Band Shot/ Narrative.

Through the video there is a narrative and a band performance. We show both using cross cutting and parallel editing. This is usually done in indie rock/ alternative rock videos but we thought it went well with our video.

These conventions such as the colourful surroundings helped us build up an upbeat atmosphere within the video. The performance is also fast paced so that it works well with the track.

The band performance showed the ability to play instruments and also had bright lively lights to help build up the upbeat atmosphere.

Location. We wanted to use locations that showed a chaotic scene. These pictures are showing the character in the music video spraying graffiti which could be seen as causing chaos which is the theme of the video. Graffiti is usually associated with rap videos but we chose to use it as a location because it fits with the theme of the music video. The character also gets chased after spraying the graffiti which could be seen as giving out a good message that graffiti is bad. It could be seen as stereotypical for a teenager to be causing havoc by graffiti.

We also used a house, park and streets to film the other parts of the narrative and a garden to film the band performance.

Visual Effects.

We edited the footage to get the ghosting effect so that it was in time with the music. When the song reaches the more down tone parts we use visual effects such as ghosting to give it a more dream like effect.

This effect is also used in other music videos to show flashbacks or dreams, but it is conventional in our music video . We used it to help add effect to the character when he had gone out. It was also used in the band performance to give it a more visual effect. Some people may seen this as the character being on drugs.

Split Screen

At times in the video we wanted to show what both sides of the main character were doing, the one going out and the one staying at home. To do this we used a split screen effect so parallel editing and cross cutting did not get boring.

Split screens are mostly conventional in the pop genre. Pop artists would use the split screen to show two sides of their image but we used it to show two sides of the narrative.

We think it was conventional because it helped with our narrative by showing the two different sides of the main character, the one who went out and the one who stayed at home.

Shot Types

We used a variety of shot types in our music video. The close up shots are a convention on music videos. We also used long shots to show the whole band and introduce them.

The images have been taken from different angles because it makes the video look more varied as it has a bigger variety of shots. At different times different band members are lit up, so the focus is on them.

Digipak

We chose an image of icicles here to fit with the theme of loosing feeling. Other artists also use metaphors in their albums.

We used the same profile images as on the magazine advert as it is a good self promotion. There is also edited photos on the digipak which show the other sides of the band members like the mask shows the other side to the main character in the music video.

We came up with a track list which we feel is suitable for the genre, and help build on the theme that we were going for.

We used the same font and style for the band name which is a convention for bands/artists.

We also edited the photos to give them a colder feeling to fit with the theme of the album.

Magazine AdvertWe wanted our magazine advert to reflect both the single and the album.

To make the title of the band more distinctive we have put the word ‘Night’ on it backwards. We feel this helps fit with the theme of our video because it fits with the theme of ridicule.

Putting a review and star rating on the advert is a good promotional method. We put a website on it so it gives more information about the band.

We chose the album title ‘Lost Feeling’ because it could have different connotations to different people, so this could bring a bigger audience to the album.

We used images of the band members that feature in the video on the magazine advert like many other bands and artists do.

We chose the record label ‘Vertigo Records’ because they take other indie/ alternative rock bands such as ‘One Night Only’.
