For 15 years, ELD has supported its development partners worldwide through practical training and consultancy. Our training services are available to development organizations and practit ioners in Asia, Africa and Europe, and globally through Customized Training, Distance Training Programs and publications.

Training Courses are held regularly throughout Asia and West Africa and, from 2016, in Istanbul, Turkey. These are attended by professionals from a range of development organizations and sectors.

Our team includes expert trainers based in three continents who, working together with experienced local co-facilitators, deliver training that gets results.

Our experience spans the globe. Apart from regular courses in South Asia, South East Asia and West Africa, we have delivered training in Nepal, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Lao PDR, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Madagascar, Kenya and the USA.

Apart from the hundreds of organizations who have sent participants on our Training Courses, we have conducted Customized Training for a wide variety of organizations and sectors.

Customized Training courses for organizations can be designed on request. ELD can design and deliver the most effective and appropriate courses

possible, usually delivered in the client's own country, reducing costs and ensuring the whole team benefits.

Our clients are diverse, and represent a broad range of development organizations at all levels. Clients have included UN and multilateral Agencies such as UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, the International Finance Corporation and the Inter-American Development Bank; bilateral development partners including DFID, SNV, SDC and GIZ; international NGOs like Save the Children, Tearfund, Oxfam and World Vision; and a broad spectrum of community-based organizations and small NGOs.

Distance Training Programs allow people who cannot join a regular training to f lexibly follow a tutored version of our most popular programs without interrupting their work schedule.

Our Publications include toolkits for self-study, allowing development

professionals world-wide to benefit from our knowledge. Trainer Editions also support organizations in conducting their own training without the need for external consultants.

To those of you who have worked with us before, welcome back. Please take some time to look around and see how our services have developed to meet your needs.

And, if you are new to ELD, I welcome you and invite you to f ind out more about us by visit ing our web site or joining us on any of our social networks. We look forward to working with you and your team.

Participants are encouraged to share their own energizers and PME tools are use to evaluate the training according to criteria set by the participants themselves.

Training should not be hard work. Of course we expect participants to get involved, but no-one learns when they are tired or bored. We keep you alert and interested with frequent changes of activity energizers.

Nothing is so complex that it cannot be explained simply. We believe in making things easy to understand and follow, and not trying to impress you with our technical knowledge. Our aim is to transfer knowledge and skills to you.

We learn best when what we learn is relevant. Wherever possible, we learn from each other, and practical work should focus around our own experiences.

Participants are the most important people in the room. They bring a wealth of experience and knowledge with them, and our trainers respect and include participants' knowledge and perspectives wherever possible.??

Responsiveness matters. A great training plan is f ine, but we are always ready to divert from it to address participants' needs.

Our approach is a synthesis of participatory and adult learning techniques. All our courses are based on research into the real challenges faced by development staff and organizations, and we constantly improve based on feedback from participants and sponsors. A few of the things we have learned over the years include:

Participants should be involved throughout as much as possible. Expectations sharing on the f irst day allows us to set objectives and a baseline as a group that includes all points of view. Reporting teams review and give feedback each morning on the previous day's work, and participants' daily feedback is shared and responded to, sometimes leading to unplanned sessions on new topics.

Training Courses are scheduled throughout the year in various parts of Asia and Africa, and from 2016 we will be adding Istanbul as a new center of operations serving Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East.

Training is stil l one of the most effective capacity building tools that development organizations have. ELD can help your team develop their skil ls and improve performance through short, focused training courses.

All ELD courses are based on research into the real challenges faced by development staff and organizations. Our training materials are unique and continuously updated as our experience grows. ELD courses:

- Are participatory- Are interactive, task-based and practical- Use the most effective methodologies- Simplify complex topics through clear explanations - Provide frequent opportunities for practice and

personalization

Methods you will experience include:

Presentations - these provide a structure for the course, but all presentations are designed for discussion and sharing experiences, with frequent personalization and examples: participants will also often present back to the plenary.

Hands-on Tasks - these range from short exercises to more extended group work such as problem solving tasks and extended analysis. Participants also may work alone or in teams on extended assignments related to their own working areas, for example, by developing a proposal for an issue they plan to address after the course.

Group Discussion - our approach means we aim to draw on the participants' own experience as much as possible, and believe that, with the right guidance, most everyone can work things out for themselves.

Mind Mapping - an accelerated learning technique which allows people to brainstorm, organize and analyze information visually is integral to all our courses, and allows participants to easily process what is learned. Most participants mention this tool as one of the key things they learned, and many go on to incorporate it into their working approach.

See our web site for our current training schedule.

Training CoursesFROM PLANING TO PERFORMANCE: PROJECT PLANNING, PROPOSAL WRITING AND REPORTING

This course helps participants set evaluation goals, gather and analyze data and plan and write f ield reports, evaluation reports and project proposals in concise, clear language. This training also encourages participants to become 'problem solvers' who can objectively analyze the existing situation and identify the root causes of problems, set appropriate objectives and communicate their proposal to donors clearly and effectively.

NGO leaders, senior staff of INGOs and development agencies, program managers and program off icers and anyone who is involved in strategy planning or project planning will benefit from this f ive-day training.

The f irst three days focus on setting report objectives, data gathering and analysis and writ ing skil ls. The second half of the program looks at the Logical Framework Approach, project planning and drafting and editing proposals.

MEASURING TOGETHER: PARTICIPATORY MONITORING AND EVALUATION

Involving all stakeholders in the Monitoring and Evaluation process improves project effectiveness, makes our M&E more reliable and increases community participation.

This training introduces participants to a variety of approaches in Monitoring and Evaluation. They develop their ability to facil itate PM&E, to involve dif ferent groups, to overcome barriers to participation, and acquire the skil ls to apply a range of participatory tools in M&E.

The main areas covered include:

- The What, Why and How of Participation (Philosophy of Participation)

- Types of Monitoring and Evaluation - Collection and Analysis of Information- Tools for PM&E

These are some of the most frequent courses we run

RESULTS-BASED MANAGEMENT (RBM)

Results-Based Management (RBM) is a broad management strategy aiming at improving management effectiveness and accountability by:

- Defining realistic expected results- Monitoring progress toward results achievement- Integrating lessons learned into management decisions- Reporting on performance

RBM focuses on achievement of expected results: outputs, outcomes and impact throughout the management process. Thus it is a move away from input-based or activity-based management. RBM is intended to improve both accountability and management effectiveness and could be applied at corporate, project / program and country level. RBM is a management approach of many development organizations and also provides guidance to many bilateral donors and implementing agencies.

MANAGING SYSTEMS AND PEOPLE: PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS

This six-day course gives practicing project managers an opportunity to f ine-tune their skil ls. Although Project Management is a huge f ield that can only be truly learned through experience, there are some basic foundations that make the lives of Project Managers easier, and lead to smoother running projects and better performing teams.

Over the six days, facil itators and participants share the 'best of ' what works and explore two key areas that lead to better results:

- Managing Ideas and Information- Managing People and Situations

Managing Ideas and Information

The f irst half of the program looks at project planning - analyzing situations and the environment, developing the project plan and project Monitoring and Evaluation.

Managing People and Situations

The second half of the program equips project managers with the ability to communicate their ideas and direct the common situations they face through the essential people skil ls of:

- Presenting- Managing meetings, negotiation and conflict- Team management and leadership

ELD can design and deliver training courses directly to your organization, team or partners.

We have trained organizations such as UNFPA, Save the Children, World Vision, Oxfam and CRS in such diverse places as Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Rwanda, Cambodia and Madagascar. Our trainers can design and deliver a customized ELD training course almost anywhere.

Hiring ELD allows you to:

- Ensure the training is specifically focused on your organization / team. Agreed objectives and pre-course assessment of participants ensure that the training addresses your unique needs.

- Approach training as a whole-team exercise. Rather than just training individual staff members, this ensures all staff acquire similar skil ls and are on the same wavelength.

Customized Training also offers:

- Affordability - typically the cost of hiring ELD is far lower than sending your staff individually on regular training courses.

- Flexibility - you decide where, when and for how long.- Follow-up - our consultant also advises on how to

maintain the learning / new practices and follows up with you on how the learning is being applied.

Most popular courses include Reporting Skills / Professional Writing, Project Planning / Developing Project Proposals and Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation. A range of other training modules are also available.

All Customized Training programs are developed through discussion and negotiation with clients, and conducted by highly experienced resource persons with extensive development knowledge.

We can also offer refresher workshops as a follow-up to reinforce the skil ls learned, either face-to-face or as coached Distance Learning sessions using email and Skype.

Distance Training Programs (DTP) allow staff who cannot attend a face-to-face training to learn the same skills through tutored self-study. Once enrolled, participants receive the course materials by download and correspond with their tutors by email. Not all people are suited to Distance Training, as it does require a longer-term commitment than face-to-face training. However, many organizations and participants choose Distance Training Programs because of their unique advantages:

- Flexibility - choose when you want to study, and take your work with you into the f ield

- Time - there's no need to take a week away from your off ice or project to attend a training course

- Affordability - a DTP costs much less than attending a training course, and there are no airfares or hotels to budget for

- Personal Feedback - you are working on your own extended assignments and getting feedback on work you alone have produced

Currently, three Distance Training Programs are available:

- Reporting Skills - Project Proposal Writing- Case Study Writing

Each course module has inputs and controlled exercises - tasks which are followed by suggested answers or discussion of the points raised. At the end of each module, participants are required to submit a task for evaluation. Each participant has a dedicated tutor whose role is to give feedback on assignments, as well as to answer course-related questions.

Each hand-in assignment contributes towards the overall grade, and at the end of the program a certif icate is awarded. After three months participants are asked to send a follow-up assignment for feedback. Enrollment is simple: apply via our web site, pay the enrollment fee and we send your training materials to you, after which you can start the course immediately.

The fee covers:

- All training materials- Personal feedback from your tutor for your hand-in assignments (one assignment

per module plus one follow-up)- ELD certif icate on completion

Visit our web site for detailed course descriptions and enrollment.
