Research Update
• The Affordability Report was launched on December 8, 2013 in Cape Town.
• Report was well received and the conference provided a platform for useful discussions around research methods, key findings and strengthening collaboration among A4AI members and partners.
• Process and timing were challenging but allowed team to identify areas for improvement at all levels.
• Index webpage close to be finalized and will include the complete data set, Index results, structure, etc.

Research Update 2014 Plans • Affordability Index and Report:
– streamline and improve research process and methods (narrower index? Separate secondary data from primary data? Control for timing and sequence of reforms?)
– increase in-house research capacity; – longer timeline for research, analysis, review and writing; – collaboration and advice from member WG and partners.
• Case studies:
– to be published every quarter; – priority on countries of interest for engagement or countries with best practices or
experiences to highlight (Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Mozambique, Cameroon, Brazil, Peru, Indonesia, India, Philippines).
• Briefings, thematic papers:
– start discussion of selected issues with membership (e.g., innovative uses of spectrum, USF, open access policies) and prepare briefings/papers on those topics.

Website Statistics Update
• Since launch: 11,300 unique users, 39,100 page views.
• US, UK, India, France, South Africa, Japan, Canada, Nigeria, Brazil, Sweden the 10 countries sending the most users.
• October (launch) busiest month for web traffic. • Upward trend thereafter:
– November = 1,300 users – December = 1,400 users (concentrated in first 2 weeks)
• Over 500 people have visited the launch page for the Affordability Report.

Country Engagement Update
• 1st. A4AI Ghana Multi-stakeholder Coalition Forum is confirmed for February 11th in Accra. Concept note and draft agenda shared with Minister. Planning for 50 participants. Policy manager currently in Ghana conducting interviews/discussions with key stakeholders.
• Waiting confirmation for Nigeria Forum. Collaborating with Ministry’s team assigned to A4AI. Shared concept note, draft agenda, stakeholder map.
• Still waiting for Uganda and Mozambique to sign MOU. Delays due to internal discussions, holidays and politics.
• Discussions started with Indonesia, India, Peru. AC members and others can support this process. We will reach out soon!
