The Biofabrik White Refinery develops, sales and operates

decentral plants that produce recycling materials, electricity

Olli launched Europe’s first online shop for

groceries in 1999, selling it very successfully in

2009. Afterwards he founded the BIOFABRIK

group to solve critical environmental problems.

experience in environmental startups. At

Jörg adds more than 20 years of sales

record for BIOFABRIK’s field-tested subsidiary

technologies WASTX Oil and WASTX Plastic.

Stefan built up and lead the marketing

department at Ollis previous company over the

course of six years. Since 2014 he is in charge of

the daily operations of the BIOFABRIK group.

Hendrik is a graduated psychologist who

founded and ran a marketing agency while still

in his studies. Since 2014 he is responsible for

the marketing of the BIOFABRIK group.

The WASTX Oil is a stand-alone solution for treating mineral oil

waste. It transforms oil waste into usable recycling fuels. The

WASTX Oil is working in non-stop operation since October 2018

and is now in serial production.

TRACK RECORD:THE WASTX PLASTIC

The WASTX Plastic converts plastic waste into energy. Like all of

our technologies it is characterized by a modular, decentral and

highly scalable design. The technology has successfully passed

the endurance test in Q1/2019 and is now transferred into serial

production.

Reactor units can easily be scaled through series

connection using the same peripheral equipment.

The first module of the WASTX System aims to

recycle as much of the input material as possible to

reduce emergence of new plastic by creating high

quality recycling polymers that can be used as

MODULE 2:PLASTIC TO ENERGY

The WASTX Plastic uses those materials that can’t be

processed to recycling plastic and turns it into

electricity for immediate usage or into oil for time

and location independent usage. If needed, the oil

can be upgraded to DIN fuel in the next module.

The WASTX Oil uses pyrolysis oil from previous steps

or additional input of waste oils to produce DIN fuel

that can be transported, stored and used when

needed. The recycling fuel is CO2 neutral through

reforestation.

SUSTAINABLE AND SCALABLE BUSINESS MODEL

We treat materials that could not be processed so far and

therefore pile up on landfills and in the oceans.

INPUT

The output of our plants are commodity products like recycling

plastic, fuel and energy that are easily sellable on the market.

We build new plants with investors and out of our cash-flow

from existing plants, which originates in the margin between

the cheap input materials and the valuable outcome products.

Although we didn’t promote the oil for the plastic

products from the ground ourselves we feel obliged

to neutralize the CO2 emission caused when using

plastic waste as energy source. That’s why we

neutralize it through massive reforestation.

DECENTRALIZED AND INFINITELY SCALABLE

The optional generator is a generator specially optimized

for the processing of pyrolysis distillates for stand-alone

operation. It is characterized by high robustness, simple

construction and good efficiency. The thermal power can

also be used by means of an optional CHP module.

WASTX Oil extracts valuable products from mineral oil waste. It is

characterised by an extremely compact design and high

efficiency. The technology can be viewed as an orderable series

Processes up to 60 tons of oil waste per month

For the treatment of one litre of mineral oil waste, the plant

requires only about 300 Wh. The product contains about ten

times the amount of energy.

Up to 90 % usable product

Depending on the input substrate, the plant produces up to 90%

tradable product.

DECENTRALIZED AND INFINITELY SCALABLE

Highly efficient reactor

The input material is heated in a few milliseconds. In this way,

impurities are separated and the oil fraction is transferred into

the gas phase with unique efficiency.

Special rectification

The gas phase is separated into heavy and light boilers. This

results in different distillate qualities. Products suitable for

engines are discharged, other fractions repeat the process.

Economical residual material

About 10 % of the raw material leaves the process as a tar-like

residue. This can be used for bitumen production or as a

substitute fuel. No further waste is produced.

WASTX Return is the first container-based, decentralised plant for the

production of recycled plastics that enables the equivalent replacement

of new plastics. The advantages of the process compared to conventional

HIGH THROUGHPUT DESPITE SMALL FLOOR AREA

Processes heavily soiled plastics

The special cleaning system, based on strong friction and

turbulent water flows, even removes adhesive residues and labels

without the addition of chemicals.

Decentralized and easily scalable

The average daily output of a WASTX Return is 500 kg/h HD-PE or

250 kg/h LD-PE. Thanks to the container design, the throughput

can be easily scaled by additional modules.

Despite its compact dimensions, the WASTX Return enables a high throughput and

thus returns large quantities of plastic waste to the material cycle. The plants are

consistently installed in containers and are suitable both for the expansion of

existing recycling plants and for the uncomplicated installation of a complete

With its various pyrolysis technologies, the Biofabrik implements the purification of plastic, oil and other wastes. Due to the composition of the raw materials, however, the distillates produce impurities such as sulphur, chlorine or heavy metals, which make it difficult to market the fuels or use them in engines.

In order to solve this problem, a process has been developed which can perform this task locally, fully automatically, as an optional component or as a stand-alone solution, in line with our technologies. So far, there is no technology that meets these requirements.

A patented process using sodium dispersion made it possible to achieve this goal for the first time. The underlying technology has existed for a long time, but has never been applied to the project objectives.

The purification takes place in a multi-stage, protected process in which the largest number of problem-causing impurities bind to the heated sodium solution and are then discharged in a distillation process based on the WASTX Oil technology and finally purified.

The system is therefore infinitely scalable from one tonne per day in container design and thus the only currently available solution in a wide range of applications.

Multiple processing makes it possible to safely process almost any contaminated fuel or oil.

STATUS OF DEVELOPMENTS

Our exclusive development partners have been successfully using this process for several decades in the treatment of contaminated fuels and oils worldwide. The focus here was on special plants developed to customer specifications. The container-based, inexpensive WASTX Detox has now been jointly developed.

The functionality with pyrolysis oils from tyre, plastic and waste oil treatment has already been successfully proven and confirmed by accredited fuel laboratories (analysis on request).

In the next step, the plant will be scaled to container size in a first version and transferred to series operation.

After the endurance test, it is handed over to the automation and series production partners of the bio factory and officially made available to the market.
