My El Paso skateboard history.
Sort of.
![Page 2: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
In the beginning, El Paso really didn’t have much for teens to do.
Disco was in and cool was long
gone!
![Page 3: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
In 1976 I joined the Navy and spent most of my time on the sandy beaches of
San Diego. There, I bought a $40 slalom skateboard.
![Page 4: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
After the Navy, I came back to El Paso. My
brother dissed my new deck, so I went to a shop to buy a new one. It was there I first saw a 12 year
old snot-nosed punk named Jaime Favela.
![Page 5: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
El Paso had Earth Surf,
![Page 6: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
And Desert Surf.
![Page 7: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
This one grom, Jaime, always had to clean Earth Surf. I’d wait till he was
finished cleaning to skate. I hated dirty bowls.
Thanks Dude!
![Page 8: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Now he’s got people cleaning his pool so they
can skate.
Ah, the circle of life.

The first ever air at the Worm.

Geek at the Lips

After the parks were bulldozed, I started BMXing a bit.
![Page 12: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
But I was going daffy
![Page 13: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
One day Jaime wanted to buy an old cruiser bicycle I
had. We decided to get together and skate
downtown and at some pools.
Skating was back on and my future book came from this
day on.

Soon I was employed by Local’s Only. This was our first contest.
Is this dork Angie?
![Page 15: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
I talked the bosses into doing pro demos like the Hell Tour.

Hosoi drew over 1,000 people to Three Fountains. It was insanity.
Like the Beatles but on skateboards.
![Page 17: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Skate City was my baby and came after Local’s Only.

My first partner sold his share to Peter Sakakini. Skate City was now fully owned by El Pasoans.
![Page 19: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Kooky freaks like Gabe Salas worked there.
![Page 20: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
We had killer demos.
![Page 21: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
And sticker tosses.
![Page 22: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
We always had pro’s and bands stopping in like Vision pro John
Grigley and Poison drummer Rikki Rokkit.
![Page 23: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Life was good and El Paso ruled.
Then my wife and I wanted to go to law school. I thought skateboarding was over, but
I’m Baaaccckk!!!
![Page 24: El Paso Slideshow For 2012](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022052400/5596a2c41a28ab564b8b45e8/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
Thanks for coming tonight. Please remember, Dog Tacos is about all of you. Each and
every one! You are what makes El Paso special.
