The research shows that the style of a leader shapes 70% of the climate in their area, and the climate accounts for 30% of the results. Leadership Styles are those behaviors that managers, supervisors, project leaders and executives use to motivate, develop and communicate with those they lead. ENABLE is an in-house leadership development program at Red River College that provides learning and development support to formal leaders.

Please go the Staff Learning and Development Micro Site for additional information and detail http://blogs.rrc.ca/stafflearning/leadership/enable-program/ Leadership Styles – Expanding Your Tool Kit Workshop Description: The foundation of the session comes from joint research conducted by Harvard University and Hay Group on the Six Leadership Styles and the scientific impact of leadership style on climate and results. The research was first published in an article titled Leadership that Gets Results in the Harvard Business Review. The research shows that the style of a leader shapes 70% of the climate in their area, and the climate accounts for 30% of the results. Leadership Styles are those behaviors that managers, supervisors, project leaders and executives use to motivate, develop and communicate with those they lead. The research identified six Leadership Styles that have the biggest impact on the climate within a team. The Leadership Styles – Expanding Your Took Kit session offers content and delivery methods designed to accommodate adult learning styles, using a range of engaging, interactive methods that incorporate a variety of activities, including opportunities for attendees to apply the foundational learning through a simulated experience as well as including a strong self-assessment component for personal development and reflection via the 180 Inventory Leadership Styles.

Leadership Styles Session Objectives:

• Understand leadership from the point of view of those being led • Offer leaders choices in their leadership approaches and next steps for personal

development • An exploration of 6 Leadership Styles, a leadership simulation as well as action

planning • Opportunity to reflect on feedback reports and compare your results to the

College’s group summary report as well as external benchmarks • Includes a post-session follow-up

One of the best-practices in leadership development is the use of a multi-rater feedback tool to increase a leader’s self-awareness of his/her leadership style. As part of the RRC ENABLE Leadership Program, we are using a tool called The 6 Leadership Styles. The tool uses 180 degree feedback, meaning you complete it, and the people you lead complete it. The feedback is used for the participants own personal learning and development activities. The resulting report will be provided to you at the workshop and will give insight into the mix of the 6 styles you see and your team sees. The 6 styles will be covered extensively in the workshop, they are: Directive, Visionary, Affiliative, Participative, Pacesetting, and Coaching. The 180 Degree Feedback tool is administered by a 3rd party (Hay Group) through a confidential and anonymous online process. When you get your launch email, you will complete your self-assessment, and enter your raters (choose your respondents), then Hay Group’s workflow will administer the entire process. Facilitators: Co-facilitated by Red River College certified internal facilitators Registration: To register, please contact Taryn Presley at [email protected]. There is a maximum of 20 participants for this session. A waitlist will be created if necessary.
