Classroom Management Plan
For a classroom to run effectively, classroom organization must be in place. Organize the
classroom in a way that prevents disciplinary issues, observing students improvement,
organizing the surroundings to optimize efficiency, arranging processes and resources as well as
scheduling a syllabus. (Lemlech, 2006).
It is very important to talk with the student during the first week of class to discuss
classroom procedures. The students will learn how they should stand when we are about to leave
the classroom, such as a line where the students are in alphabetical order by name. Students will
also learn that if they need any kind of help, all they have to do is raise their hand to get the
teacher to notice their hand so they can get help immediately. There will be learning centers
where the students can spend any free time to learn more when not teaching. The students will be
taught how to use their free time effectively.
Seating positions are a very important part of the learning process. Handicapped children
will be placed in the front of the room to maximize learning. Each student will be placed
according to their needs. When placing students in seating arrangements, teacher must also place
problem students away from each other to reduce disturbances.
The classroom seating should have the students desks in a u shape facing the board. By
the students facing the board in the u shape, students can concentrate on the lesson. If the
students need help, the teacher can easily access each desk without walking through a maze of
desks. The students should not be able to see the door where they are sitting as it seems to get
them off task because of people walking by. Also students have an easy entrance and exit to their
desks in case of school evacuation because of fire, or tornado.

To make sure that students are learning, be sure to make each lesson as fun as possible to
keep the student engaged in the lesson. Keeping students away from distractions is important
also because it keeps the students on topic. Praising students is a must, praise lets the students
know that they are appreciated in everything they accomplish. One way to praise students
progress is to make a bulletin board for excellent students, or star students in the class because of
their grades. Struggling students will strive to be better so they can be praised too on the
important praise bulletin board.
There is not one set in stone method to monitoring students progress. Different teachers
have their own way to monitor the progress of their students, some teachers may walk around the
classroom to observe each students individual progress, or another teacher will sit at his or her
desk and wait for a student to raise their hand as a signal for help. Teachers observe the
classroom in many ways such as: participation in class, how well each student works in a group
setting and their activity with other students.
Students often ask for help when working on an assignment when they do not need the
help. Teachers should help the student the first go around, but after that, the teacher should
motivate the student to complete the assignment on their own. Usually, students will require help
in different subjects; the teacher should monitor each students capabilities for future reference.
When monitoring group work, the teacher should walk to each group to ask questions
about what the students are working on. The teacher should always put the group back on track if
they have fallen off track. Students need tons of encouragement to keep them motivated when
working solo or in a group setting.
Observing student progress in multiple classes may be difficult because there are
different ways to monitor student progress in each class. In a math class, students should be

encouraged daily. One way to monitor progress in a math class is by giving a written test, this
will show what all of the students have mastered. Some classes may require just an oral exam to
know what the students have mastered.
Monitoring English Language Learners can be difficult at times. Teacher needs to make
sure that the ELL student understands each lesson fully. One way to make sure that this type of
student learns the material is to get an interpreter to help the student understand. These types of
teachers already help the ELL students learn English.
Teachers can monitor student homework by grading the homework, and making note of
questions missed. Hand the homework back to the students to allow them to correct missed
questions to receive half credit if the questions are corrected. After all of the students are finished
correcting their homework, the teacher should go over each problem or question in front of the
class to eliminate questions widely missed.
When students show that they are not interested in the subject at hand, maybe the teacher
is not teaching as well as he or she should. The teacher should then change the lesson so that the
students will remain interested in the subject taught.
Predicting problems in a classroom will be a teachers best bet when anticipating and
handling problems in the classroom. The teacher will predict what each student is thinking when
they see the seating arrangement of the classroom. Teachers should arrange students into groups
or the u shaped seating arrangement that was talked about earlier. When students are seated in
the u shape, they are less likely to get distracted because the teacher is the main focus, not other
students. When students are seated in rows, there is not an easy way to access the seats, and the
students are more likely cause a disturbance.

Problems can be avoided in a classroom by the teacher knowing each students needs.
Students off task can be dealt with accordingly. First, the teacher must ask the student or students
what they are doing that is wrong. If the student does wrong again, simply remind that student. If
none of this helps significantly, it is now time to get the parents involved. There may be a
problem at home that is influencing the students behavior in class. Parents can be a huge help
when dealing with problem students because they know their child the best.
Learning centers are set up to promote independent learning. Students can visit these in
their free time to explore concepts and maintain their learning mastery in a fun and effective
way. There should at least be five learning centers such as: social studies, science, computer,
library, and music. Different learning centers promote student learning in a variety of topics.
Each center will provide books on the topic so the student can read the material that they
are interested in. The only exception to the books is the computer center which will only have
computers. The music center will provide music and musical instruments that the students can
enjoy. Some students may go to the same center each time because that is what they are
interested in. Teachers should promote each center and suggest that the student give every center
a try. A way to have students visit each center is through a permanent group. Each group will
rotate each week to each center to ensure that each student is getting a taste of what every center
has to offer. After every group has visited every center, the students will be allowed to go to
whichever center they want to go to.
