•1920s: IQ Movement started

•1985: Dr. Reuven Bar-On, a clinical psychologist and W. L. Payne used the term EQ in their work / studies

•1990, psychologists John Mayer and Peter Salovey identified Emotional Intelligence as separate from intellectual ability. •Peter Salovey, Ph.D., a psychology professor at Yale, was called "Father of Emotional Intelligence

•1995: EQ became popular with the publication of a series of books by Daniel Goleman

THE BUSINESS CASE FOR EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

In the 90s, the US Air force was loosing 35% of recruits by end of their first year because they could not meet required quotas.

The Air force started selecting new recruits based on scores on an emotional intelligence test. After one year the drop- out rate was reduced to 5%, saving $3 M.

Cognitive abilities and emotional capacities emanatefrom different parts of the brain.

A person with a high IQ does not necessarily possess high EQ. But he / she can develop it.

Persons with high EQ does not mean they also have high IQ.
