It all began on July 25th -- people from all around the world -- 6500

athletes! All united to represent their countries in the Special Olym-pics World Games!!! The ceremony was amazing with guests ranging from Stevie Wonder to MICHELLE OBAMA!!! The evening ended with a great performance by Avril Lavigne and fireworks! Through-out the following week we enjoyed Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Bocce, Bowling, Cycling, Equestrian, Football(Soccer), Golf, Gymnastics,

Rhythmic Gymnastics, Half Mara-thon, Handball, Judo, Kayaking, Open Water Swim, Powerlifting, Roller Skating, Sailing, Softball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Triathlon, and, Volleyball. A lot, right?! It was so exciting we didn’t totally know what to do with ourselves! So, first we went to cheer on the basketball teams. First match was the Cayman Islands vs. the Dominican Republic. It was a tight game but the Do-minican Republic pulled through. When the game was over the teams shook hands and came around to the crowd! Next was Aquatics. From there we went to the convention tents where there was great enter-tainment -- cool food trucks and lots of opportunities to interact with all the sponsors of the world games.

At about 4 o’clock there was a big buzz around the crowd...everyone began to line up for a one-on-one meet and greet/photo op with the one and only... Michael Phelps! So of course, the day ends on a great note. The next day was beach volleyball. We watched a tough match between Costa Rica and Finland and then Costa Rica and Cuba. Afterward we waited from our spot on the beach for the Triathlon to come through. Once the race was over, we hurried down to sailing where Allister Peek from SO Australia took gold with a score of 28! After a great day we headed back full of joy but slightly bummed because we simply couldn’t see everything we wanted to see. The best news? I made a serious dent in my bucket list.
