A Message from Rev. Catherine…

But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.” (Matthew 14:27)

Anyone who gets email from me knows that this appears at the end of every message I send. It’s words that I hold close to my own heart and I hope they ‘encourage’ you as well. ‘Encourage’ literally means to take heart!

It’s been a year full of blessings, challenges, joy and grief. Our faith communities have been enriched by the presence of new faces and also diminished by deaths and by those who have chosen to no longer worship with us.

Interim Ministry is challenging on many levels; changing long seated patterns and habits is difficult. Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight or quit smoking knows this. With all the best intentions it’s so easy to fall back into ways that we know are not the healthiest.

Our faith story is one of change and transformation, from Abraham and Sarah who left their home and place and traveled in the wilderness, to the prophets who called God’s people to accountability, to the founder of our faith, Jesus. Jesus’ own life was marked by change and transformation. The life of both our churches is no different, it follows the same pattern. Our history has been marked by change and transformation. Just as individuals and families grow, congregations change and are reformatted in new ways, so are faith communities. In transformation we let go of some things that no longer serve us and are opened to new things which we may not have imagined.

The ministry I offer is supported by your ministry. You shovel snow, cut grass, clean the church, teach Sunday School, offer a listening ear to me, do repairs and maintenance on both church and Miller House, provide coffee, organize finances, sing, make music, collect food, visit shut-ins, work at suppers, yard sales, and many unnamed tasks. They are all key to our communal life and they are essential forms of ministry!

The relationship between congregations and their minister is a relationship like many others: there are high and low points, joys and sorrows, and everything in between. The relationship between us is also unlike any others. All ministers have a responsibility to the wider church, but an Interim Minister has particular responsibilities. These are summed up in the goals which were set by the congregations and the presbytery before my arrival:

1. Understanding our history and dynamics2. Governance 3. Expectations of Ministry Personnel and conflict 4. Living out our faith

They have guided my work over this past three years; and I cannot put them aside, even when it would have been less distressing to do so. I deeply appreciate the support extended to me over this past year, especially by the members of the Transition Team and the Ministry and Personnel Committee. My star word for 2019 is believe. I believe that God is present! I believe that nothing can separate us from the love of God known to us most closely through Jesus Christ! I believe that the Spirit works in ways that we cannot see. I believe that the right person will come to be your minister!

Blessings as we move into the future… Rev. CatherineELMSDALE COOPERATIVE MINISTRY

ELMSDALE COOPRERATIVE MINISTRY MEETINGJoint Needs Assessment Committee Report

October 14th, 2018

The Elmsdale Cooperative Ministry meeting was held on the evening of Sunday, October 14, 2018. The intent of the meeting was to approve the report of the Joint Needs Assessment Committee (JNAC) as well as to elect people for a Joint Search Committee.

The meeting was a joint congregational meeting, and there were members of both congregations (Nine Mile River and Riverview) present. There were 36 people in attendance. List of AttendeesWendy McCorkill Donna AndersonMargaret Hines Bob BriggsReeta Sweeney Mabel WellwoodGary Smiley Murray WellwoodPat Spicer John WagnerJane Briggs Audrey WhiteAllison Gallant Avora BabcockEdna Lattie Adam LattieGary Thompson Jane ParkerEunice Fizzard Sally AllenRaymond Black Emily BlackNorval Mitchell Kris JonesTerry Jones Ferne BartonKathy Lunn Debbie MusgraveBrett Musgrave Joan GallantBetty Allen Shirley WhiteYvonne White Vanessa ChurchillMartha Healy Steven Allen

One of our Halifax Presbytery representatives (and also an advisor throughout the duration of the JNAC process) —Reverend Dr. Ross Bartlett—was present and conducted the meeting. The other Halifax Presbytery representative—Betty Wells—was unable to attend.

At approximately 7:15 pm, Dr. Bartlett opened the meeting by lighting the Christ candle and sharing a prayer. He reminded those present that the intent of the meeting was to receive— and hopefully adopt—the report from the Joint Needs Assessment Committee. He encouraged us all to listen carefully and with respect.

Betty Allen was asked to present the report. Many of those present, had read and reviewed the report prior to the meeting time, and Betty used the projection screen to

give us an overview of the document and some of the main points. She brought our attention to specific items in the document—those included our Core Values, the purpose of the Joint Needs Assessment Committee, our worship and congregational program priority areas, our desired skills and abilities for our ‘new’ minister; as well as the principal areas of responsibilities and a skills’ profile for a potential, and ‘incoming’ candidate. Betty told us that the JNAC report had been approved by both the Nine Mile River Congregational Committee as well as the Riverview Executive. At this point, Dr. Bartlett asked if anyone had any questions about the report.

Donna Anderson questioned the wording that described a “full time” minister, but did not use the word “ordained” in the description. Betty Allen reminded us that our potential candidate may be either an ordained or diaconal minister—and therefore, by not including the word “ordained”, then our pool of potential candidates would be of a wider scope.

Mabel Wellwood congratulated the members of the JNAC on a job well done! She questioned some of the content—noting some grammatical concerns and typos—and requested that edits be made before the document was ‘posted’. Mabel also requested that the wording, describing the role of the Facilities Coordinator (which is a position she currently holds) be changed, to reflect the fact that she does not attend all events that occur at the church, and that some users of our church access the building on their own—without her being physically present.

Ferne Barton questioned why Dorcas’ Place was not included in the section of the report, entitled, Human Resources. Betty indicated that Dorcas’ Place was located in the section entitled, Riverview United Church - Property Resources, but said that she would add it to the Human Resources section, as well.

Dr. Bartlett asked if there were any further questions. There were none.

Dr. Bartlett asked for a motion for the Riverview Executive and the Nine Miler River Congregational Committee to adopt the report of the Joint Needs Assessment Committee—with corrections (those requested above) noted and completed. Donna Anderson moved that the report be adopted and Vanessa Churchill seconded the motion. All present were in favour, and the motion was ‘carried’. Recommendation #1, JNAC

Dr. Bartlett asked for a motion, to request that the Halifax Presbytery declare a vacancy for a full-time ministry position, effective July 1, 2019. Betty Allen made the motion, which was seconded by Michael Rainnie. All were in favour, and the motion was ‘carried’. Recommendation #2, JNAC

Dr. Bartlett requested a motion to ask the Halifax Presbytery to establish a Joint Search Committee and to appoint representatives to it—and he reminded us that potential individuals named to such a Committee, must be members of the United Church of Canada. The motion was made by Betty Allen and Mabel Wellwood seconded it. All were in favour, and the motion was ‘carried’. Recommendation #3, JNAC

At this point, Dr. Bartlett asked if there were any nominations from those in attendance, for the Search Committee. Five individuals were nominated—and each agreed to be a

member of the Search Committee. The individuals nominated were—Betty Allen, Murray Wellwood, Emily Black, Donna Anderson and Yvonne White.

Someone in the audience asked if other people might be eligible to join the Search Committee. Dr. Bartlett assured us that others could be named, but any such individual would need to be approved by their congregation.

Dr. Bartlett suggested that at the Presbytery meeting—coming up this November 2018 that the vacancy would be established, and then posted on the Maritime Conference website, and posted as well, on the National Vacancy Listing. He explained that this will allow potential candidates to see the report and make application for the vacancy. The hope is that the Joint Search Committee would establish an application deadline for a date early in the New Year, so that interviews could take place in sufficient time for a report back to the congregations and a call to be issued by the end of March, 2019. (If the new minister is currently in a congregation, there is a standard, 90-day notice that he/she must give before leaving.)

He reminded us that in a “perfect world”, Reverend Catherine would leave on one day, and our new minister would arrive and begin the next day—if everything runs smoothly!

Dr. Bartlett asked for a motion to discharge—with thanks(!)—the Joint Needs and Assessment Committee members. Michael Rainnie made the motion, and it was seconded by Joan Gallant. Recommendation #4, JNAC

Finally, to verify that our meeting had in fact, taken place, Dr. Bartlett asked for two individuals (one from each congregation) to sign a document, confirming that the meeting had taken place. Donna Anderson (NMR) and Gary Smiley (Riverview) signed the document.

In closing, Dr. Bartlett offered a benediction and adjourned the meeting at 7:44 pm.Submitted by temporary secretary - Joan Gallant (Riverview United Church)

ELMSDALE COOPERATIVE MINISTRYJOINT NEEDS ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE (JNAC)

Chairperson: Betty O’Neill-AllenPresbytery Representatives: Rev. Dr. Ross Bartlett and Betty Wells

Members: Ross Bartlett, Martha Healy, Betty O’Neill-Allen, Michael Rainnie, Betty Wells, Yvonne White

The JNAC was formed in March, 2018. The JNAC Report was compiled by the Joint Needs Assessment Committee of the Elmsdale Cooperative Ministry.

The committee met monthly and worked individually between meetings to complete the report.

It accomplished its responsibilities through research, survey results, consultation and prayer.

The JNAC Report was submitted to the Riverview Executive, Nine Mile River Committee of Governance and the Elmsdale Cooperative Ministry consecutively between the period of September 19th, and October 14th for approval. Upon approval from all, it was sent to the Pastoral Relations team in October. The Joint Needs Assessment Committee was then discharged.

After approval from the Pastoral Relations team, the report was passed onto and received by the Halifax Presbytery in November.

Upon approval by Halifax Presbytery, a call for a full time ministry position was declared for the Elmsdale Cooperative Ministry and a Search Committee was formed.

Respectively submitted,Betty O’Neill-Allen

Lenten worship – Palm Sunday services were moving at Riverview using 8 voices and at Nine Mile River using 2 voices. Choir voices from back of church were effective addition to Good Friday service.

Welcome & Welcome Back service allowed us to watch the work of potter Lynette Peters while Rev. Catherine reflected on Jeremiah 18.

Advent services allowed us to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Silent Night. Thanks to Gary Smiley, David Fizzard and Margaret Logan-Graham for providing music at our three Christmas Eve services.

ELMSDALE COOPERATIVE MINISTRY MINISTRY AND PERSONNEL COMMITTEE

The Ministry and Personnel Committee (M&P) had a full and productive year in 2018.Our year would typically begin with an annual review process, conducted with each of our church’s employees. However, this did not occur at the beginning of 2018—due to time limitations and the fact that M&P did not have current job descriptions in place.

A review of the job description documents that were on file (in the church office) revealed that both documents (for the Office Administrator’s position and for the Music/Choir Director’s position) were several years old; and did not reflect—in certain instances—our current requirements—and as we move into the future. Having up-to-date documents on file, as a point of reference, helps to ensure that annual reviews for each employee, are achieved in a more thorough and respectable manner.

Alfred Wallace worked on creating an updated Music/Choir Director’s job description and Robert Surrette did the same for the Office Administrator’s position. The updated job descriptions were presented to the church’s Executive and both were adopted and signed by Donna Anderson (Chair - Nine Mile River) and Gary Smiley (Chair - Riverview). Both job descriptions are effective as of January 1, 2019. (Kudos to Al and Robert for their diligent and sensitive work in the creation of these documents!)

The M&P Committee spent a great deal of time pondering the implications of a complaint made to Halifax Presbytery in May 2018, about our work and response to events in the Riverview congregation. Until Halifax Presbytery dealt with the matter, our hands were tied. In late December, the Presbytery responded to the complaint and the M&P Committee was found to have acted appropriately with regard to the circumstances and in agreement with the goals of transition.

Early in 2019, Alfred Wallace resigned from the M&P Committee. We will miss his perspectives, his experience and his abilities. We thank him whole-heartedly for his participation with our Committee, and we offer him our best wishes into the future.

In June 2019, we will see the exit of our Interim Minister, Reverend Catherine MacDonald. Her work, both individually and collectively with our Transition Team, has helped our congregations identify and re-visit the attributes we have to celebrate; and to understand better, the challenges that still remain. One of the primary goals of transition, was to become better at “…engaging in honest conversations about how to live out our faith as members of the charge and community.” Reverend Catherine MacDonald has educated us, encouraged us, and stood by us—all the way—as we have worked (and continue to work!) our way through this process. The M&P Committee thanks her—genuinely—for committing herself so completely to the health of our church.

Happy New Year to our church community and to the many people that are connected with it!

Joan Gallant – Chair, Robert Surrette, Alfred Wallace

ELMSDALE COOPERATIVE MINISTRYOUTREACH MINISTRY – PRAYER PALS

Leaders: Pat Spicer (902-883-2401) Avora Babcock (902-883-9598) 39 Prayer Pals

This year (2018) we received prayer requests for 15 people from our communities and beyond and the Prayer Pal members, when phoned, stepped-up to pray for these people and their families.

The Prayer Pal booklet, which is prepared monthly, has quotes, prayers, inspirational positive messages and the names of the Prayer Pals. The people we prayed for have given us positive comments of how the prayers have been beneficial to them. People tell us that our prayers are powerful and that they feel strengthened when we are praying for them.

The booklet is distributed to the members most of whom are from four churches in our area: Riverview United Church, Nine Mile River United Church, St. Mathews Presbyterian Church and Hardwood Land Presbyterian Church as well as other people who asked to join. We are now looking for more people to join the prayer list. No meetings required! When this program was started in the mid-1990s we were working toward 100 members and reached 65 but now as you can see we are down to 39. Please consider joining this worthwhile group.

When someone asks for prayers the leaders contact the members to pray for prayers, such things as illness, in hospital, nursing homes, having operations etc. To have the Prayer Pals pray we must have the consent of the person(s) needing prayer. We pray for people from different sources, such as in our communities (neighbours having difficult times), or other parts of the world (peace keeping personnel and country leaders). If we can’t reach a prayer pal we leave a message, or we will get them the next time prayers are needed.

Thank you to all the Prayer Pals for all their prays in 2018. Keep up the good work!

Don’t forget: “where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them.” – Matthew 18:20

Respectfully submitted The Prayer Pal Leaders

New Business:At the last meeting of the Committee of the Whole Avora Babcock agreed to ask about interest rates at the bank for $25,000 of the money received from the sale of the manse which had been invested but was returned to us when the Elmsdale Pastoral Charge was dissolved. Avora had done this and the interest rate would be less than 1% if only invested for one year. It was moved by Gary Thompson, seconded by Edna Lattie that we investigate further to see if we could get a better rate of interest and report back to the next meeting of the Committee of the Whole. Motion carried.

Scotian WindFields Community Funding: Avora Babcock reported that she had received a call from a member of the committee set up to submit requests on behalf of the community to Scotian WindFields. She was told that they had $45,000 available to help various groups in the community. We would have to submit a list of things we could use the money for and they would decide what they wanted to support at this time. The following list was compiled and will be given to the committee members before their next meeting which will be March 2, 2018.

1. A new sound System.2. Necessary works needed to be done to comply with the Fire Marshall’s report.3. Chair lifts for entrance to main part of church and to the basement.4. Cement steps in front of church need replaced.5. Repairs to front entrance of church.6. Updates to kitchen area.

Worship schedule:Catherine MacDonald stated that she would like to stay at Riverview after church on the first Sunday of each month to meet with the people. She made up a list of six options for service in Nine Mile River on those Sundays. The people present were to choose the ones that best suited their needs.1. Have a later service2. Have Elders do service (Either using their own material or the material Catherine prepared for Riverview.)3. Have someone else come in to do the service4. Combined service5. Worship at home6. Skip worship.

Have the Elders doing the service received the majority of votes so it was moved by Catherine MacDonald, seconded by Gary Thompson that for the 1st Sunday of March, May and June the Elders would do the service at 11:15 am with material she provides or material we provide. Motion carried. The first Sunday in April is Easter Sunday so it was excluded from the motion.

Adjournment: There being no further business, Donna Anderson moved the meeting be adjourned.

NINE MILE RIVER UNITED CHURCH COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE CHAIR’S REPORT

Chairperson – Donna AndersonSecretary – Avora Babcock/Ann Wootton

In 2018, The Committee of the Whole held five meetings which took place on January 28th, March 25th, June 17th, September 30th, and November 25th. These meetings were held in the church basement during our fellowship lunch time. The Annual Congregational Meeting was held during worship on February 25th.

Some highlights of the year were: A new projector was purchased, and a grant received from the United Church of

Canada for $490.00 covered half the cost. The projector and Rev. Catherine’s expertise with PowerPoint made a very positive impact on our worship services.

On April 21st, a Food Safety Course, organized by our congregation, was held at the Nine Mile River Community Hall for church members and members of the surrounding communities. Approximately 30 people attended, and each received a Volunteer Food Safety Training certificate. The facilitator was Debbie Mellish, Food Safety Educator.

On April 29th, Allison Gallant was baptized and became the newest member of our church. It is a delight to have her in our family of faith and to watch her enthusiastically participate in the lighting of the Christ Candle and taking up the offering. Her radiant smile lights up all our hearts.

We received a $10,000 grant from Scotian WindFields Community Funding based on our submitted list of things we could use the money for. So far, some of the money has been used to replace the front steps and hand railings and a new sound system has been purchased. Special thanks to Ronnie Clark for the beautiful job he did replacing the front steps and to Rev. Catherine and Wade Stubbington for overseeing the purchase and installation of our new sound system.

We replaced our oil tank in the fall

Joint Needs Assessment Report was presented by the JNAC Committee and adopted by Nine Mile River Committee of the Whole.

In October we received a lovely letter from the Executive Chair of Riverview, Gary Smiley, expressing gratitude and appreciation for our support during this time of transition. Thank you, Gary, for taking the time to express your appreciation in writing. It was well received by our congregation and a bright highlight of our year. Although we are independent congregations, we will always be connected by our years of shared history, and our love for Christ. As His followers, may we boldly seek new ways to show our love and support one another as we move forward in our connected faith.

Fundraisers carried out for our church during the year were: Country Gospel Concert by Cornerstone Ministries – February St. Patrick’s Tea & Sale – March Roast Beef Supper - April Yard Sale – June Roast Beef Supper - September Christmas Tea & Sale – November Catering to Christmas Dinner for Community Hall members - December Memorial Wreath - December

Committee of the Whole Secretary: At our March 25th meeting, Avora Babcock read a letter of resignation as secretary for the minutes of our church. She asked those present to keep this vacancy in their prayers. At our meeting on June 17th, Ann Wootton accepted future responsibility for this position. On behalf of the Congregation, Rev. Catherine MacDonald thanked Avora for her dedicated years of service as secretary.

Cleaning the Church: Items that had accumulated over the years and no longer of use to the Church were removed. Some were sold in the yard sale held in June. Donna Anderson, Gary Thompson and Yvonne White completed this work; the kitchen cupboards still require attention.

Money from Sale of Manse: A discussion was held about our share of the Manse money which was returned to us after the Shared Ministry was dissolved. It was moved by Edna Lattie, seconded by Vivian Leighton that Avora Babcock talk to someone at the bank about investing $25,000. This amount was transferred to a G.I.C. which is due May 24, 2019. We will decide before then if we want to transfer some of the money back to the general fund.

The past year has brought its usual share of challenges for our congregation in our struggle to keep our church doors open. It has also been a year of personal challenges for many of our members. It has also been a year of blessings. We are blessed and grateful to have Yvonne White who does so much work to support our church. And, we have been blessed to have James and Ann Wootton join our family of faith and show their love and support in so many ways. Thank you, Ann, for taking on the role of secretary. We are grateful for David Fizzard who continues to bless us with his ministry of music and for Murray Wellwood who continues to be a blessing as our treasurer. We are blessed to have a committed family of faith who gather faithfully for worship on Sunday morning. Thanks to all who perform the various activities that enhance our worship. Thanks to Adam Lattie for the way he takes care of all the little maintenance things that pop up. We were blessed financially with a $10,000 grant which enabled us to do things we otherwise could not have afforded. We have been blessed to have Rev. Catherine MacDonald lead us in inspiring worship that encourages us to grow in our faith and commitment to Christ.

We miss seeing Vivian Leighton and Muriel Smith on Sunday mornings. They were faithful members of our church for many years and both have recently moved to Truro. We especially miss hearing Vivian’s singing during worship. Vivian recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

The past year has been a very challenging one for Gary and I and our family. We would like to thank everyone for all their prayers and support during this difficult time. It was very comforting knowing we were blanketed by so many prayers. We give God thanks every day. The issues with Gary’s health are still ongoing but we are not alone in our struggle. There are others in both our congregations who are struggling with health issues. Please continue to keep us all in your prayers and may God bless you all!

We have adopted a governance model in which we don’t meet as separate committees but rather meet as a Committee of the Whole every second month.

During the past year we had regular repairs done to the furnace and replaced the oil tank. We were happy to receive $10,000.00 from the Scotian WindFields Community Funding. From this money we replaced the front step and handrails, upgraded the sound system, and are having the overhang above the front steps replaced.

Fundraising from the past year: St. Patrick’s Tea and Sale; Dime Auction; Yard Sale, 2 Roast Beef Suppers; Christmas Tea and Sale; Memorial Wreath; catering to Christmas Dinner for Community Hall members.

With the exception of a few minor things, most major work has been completed. Thank you to all who have taken part and supported us in all the work and repairs, upgrades and fundraising events. We greatly appreciate all the support.

Respectfully submitted,Yvonne White

Our Minute for mission for 2018 was based on Mark 12:30-31. It reminds us that we should love our neighbor as ourselves. Who are these neighbors that we are supposed to love? People all over the world are our neighbors and if one of them is hurting we need to reach out and help them just as we appreciate help when we need it.

Mission & Service enables ministries that fulfill the great commandment for us. Our part is to support M&S with our money and our prayers.

Some of the projects Mission & Service has helped this year are:- rebuilding schools in the Philippines- support for teachers in Nicaragua- drought in Kenya- help with schools in Haiti- support of theological education and lay leaders.

Mission & Service helps within Canada and in the wider world by supporting education, food, housing, work with indigenous people and much more.

If Mission & Service giving is already a regular part of your life, thank you. If you are not a giver, please join me making Mission & Service a regular part of your life of faith. Loving our neighbors is at the heart of Mission & Service.

RIVERVIEW UNITED CHURCH EXECUTIVE

Members: Minister – Reverend Catherine MacDonaldChairperson – Gary SmileyCommunicator – Janice LewisTreasurer – Lisa WilliamsTrustee – Kim HorneElders – Vanessa Churchill, Christine Rainnie, Al Wallace, Margaret Hines

The Executive meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm for a spiritual grounding session and the third Wednesday for a business meeting.

This has been an interesting, challenging, and productive year for the Executive. We have had the Sanctuary floor resurfaced, set up a new accounting software program, purchased a safe for the administration office, and approved installation of two stained glass windows in the sanctuary. We have held a Community Round Table meeting with some of the community groups to see how we can become more involved with our community. As a result of that meeting we will be hosting a supper, free to the community in 2019. We have received funding for this supper. A successful submission was made to the Hunter Fund to recover some of the costs for repairs to the foundation and walls of the Family room. We have approved the Fund Script gift card fundraiser to be introduced in 2019, approved the Search Committee for a new Minister, and also approved the new job descriptions for our Musical Director and Office Administrator. We are always open to all, for questions, concerns, or involvement and you are always welcome to attend our business meetings. Looking forward to 2019!

The Committee of Stewards meet the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm to discuss current fundraising events and future endeavours. We would like to thank all those wonderful and talented people who have supported our fundraising events this past year through volunteering, baking, cooking, cleaning, calling people and purchasing. Our turkey suppers are now the major fundraisers and have become more popular with each meal and our yard sale still draws many customers. We may be the ones who come up with the fundraiser, but it is you, the congregation, who makes it work. Thanks!! We are always looking for people who want to be part of the Stewards committee and always open to constructive input.

Miller House; as of the end of September, occupation came to an end. In mid-December I/the church was contacted to possibly rent the premises sometime in the new year. Assessment of the premises was conducted in October by the trustees with no damages to report. Locks on both front and back doors were replaced. Electrical power was cut off in September, only to be restored in October. Minor repairs are needed before occupancy.

Repairs, some kitchen drawers need to be reset. Standard maintenance of other doors and windows need to be addressed.

We had a great year in 2018. One if the highlights were our end of the year picnic at Betty Allen’s.

In the fall of 2018, we have switched our curriculum program to Spark Lectionary. This switch was nice as it aligns our lesson with the minister’s children’ message in the service.

I find hope in my fellow teachers Vanessa and Amanda returning for another year. We are using the donations from the children for giving to charity at the end of the year.

One of the events we look forward to is the preparation and performance of our annual Christmas play. It brings me joy and brings hope as we perform annually for the congregation.

I and my fellow teachers, Amanda and Vanessa look forward to guiding our children though another great year in 2019.

In Faith, Mike Rainnie – Sunday School Co-Ordinator.

We support the Angel Tree Caring and Sharing Food Bank on the first Sunday of the month. Please feel free to drop off donations in our Food Bank box at any time.

RIVERVIEW UNITED CHURCH FACILITY REPORT

The facilities at Riverview United Church were used extensively during 2018, by our congregation and the wider community. The Brownies, Sparks and A New Beginning have their weekly meetings in our facility. Dorcas operates four mornings a week. Community meetings, such as the Elmsdale Cemetery Committee and the Elmsdale Beautification Society and our own church meetings and fundraisers keep this facility very busy. The United Church Women uses space for monthly meetings, fundraisers and funeral receptions. The Seniors Group hold their monthly luncheons and meetings in the hall. Rentals for the hall included a birthday party, a baby shower, a Christmas Tea and Sale, weekly Chair Yoga classes and dance classes (Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings). The New York Chorale rented the hall for two fundraisers. The sanctuary was also used by the New York Chorale and the East Hants Chorale for weekly practices. A sizeable donation was received from both of these groups. I want to thank all those who help keep the hall floor clean for the dance classes and open the door and lock up after functions when I am not available.
