Well since the last news letter, a lot has happened behind the scenes and I will give you a rundown on what has transpired.

First up we have been preparing three separate events for the fifty year celebrations of ththe first production EH rolling off the assembly line, which was on the 26 of August

1963 and ceasing in late February 1965.

After fifty years, who would have ever thought that so many of these much loved cars are still on the road, in one form or another?

I don't know how many drivable EH cars are still on the roads throughout Australia, but over in the West here we will be endeavouring to locate as many as we can by

rddisplaying them all on the South Perth Foreshore on Sunday the 3 of November 2013 (see the flyer on back page). Invitations have been made and are on the web page please, download and distribute to any EJ /EH that you may see in your travels, so keep them close at hand.

I'm pleased to inform you that City Motors Holden has come onboard as our major sponsor along with Shannons Insurance. City Motors will have a display that includes the latest model Holden. Their sponsorship includes the fencing around the display so we can control the flow of spectators

They will also donate a good spotters fee of two hundred dollars for any new car sale that comes about directly by our event and they will attend to this in their own way.

Shannons have kindy donated n $800 travel voucher as the door prize. They also have two 1/18 scale EH Holden model cars up for grabs as well, which they will be running with on the day, so all you have to do to win one of these prizes is to and ask for a quote on insurance and you go in their draw, so what's easier than that and there is no obligation.

thThe club also plans to sell merchandise specific to the 50 celebrations, these include, t-shirts, stubby holders, calendars and grill badges.

Shannons have invited us as a club to hold all of our future meetings at their premises at No 152 Burswood Drive, Burswood. They have a large conference room at the back of their building which other clubs use as well and all amenities have been made available to us.

In future, all of our club meetings will be held at their office where we can use their facilities at any time except work hours of course for, we just have to book the time beforehand.

I have expressed thanks on behalf of the club to Shannons for their generous sponsorship and making their facilities available, so if you need insurance for your prized car, well you know where to go.

We are working on three tier level of sponsorship bronze $250, Silver $550 and Gold $1,000 upwards which will entitle them for 12, 18, 24 months of advertising.

The club needs your help, if you know someone that may be approached but are not sure about asking, give me a call and I will arrange someone to contact them on your behalf.

Hello fellow club members…

Since the last newsletter we have had only a few events, the most important was the Annual ndGeneral Meeting on 2 June at the Veteran Car Club Room, at Hale Rd in Wattle Grove. At

this meeting 20 members attended (which represents approximately 1/3 of the current financial members). All Committee roles were up for nominations, of which I was nominated for the role as Secretary. I have accepted this role so this will be my first official article as the new Secretary of the club.

At the AGM the issue of the clubs' outdated constitution was raised and the question of how the full review that was voted on at a previous AGM was progressing. Our new Treasurer, Wendy Oliver has stepped up and taken this challenging (and seemingly never ending) task to hand and gone through to dot the I's and cross the T's so to speak.

A discussion on the new 404 reporting requirements and the need for a dedicated registrar and inspection committee was discussed. The members we told that there is no longer a requirement for a regular inspection and that the registrar position will be absorbed by the secretary.

I trust that by the time you are reading this article, the final draft of the constitution has also reached you for your review and any comments. A fair amount of time has been put into this and your committee has reviewed and amended several times.

You will notice that there are a few changes to some of the committee's roles within the club and additional membership types have been created.

The first social event that was noted on the calendar was the weekend retreat for members (spouses and kids were included as well) down at Forest lodge and Resort in Pemberton on

rd ththe 3 and 4 August. For those who were able to attend, everyone seemed to have had a great time. Some members arrived on Friday whilst the rest of us arrived midday Saturday. We (18 of us) all met up at Silkwood winery for some wine tasting and lunch. Thanks to John and Vera for shouting the wines for the table. Those of us that departed on Saturday morning had a bit of catching up to do!

After a very nice lunch, it was time to head off to the resort for more drinks and dinner. Not only was a great meal presented by the staff, but some fun and games were also part of the night. Some did better than others; perhaps we should have had the quiz before the drinks!

And the “dummy spitting” competition was a huge success and laughs were had all round. I'm not saying who the winners are? They know next year they might have to defend their title!

thThe rest of the year is going to be a real busy one with events such as the Official 50 Birthday thof the EH on the 26 of August, but as we are WA we will hold our Birthday Bash on

November 3rd. Ray has touched on this in his report alright. I will however reinforce that we need financial sponsorship for the event; if you are in a position to assist then we will be happy to talk to you. You can contact either Ray or myself.

Sponsorship can be in the form of products or your time on the day as a volunteer, so we can make this event one to remember for many years.

If you have an EH or EJ, even if it is not a runner or completed project we would love to see how you are progressing, and if the car itself is not able to be there, take some pictures and pop them up on the photo board or email them to me and we can display them on the day.

Another fund raiser will be later in the month of November at Battery World in Maddington on Albany Hwy for the club BBQ to be fired up again, so if you are a southern suburbs member we would love to have you at this one.

Well I hope to see all you other club members at the coming events soon, and if I haven't spoken to you yet come and have a chat over a snag or two…

ASR 2013 – Mt Gambier S.A. Larry & Wendy's Trek across country

Day 1 – 23/03/2013 SaturdayrdWe left Perth at 8.06am on Saturday 23 March on our trek across the country to

the EH Car Clubs ASR being held in Mt Gambier S.A., driving the EH Panel-van, the Odometer reading 11629.4 “miles”.

We met up with John Nolan at Greenmount and then continued on, John was travelling in his Commodore towing the then unveiled EH Station Wagon that he and Vera had just had fully restored.

We allowed ourselves a pit stop every 2 hours or so and our first one was at Kellerberrin where we first filled up, then stopped at Merredin for lunch. Keeping to the regime we stopped at Southern Cross, then at Coolgardie where we filled up again.

First hic-cup of the trek happened, after leaving Coolgardie the Panel-van overheated, just our luck! We pulled over, lifted the hood and waited for the temperature to go down, filled the radiator up and limped to Norseman, arriving about 6.30pm. We did 533 miles on the first day, 12162.4 on the Odometer.

Day 2 – 24/03/2013 SundayLeft Norseman at 6.50am: an early start for me! Our first stop was Balladonia where we filled up then I was actually allowed to drive, well of course I got the boring bit, the 90 mile straight (146.5km's). Had to keep an eye on the temperature as our radiator needed a drink along the way too (later finding out it had a couple of small holes in it). Second stop was at Cocklebiddy where we had lunch, don't blink, you may miss it!

Larry took over the driving, hated having his knees up under his chin whilst I was driving, and 10km's out of Madura we took a hit! A bloody big rock thrown by a big truck hit our windscreen, lovely just bloody lovely! Thanks goodness it was a laminated one, having a big ring just above the right eye area, not good at all!

We filled up at Mundrabilla both fuel and water, arrived at Eucla where we stayed for the night. We got some really beautiful sunset photos too.

Meals we had were huge! We did 527.7 miles on the second day, 12690.1 on the Odometer.

Day 3 – 25/03/2013 MondayHad to keep on having the early starts, left Eucla at 6.35am filled up at Border Village and on the road again. 20km's from Nullarbor the oil pressure decided to play up so of course we had to pull over and check it out. The coincidence of it all is that it was 10am QLD time, the time of my cousin's funeral, we looked at one another and we just knew.

John helped out with his bush knowledge and used his packing tape to fix the problem – to high brow for me.

Again we limped into Nullarbor, filled up the fuel, water and oil, could you have a better start to a trip, I don't think so!

So glad to have John with us as he rang ahead and organised for a friend of a friend etc to do some work on the Panel-van once we arrived in Adelaide.

We arrived in Penong where we had our next break and lunch. We had kind of planned to stop overnight at Ceduna however there was still lot's of daylight left so filled up and travelled on to Wudinna. Really the best place we stayed at on the trip, a cabin at the back of the Hotel, and included breakfast.

John towing the Station Wagon was having a few problems with the plastic wrap so had to do some repairs. We used up all of the plastic that he had and hoped for the best. Must mention Vera here as she organised our overnight bookings, was wonderful and was greatly appreciated.

After all the events that had happened we have now named our panel-van “Merle” after my cousin, she stayed with us for the rest of our trip.

We did 523.6 miles on the third day, 13,213.7 on the Odometer.

Day 4 – 26/03/2013 TuesdayUp and early once again however we had forgotten that we were travelling east and that the sun wasn't getting up as early as we were and with the time differences....... We ended up waiting around for an hour or so until 7.30am as there was no way we were travelling in the dark, too much road-kill for our beauties.

We arrived in Port Augusta at 10.45am, filled up and then the big moment, we unveiled the Station Wagon, didn't want to however the wrapping was coming off big time, it lasted rather well but was just too far gone to repair/fix, also we had no more plastic to do so.

Next pit stop was Port Wakefield where we filled up and had some lunch. The journey was almost over however it was really the beginning. We arrived in “Adelaide” where John led us to his mates, mate who was waiting for us to have a look at the Panel-van and the ensuing problems we had. We dropped it off, grabbed what gear we could out of the back, stuffed it and ourselves into the Commodore and went and booked into the Motel at Enfield where we were booked in to stay for a couple of nights.

After booking in we went for a walk, had a look around and found a pub for dinner and had an early night.

We did 413 miles on the fourth day, 13626.7 on the Odometer.

Page 9: E.H. HOLDEN CAR CLUB OF W. A.ehcarclubwa.org.au/pdf/newsletter_13sep.pdft-shirts, stubby holders, calendars and grill badges. Shannons have invited us as a club to hold all of our

Day 5 – 27/03/2013 WednesdayA day off! Time to do those wonderful chores your know washing clothes etc, yum just what I needed to do. Larry went off with John to pick up our Sedan and their Panel-van that were put on the train. It was kind of starting to happen, Vera, “Johno” and Jamie arrived, then Simon and Tina and finally Mark arrived in time for dinner at the Empire Hotel. We collected our now mended Panel-van, so happy now we can get on with it! Only put a few miles on it here 9.7 miles, 13636.4 on the Odometer.

Day 6 – 28/03/2013 ThursdayLeft Enfield in tandem, what a beautiful sight all the EH's travelling together, made the club look great.

Simon took this one, got out of his Ute, took the photo and still had to wait for the lights to change!

Our first break was at Tailem Bend where we filled up, at this time I was driving the Panel-van and Larry the Sedan, so we were travelling by ourselves. We then stopped at Keith for lunch, parked the vehicles up in the street, got lots of comments.

We reached Mt Gambier HQ, registered then went and booked into the Caravan Park where we stayed for the duration. Guess who our neighbours were: Neil and Sue!

Another 331.6 miles added today, 13968.0 on the Odometer.

End of part One. Fun times in freezing Mt Gambier continued in next newsletter

The Kings Park Festival, held at their Botanic Gardens is now on and continues for the whole of the month of September.

thOur club will be involved only on the last weekend of the month Sunday the 29 of September 2013 so we need a good turn up of cars at the parking area where one of the Ute bodies will be located in the garden near the Boab Tree.

All our cars are to be in place by 10.00 hrs and bring your own food as we cannot ignite the Barbie because of strict fire regulations in the Park, food stalls will be there to cater for all.

Each of the ute's bodies have been completed and filled with good black soil and odd farmland type junk sticking out everywhere. The annual wildflowers are growing strongly which are already blooming (see the latest photo on their web page and follow our link) and covering the two utes and looking just awesome.

This should be a top day and great viewing for us and the public so don't miss it.

An email will be sent out as a reminder of the event about a week or so prior with a copy of the location map and a meeting place before hand. Parliament House has a good parking area which should be empty because they never work on a weekend, so see you all there.
