Grading in Europa : Vb 1: België
• Cijfers op een schaal van 0 tot 20• Een student is geslaagd vanaf 10/20• Cijfers boven 16 worden vrij zelden gegeven• In Franstalig België wordt nog met een vereist
gemiddelde van 12/20 gewerkt. Daardoor geeft men daar makkelijker een cijfer lager dan 10.

Grading in Europa: Vb 2: Nederland• Schaal van 1 tot 10.• Voldoende is 5.5 (afgerond tot 6).• Ook hier wordt de hele schaal niet benut• Sommige instellingen werken niet met halve punten

Grading in Europa : Vb 3: Italië
• Cijfers toegekend op een schaal van 0 tot 30.• De ondergrens is 18/30• Het hoogste cijfer is 30 maar er bestaat ook « 30 lode »
(« 30+ », « 30 cum laude ») dat aan een aanzienlijk aantal studenten wordt toegekend
• Verdere gegevens: de student kan verschillende keren het examen doen om zijn/haar cijfer te verbeteren.

• De meeste instellingen gebruiken een schaal van 0-100• De ondergrens is
• 40 (1st cycle)• 50 (2nd cycle)
• ‘Grading bands’ voor de 1ste cyclus zijn• 70 en meer (1st class)• 60 en meer (Upper 2nd class)• 50 en meer (Lower 2nd class)• 40 en meer (3rd class)
• De frequenties binnen die ‘bands’ verschillen van studiegebied tot studiegebied.
• Herexamens zijn onderhevig aan beperkingen

Conversiesystemen
• ECTS transfer op zich• Alleen de credits worden overgenomen als verworven, zonder conversie van
cijfers• Bilaterale conversietabellen
• Elke (programma)verantwoordelijke stelt een tabel op met een equivalentietabel tussen de eigen cijfers en die van de partner(s). Soms wordt dit facultair of centraal gedaan.
• De ECTS grading scale (tot 2009)• Buitenlandse cijfers worden vertaald naar de A B C D E schaal. Soms worden ze
terugvertaald in de thuisinstelling. Dit gebeurt vaak echter niet op basis van grade distribution
• De ECTS Grading table voorgesteld in de Users’ Guide 2009• Conversie via het vergelijken van distributielijsten van cijfers.

Het EGRACONS PROJECT
Doelstellingen• De verschillende ‘grading practices’ en ‘cultures’ gedetailleerd in kaart
brengen. Een grading table weerspiegelt de grading cultuur in een referentiegroep
• De definitie van te gebruiken aggregatieniveaus (in ECTS Users’ Guide: “degree programme or group of homogeneous programmes”) en codes voor disciplines (ISCED subject area codes?) bepalen
• De conversie en intrepretatie van cijfers in Europa harmoniseren in het belang van zowel studenten als instellingen
• De conversie faciliteren door ze te automatiseren (het ontwikkelen van een gemeenschappelijke Europese webgebaseerde conversietool en database)

Methodologie• Bepaal de statistische distributie van elk toegekend cijfer op de
schaal (binnen (een deel van het) aggregatieniveau, b.v. opleiding) in de gastinstelling
• Bepaal het percentiel van het specifieke cijfer gegeven in het buitenland t.o.v. de referentiegroep in het buitenland
• Converteer het cijfer naar een lokaal cijfer door het overeenstemmende percentage in de thuisreferentiegroep te bepalen en het te verbinden met het overeenstemmende lokale cijfer
• Hoe groter het aantal cijfers in een schaal, hoe makkelijker het te converteren is (cf. Zweedse situatie)

• Kan verschillen van land per land • Theoretisch best per opleidingsonderdeel (maar onhaalbaar)• Alternatieven: opleiding, clusters van opleidingen (ISCED), faculteit,
instelling• ECTS Users’ guide spreekt van: ‘a single programme or a group of
homogeneous programmes – from which a consistent grading pattern could be derived’ (grading culture)

Eerste resultaten
• Pilot survey: een 35-tal instellingen geconsulteerd• Vrij grote uniformiteit per land, maar toch één derde geen
nationaal systeem • Heel weinig relative grading (UK), maar vraag ook niet goed
begrepen• Oude ECTS Grading scale slechts in 50% van de gevallen in gebruik
en in 50% daarvan op basis van distributielijsten• Ongeveer 25% converteert helemaal niet• Slechts weinig instellingsbrede conversieregels (6 instellingen)• Grote meerderheid is zich bewust van grading tables en heeft de
