earn! Please return all stickers and sheets (even if incomplete) to the office tomorrow morning, so we can

maximize our earning capacity for more learning resources.

Thanks to all those families who have supported this initiative with their shopping.

Science News

Congratulations to the winners of the Science Challenges this week. They were: Anna from JLS, Talia from JMP, Alex from MPB and Regan from MPB. Laura Kitching - Science

TOMORROW is the Junior School Council’s Fundraiser for the

Make-a-Wish Foundation On the last day of term, students are encouraged to wear

free dress to promote this initiative. Please bring a gold coin donation, which will raise money for Make-a-Wish

Australia.

Telephone: 9725 1206 OSHC 9724 4514

Make-A-Wish Australia was founded in 1985 and now, in their 30th year, they have granted over 8,000 wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Make-A-Wish wishes gives very sick children and teenagers hope for the future, strength to face the challenges of their illness, and joy from their incredible wish experience.

Uniform News LET’S GET RAGTAGD! The uniform shop is excited to announce that we have introduced Ragtagd, a young start-up company that helps parents find lost property at school. Finally a way to get on top of that mound of jumpers and jackets! Here’s how it works: Whenever your Smart Tagged garment reaches lost property, you will receive an automated SMS (text message) notifying you that it’s there, making retrieval quick and easy. In fact, collection is so simple that 90% of families using RagTagd at other schools get their lost property within a day of receiving an SMS. As part of our initial trial, we have a limited amount of tags available at the Uniform Shop that we can hand out. Once these have gone, future windcheaters, bomber jackets and polar fleece jackets will come already fitted with these tags.

PREP UNIFORM TIME! If you have children enrolled in prep next year and would like to make an appointment to try on the uniform, please do so at the office. There's no longer any need to place an order, as stock is ready in the uniform shop for you to purchase straight away. New girls’ leisure pants (straight leg style) $29.00 sizes 4 to adult Small

Girls Bootleg pants on SALE $15.00, HURRY! sizes are limited

Conditional Happiness and what we focus on

The ‘If, then’ phenomenon in our society is making people miserable.

Telephone: 9725 1206 OSHC 9724 4514

It is an unhelpful thinking style that makes your happiness conditional, such as, ‘IF I find my dream job that fulfils me, THEN I will be happy’. In the book ‘Change Your Thinking (3rd ed)’ Sarah Edelman points out 2 major problems with this thinking style;

1. We miss the opportunity to fully enjoy and experience the present moment….postponing our happiness to

some future times means that we miss out on today…there are no second chances to re-live today.

2. If our problems are conditional to solving our problems, we may never be happy as problems will always be

with us….as some are resolved, new ones emerge, that is the nature of things.

‘The challenge is to fix what is fixable, accept what we cannot change and focus on all the many good things that we already have’. Pg 363 ‘We can practise appreciating every positive aspect of our lives no matter how small (the smaller and simpler the better) eg; finishing a task you have been meaning to do; a dinner invitation; a fascinating tv program; affection from a pet; the sunshine beaming through the window; a curious question from a child’. Pg 365 I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to improve their mental health. It is more than a self-help book - it is equal to 2 years of face to face therapy. CHAPS Weekly News DISCO

What a night of fun, great music, super DJ and a lollipop to go home with when signing out your kids! Thanks for everyone that supported this great night. The CHAPS Fundraising Team goal was for our kids to have a fantastic night of music and dance and they sure did. Thank you to all the kind helpers, office team and teachers who donated their time leading up to the event and on the night and parents who were patient with our sign in /sign out list. We couldn’t have it done it without you. Most of all, our kids – you all were amazing and we are super proud of you making this night the successful one it was! The great news we raised just over $3,000 for the night, for our School.

Penny, Allison & Nicole.

CHOCOLATE MONEY Thanks for everyone who has paid their chocolate money this week. We still have some families remaining. Please can you organise this for Friday or at the latest by mid-week at the start of next term. We appreciate there may be reasons for the delay, so please contact the office directly to discuss. CHPS will make calls at the beginning of term for families who are still outstanding.

SAVE THE DATE Colour Run has been booked for November 22nd 2017, in conjunction with JSC. We will have more information to share with all families and children in the 1st week of term when we return from the holidays. It’s going to be great fun for all the kids and will also raise money for Auto Immune Disease.

NEXT MEETING – 7.30pm Come along and join us on October 16th 2017 – It’s a quick, efficient meeting, with a few laughs and some great like-minded people who enjoy taking time out to make our school even better. Why not give it a try and we would love to meet you!!

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week the Middle and Senior students were lucky enough to participate in an incursion through Starlab Victoria. This incursion took place inside a huge blow-up

dome in which images of planets and constellations were projected onto the inside. Nick, who ran the sessions, taught the students about the changing seasons, earth’s rotation around the sun, the constellations, planets and the phases of the moon.
