Retarding

To determine retarding performance:Read from gross weight down to thepercent effective grade. (Effective gradeequals actual percent grade minus 1%for each 9 kg/t (20 lb/ton) of rollingresistance). From this weight-effectivegrade point, read horizontally to thecurve with the highest obtainable speedrange, then down to maximum descentspeed the retarder can properly handle.

Gradeability/Speed/Rimpull

To determine gradeability performance:Read from gross weight down to thepercent of total resistance. Totalresistance equals actual percent gradeplus 1% for each 9 kg/t (20 lb/ton) ofrolling resistance. From this weight-resistance point, read horizontally to thecurve with the highest obtainable gear, then down to maximum speed. Usablerimpull will depend upon tractionavailable and weight on drive wheels.
