ESS-1967HD2™BARITE RECOVERY & DEWATERING CENTRIFUGE

Whether you are working toward maximizing barite recovery or looking to get the most out of your “zero-discharge” closed-loop system, Elgin’s field proven solids control and dewatering centrifuges are a perfect choice. With over

500 centrifuges installed worldwide, the ESS-1967HD2 represents Elgin’s flagship centrifuge.

Power and Performance Elgin’s ESS-1967HD2 is fitted with a NEMA premium, continuous duty, energy-efficient, poly-chain driven, 125 hp main drive and a direct-coupled 40 hp back-drive.

The 125 hp main drive can operate the centrifuge up to a maximum rotational speed of 3,100 rpm, therefore generating more than 2,500 G’s of force. Using an inclined motor mount, motor and belt maintenance is made easy by the adjustment of two jack screws. No additional motor mounts, brackets or tensioning devices are required.

By utilizing a carbon fiber poly-chain, no belt retensioning is required after installation is complete. The carbon fiber tensile cords are length-stable and can withstand shock loads that frequently lead to belt failure. More importantly, Elgin’s carbon fiber poly-chain will not require quarterly replacement.

Another significant advantage relative to the use of poly-chains is the lowered energy consumption. Since the poly-chain operates with a positive tooth/groove engagement, there is no start-up or operational slippage. The combination of the poly-chain, sheave selection and shaft-to-shaft distances, the 125 hp motor delivers more than 125% of the required power to operate the ESS-1967HD2.

The 40 hp back-drive coupled with an 80:1 planetary gearbox generates an industry-leading speed differential, which ultimately translates into a larger performance window. This performance window is what grants the ESS-1967HD2 maximum flexibility when managing the solid/liquid cut-point and the moisture content of discharged solids. Centrifuges with a large gear box, provide a smaller differential range. This is more than acceptable when dealing with wastewater and industrial applications. On the other hand, there are a myriad of challenging drilling fluid conditions in which the specific gravity of the materials experienced can vary greatly. As such, a wide differential range is essential to performance and application flexibility.

Liquid-End Effluent Management Elgin’s ESS-1967HD2 centrifuge uses six specially-designed, stainless steel, epicentric liquid-end discharge ports. Each port can be rotated to the desired setting, therefore, allowing the operator to make efficient changes in pool depth

by simply loosening the set screws. Elgin’s epicentric ports ensure that the centrifuge can achieve a low minimum pond depth and maximum pond depth without spillover. No fasteners need to be removed from the epicentric ports, therefore, eliminating the chance of misplacement or inadvertent damage.

By using six epicentric fluid ports, the ESS-1967HD2 can manage a hydraulic load up to 500 gallons per minute. After discharge from the liquid-end effluent ports, the fluid is routed to a discharge hopper fitted with two 6 inch (152.4 mm) Victaulic™™ connections. These connections are connected to the discharge hopper via a flange connection and can easily be removed to allow alternative fluid collection and discharge methods to be employed.

Solids-End Discharge Management The ESS-1967HD2 utilizes a 360 degree discharge port arrangement that ensures smooth directed discharge of the solids. By using eight, “wide-mouth,” tungsten carbide discharge ports and plows, the ESS-1967HD2 is capable of handling large volumes of erosive solids without damaging the centrifuge. Each solids discharge port maintains an open surface area of 10.6” (6.84 cm2) for a total open surface area close to 85” (546 cm2). This industry leading open surface area allows Elgin’s ESS-1967HD2 the ability to handle large volumes of solids without detrimentally impacting performance.

Rotating Assembly Elgin’s ESS-1967HD2 304 stainless steel rotating assembly is 18.5” (470 mm) in diameter and 67.5” (1,712 mm) in length. By using a length over a diameter ratio of 3.5, KEMTRON achieves an extremely stable centrifuge. During laboratory testing, vibratory analysis measured only 0.19”/second at 2,600 rpm, half the industry standard.

The rotating assembly is given further stability by the use of premium bearings. The rotating assembly bears are capable of handling more than 80,000 pounds (36,300 kgs) and the liquid-end cylindrical floating bearing is capable of handling 37,000 pounds (17,800 kgs). This is more than sufficient to handle the most challenging loading conditions, given that the ESS-1967HD2 rotating assembly weighs less than 5,000 pounds (2,300 kgs), fully loaded.

Both bearings are installed in Miether™™ heavy-duty pillow blocks. Equipped with externally accessible grease ports, daily greasing can be performed without the removal of machine guards.

The same considerations as above were also given to the internal flights. The internal flights are lined with tungsten carbide tiles along their entire length of both the clarification and the tapered section, extending the ESS-1967HD2’s ability to manage erosive solids. The ESS-1967HD2 flights are set at a 5” (12.7 mm) pitch to optimize the required torque relative to the cut point performance. Two threaded inspection ports have been installed within the rotating assembly so that flight wear can be monitored without disassembling the rotating assembly. The ESS-1967HD2 bowl is machined from 304 stainless steel in a “split-bowl” configuration. By using a split-bowl, the solids end, which experiences the greatest level of wear, can be replaced without requiring replacement of the entire rotating assembly.

To protect the upper cover from the radial discharge of solids, a 180 degree radial, protective deflector plate has been installed. This deflector plate is

easily replaced and eliminates the potential of the top cover being eroded by solids discharge. The stainless steel top cover incorporates a counter-balanced, power-assisted lifting mechanism therefore making access safe and ergonomic. By installing heavy-duty spring-loaded hinges, the top-cover can easily be opened by a single operator. By using retractable C-clamps, the top cover can be opened without disassembly the clamps from the centrifuge.

Performance CurvesThe ESS-1967HD2 is a high performance centrifuge able to maintain a consistent G-force and flow rate (gpm) even through varying mud weights. Capable of achieving up to 2,600 G’s of force and 3,100 rpm these units are perfect for offshore or onshore operations.

Whether operation goals are barite recovery, solid/liquid classifying, or chemically enhanced dewatering, Elgin’s ESS-1967HD2 is a proven solution.
