Sun Cream Usage
With our warmer weather, please can you ensure that
children have a good coating of sun cream on before
they come to school. If they need to re-apply this at
lunchtime they will be given an opportunity before they
go out to lunch. Sun cream can only be used for the
child that it is provided for and children will not be
allowed to share their sun cream in case of allergies. Staff will of
course help younger children to apply this if required.
Congratulations!
A massive well done to Year 6 and Year 2 children who have now completed their SATs. We are very proud of the
way that all of them conducted themselves and gave it their all.
Leavers' Assembly
We will say a fond farewell to our Year 6s at their leavers' assembly on Friday 21st July at 9.30am. All parents are
invited to enjoy the Year 6 leavers' performance, as well as hearing about next year's head boy and girl and other
important announcements.

own business. The children have organised

A Child’s View—Macy in Year 2
Last Thursday my brother, my daddy , my mummy and me did an ice
cream sale on the playground after school to raise money for my
charity. It is called MACS, and it is to help children with eye
conditions like me. In class, we have been doing our Year 2 SATs. It
was a bit scary doing the SATs because I don’t know how well I’ve
done, but I’ve stopped worrying about it now. In English, we have
been learning about the book ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain.’ We are
using the book to help us write our own stories. My favourite thing
about school is playing with my friends. I love playing a game called
D to D, when someone is it and we have to run from one semi circle on
the playground to another, without getting caught. I had a fun half
term. I went on holiday to Gran Canaria. It is quite hot there because
it’s near Africa. I am really looking forward to being in Year 3 in
Mr Kay’s class next year. I am quite nervous because I’m going into
anther class, but I am looking forward to doing harder work and I
really like Mr Kay because he’s fun.
Sports Day
Next Thursday 15th
June is our annual
sports day. It will be
at the school field
from 9.30am until
12pm. Children will
need to come to
school dressed in their PE kits, with t-shirts
the colour of their house team. If they don’t
have the right colour t-shirt, they can wear
white and we will provide them with a coloured
sticker. They will need their school uniform in
a named bag, so they can get changed back
afterwards.
The morning will consist of a carousel of
sporting activities that the children will take
part in in their house teams. Each activity will
contribute towards their house’s overall
score.
When this is finished, children will take part
in different races, including fun races and flat
races.
At the end, the final scores will be announced
and the winning house will be awarded with
the trophy. All parents, friends and family are
invited to come along and cheer on the
children.
Wild Night Out
Oak Class have returned from their
camping trip with Wildside Experience.
The class have been living in tents or
tepees, having food cooked on an open
fire, and living in a field surrounded by
animals.
Children did several walks through the
woods, enjoying the peace and quiet (and
mud), and many of them overcame fears by doing a very dark night
walk where we got to call owls and listen to bats.
The children (and staff) were completely shattered, but all enjoyed
their trip.
Forest School
Forest School provision starting in the Autumn term
From September 2017 we are going to be focusing the spending of our P.E. grant on developing
active lifestyles for our children, focusing on forest schools activities. Dea Annison, who has
worked with both schools through her role in Resource Futures, will be at Kenton on every Monday
and at Kenn on every Tuesday, working with half a class at a time. More details about how the
programme will run will be sent out over the next few months.
We will be asking children to come in waterproofs and wellies, but there are always occasions
when these are forgotten, so we are putting out a plea for any waterproofs or wellies that
have been outgrown to be donated to school.
We will continue to work with Andy Tyrrell and Premier Sport for our clubs, but the whole point of this funding is to
train staff to continue with the high quality sports provision once the funding ends. Andy is moving in to management
within Premier Sport and we wish him well in this. We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to him personally and will have
a celebration with him and the children at the end of the term to mark his time with us.

Children’s University
From September 2017 children in Years 1 – 6 in our federation will be able to take part in
the Children’s University. This recognises the importance of learning in across a range of
extra-curricular activities and links this in with children doing well academically too. On 12th
July Lauren Foster (who was a student teacher at Kenton last term in Cherry Class), a Children’s University
Ambassador from Plymouth University, will be coming in to explain about this to the children. As well as working
towards certificates and a graduation ceremony at Plymouth University, the school will be able to book enrichment
courses for groups of children to attend. This should be a great opportunity for all. Please see
https://www.plymouth.ac.uk/business-partners/partnerships/childrens-university for further details.
Reminder - Nuts in school
Due to severe allergies in our school no
nuts are allowed in school for snack or
packed lunches at any time. This also
includes peanut butter. Thank
you for your support in this.
Cinderella
We are giving advance notice of a whole
school trip to see the pantomime,
Cinderella, at Exeter Corn Exchange on
Tuesday December 12th this year. You
might have been considering seeing this as
a family treat so be warned that your
child will be going with school.
Clubs
This term, the lunchtime clubs will be as follows:
Monday lunchtimes - Mr Baxter's Homework Club
Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes - Lego card club (this is not for trading as
in the past we have had lots of issues with card trading, it is for playing the
games on the back of the cards and comparing collections.)
Thursday lunchtimes - Mrs Lunn's Choir Club
Friday lunchtimes - Mr Kay's KS2 Chess Club
Friday lunchtimes - Mrs Narramore's Art Club

Kenton. It will showcase the talents of numerous local artists, host demonstrations and a full programme of "give it a
go" workshops*. If your child would like to perform, read a poem, play an instrument, etc please let Jane (Sam &
Daisy's mum) or Elli (Evie's mum) know. Everyone is welcome.
Refreshments and children's activities will be available throughout the weekend from 10am - 4pm daily.
With a free cuppa for every Dad on Father's Day!!
Find out more about our event on Facebook: "Art in the Aisles 2017" or email [email protected]
*small charge for workshops, booking advisable.
The monies raised will go to Save the Children who helped 22.1 million children last year. World-class programmes
are run to save children’s lives and challenge world leaders to keep to their promises to give children a brighter
future. In England where more than a quarter of children live in poverty, one of the highest rates in the developed
world, the charity works to ensure that by 2018 23,000 disadvantaged children will
leave school as confident readers through the Born to Read programme. Save the
Children also run Families and Schools Together; Eat, Sleep, Learn, Play!; and Families
Connect programmes across the UK, each aimed at supporting disadvantaged children
here at home.
Other local charities will also raise money at the event.
Also, thank you to all the children who took part in the scarecrow making project for
May Day. Over £50 was raised for Kenton Primary School and approximately 30 Scare-
crows, including Kenton Primary School's Head Boy and Head Girl, decorated the Village on May Day weekend.
