Andrews works for the University of Georgia. She has partnered with the Forest Service for 14 years. Dr. Askew has led and supported federally-funded research and evaluations of formal and informal STEM education programs, museum education, rural education, and college-access initiatives, which served diverse populations. She has experienced success in collaborating with science educational professionals, external advisory teams, funders, and other partners to design rigorous evaluation studies, develop valid metrics, build evaluation capacity, and disseminate lessons learned.

Rachel Becker-Klein, Ph.D. Founder and Senior Research Associate, Two Roads Consuting Dr. Becker-Klein has over thirteen years of experience as an evaluator, and has a Ph.D. in Developmental and Community Psychology. She brings her expertise in systems thinking to all phases of evaluation. She has considerable experience facilitating and using participatory monitoring and evaluation tools and methods, including qualitative and quantitative

methodologies. Dr. Becker-Klein has conducted many evaluations of environmental education, conservation organizations, and other informal science institutions.

Steven M. Braun, Ph.D. Consultant, Oregon Environmental Literacy Program Dr. Braun is an environmental science and education consultant. He currently serves as Chair of the OSU-Ex Research, Evaluation and Assessment Resource Group and sits on the Oregon Environmental Literacy Program Council. He has authored publications in Environmental Education Research, the Green Teacher and in the book Teaching About Invasive Species. He has developed research and evaluation tools for youth, adult and

program-level audiences. He has taught as a certified teacher in four states and led professional learning activities for in-service and pre-service educators in STEM, Environmental Education, Service-Learning and Inquiry.

Nicolette L. Cagle, Ph.D. Lecturer; Director of K-12 Diversity Pathway Programs, Duke University Nicki Cagle is a North Carolina Certified Environmental Educator and NAI Certified Interpretive Trainer with a passion for formal and non-formal environmental education, inclusive pedagogy, and natural history. In 2012, Nicki launched NSOE's first environmental pathway program for local high school students and in 2018, she launched an NSOE-Durham Public School

mentoring program at three low-performing high-need elementary schools. Nicki also leads quarterly listening sessions and workshops for the Chapel Hill-Durham Diversity and Equity in Environmental Programs (DEEP) community.

Charlotte Clark Assistant Professor of the Practice in Sustainability Education, Duke University [email protected] Dr. Charlotte Clark is an Assistant Professor of the Practice of Sustainability in the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University. She teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, directs the School’s undergraduate program, and University-wide is the Faculty Director of Sustainability. She has

been involved in the field of environmental education, primarily on the research side, for over 20 years, and is the Chair of the NAAEE Board of Directors.

Liz DeMattia Research Scientist, Duke University Marine Lab [email protected] Dr. Liz DeMattia is a Research Scientist at Duke’s marine laboratory. She brings strong practitioner experience to this work, having initiated, staffed, and evaluated a number of environmental education organizations and programs. She brings strength in organizational development, program evaluation, and strategic planning to the EE Evaluation project.

Michael Duffin Principal, PEER Associates Michael has been an evaluator, educator, and administrator for environmental education programs since 1992. He co-founded PEER Associates in 2003, and earned a Ph.D. in Leadership and Organizational Change from Antioch University in 2006.

Enriqueta González Director, Center for Diversity & the Environment Queta González is the Director of the Portland-based Center for Diversity & the Environment (CDE). CDE has been committed to diversifying the environmental movement, in part, by transforming mainstream environmental education.

Lincoln Larson Assistant Professor, Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Management, NC State University [email protected] Dr. Lincoln Larson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management within NC State University’s College of Natural Resources. Lincoln has spent over a decade working with a number of different government agencies and organizations to evaluate program outcomes and

address human dimensions of natural resource management at multiple scales. He is particularly interested in connections between outdoor recreation, environmental education, and pro-environmental behavior. Lincoln's current projects focus on a range of topics including environmental literacy, citizen science outcomes, and community-based conservation.

Amy Grack Nelson Evaluation & Research Manager, Science Museum of Minnesota Amy Grack Nelson is Evaluation and Research Manager in the Department of Evaluation and Research in Learning at the Science Museum of Minnesota. Amy has been working in the field of informal science education evaluation and research for over 15 years studying a wide range of ISE experiences, including environmental education programs. Before that, she

was an environmental educator at a state park and small science center. Amy received her PhD in Quantitative Methods in Education, MA in Evaluation Studies, and MS in Environmental Education all from the from the University of Minnesota.

Kim Harris, Ph.D. Senior Research Associate, ETR Services Dr. Harris is a Senior Research Associate at ETR Services in Durham, NC. She has conducted research at the University of California, Berkeley’s Lawrence Hall of Science, as part of the Science Learning Activation Lab, a national research and design collaborative with the aim of learning and demonstrating how to activate children in ways that ignite persistent engagement in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics learning

and innovation. She also served as a program evaluator for the Initiative to Maximize Student Development (IMSD) Undergraduate Scholars and Graduate Fellows program, a student support program in the Biological and Behavioral Sciences departments at UC Berkeley. Dr. Harris currently leads several interdisciplinary research and evaluation projects around issues of STEM career training and access, informal science learning, and food justice.

Joe Heimlich*

Co-Director, COSI Center for Research and Evaluation Joe has worked in environmental education for more than 35 years and has, over much of that time period, been very active in both doing and furthering the role of evaluation in EE and environmental learning. Joe’s academic career was built on evaluative research in EE and he continues that work in his current role at COSI.

Elissa Izmailyan Director of Cities & Nature, Children & Nature Network Elissa is the Director of Cities & Nature at the Children & Nature Network, where she helps city governments collaborate among departments, across jurisdictions, and with communities and the private sector to enhance children's equitable access to nature. She brings over eight years of consulting experience helping cities and their partners develop parks, infrastructure, and policies to facilitate inclusive community development. Elissa

holds a B.A. in economics and loves metrics!

Kelly Keena Co-founder + Principal Consultant, Blue Lotus Consulting & Evaluation, LLC Kelly Keena, Ph.D. is co-founder and Principal Consultant for Blue Lotus Consulting & Evaluation, LLC. She has worked in the field of environmental education as an educator and administrator, and as a formal classroom teacher and instructional coach in K-8 science. Currently, she is a researcher/evaluator in nature-based/outdoor learning. Kristen Kunkle Research and Program Manager, North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) Kristen oversees research-to-practice efforts and supports professional development, evaluation, and capacity building activities at NAAEE. Prior to joining NAAEE, Kristen worked primarily as an environmental educator focused on community-based ecosystem restoration. She holds an M.S. in Environmental Education and Communication and helped lead

the formative and summative evaluations of Project Learning Tree’s award-winning curriculum, Southeastern Forests and Climate Change.

Monica McCann Associate Director, Resourceful Communities, The Conservation Fund Monica McCann serves as Associate Director for Resourceful Communities, a program of The Conservation Fund, that supports a North Carolina network of rural, community organizations. As Associate Director, she is responsible for program development, fundraising and evaluation. Through her work, she helps develop and manage initiatives that support

community priorities around environmental stewardship, environmental justice and community economic development.

Babs McDonald* Social Scientist, US Forest Service Babs has been involved with environmental and science education for the past 25 years. Babs founded the science journal Natural Inquirer. She also was instrumental in developing EUGENE, an online environmental education evaluation system and worked in an advisory capacity with the development of MEERA.

Martha Monroe Professor and Associate Director, School of Forest Resources and Conservation, University of Florida Martha Monroe is an Extension specialist in environmental education and professor in the School of Forest Resources and Conservation at the University of Florida in Gainesville. She provides support to a variety of environmental education programs (such as 4-H and Project Learning Tree) and teaches communication, conservation behavior, and environmental

education program development courses to graduate and undergraduate students. Her work in evaluating extension programs includes both youth (formal and nonformal) and adult audiences; the latter involves measuring change in behavior, community capacity, and environmental quality.

Kaylee Mulligan Program Associate, Pisces Foundation Kaylee is a program associate at the Pisces Foundation, focusing on the Environmental Education Program. Her career has centered on environmental education, from her previous work experiences at NatureBridge, Connecticut Audubon Society, and Sierra Outdoor School to her graduate and undergraduate studies at Yale University. Kaylee is deeply interested in how we can use research and evaluation to improve the environmental

education field’s effectiveness and promote environmental literacy.

Katie Navin Executive Director, Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education Katie has been active in environmental education for over 15 years and has served as an educator and developed curriculum at organizations ranging from museums to residential outdoor facilities in seven different states. She joined CAEE in May of 2008. CAEE is a professional association for over 850 environmental educators in Colorado and works to advance EE

by driving excellence, fostering collaboration, and mobilizing support.

Milton G. Newberry, III*

Assistant Professor, University of Georgia Dr. Newberry has worked in environmental education in several states across the eastern U.S. for over 10 years. Over the past five years, he has focused his research and teaching on evaluation competency-building in environmental education and other nonformal education programs.

Michele Perch Program Associate, William Penn Foundation Michele manages and guides strategy for the William Penn Foundation’s (WPF) “constituency building” grant portfolio, a body of work that aims to build support for the protection of the Delaware River watershed through increased public access to water and experiential environmental education on and near the region’s waterways. As part of this work, she has guided the development and strategy of the Alliance for Watershed

Tina Phillips Assistant Director, Citizen Science Program, Cornell Lab of Ornithology For the past two decades, Tina Phillips has conducted research, evaluation, and strategic planning efforts across numerous citizen science projects and Lab programs. Dr. Phillips is currently a Co-PI on two large-scale NSF-funded projects, one examining the relationship between engagement in citizen science and outcomes related to skills, efficacy, behavior, and

science identity; and the other an online project aimed at co-creating citizen science investigations around bird behavior. She was also the project leader for DEVISE, an NSF-funded project aimed at building capacity for project design and evaluating outcomes from citizen science.

Indira Phukan, MS Doctoral Candidate in Curriculum and Teacher Education, Stanford Graduate School of Education and Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources Indira Phukan is a doctoral candidate at Stanford’s Graduate School of Education. She has a M.S. in Environmental Sciences from Stanford, a M.Ed. in Special Education, and a B.A. in History from Harvard. She worked as an environmental educator and diversity coordinator in Yosemite, and a teacher in Las

Vegas. She researches stereotypes about the environmental movement in order to illuminate ways that people have been systematically and institutionally excluded and suggests ways of inclusion.

Ginger Potter Sr. Education Specialist, US Environmental Protection Agency Ginger is the Program Manager for the EPA National Environmental Education and Training Program--ee360. She is also responsible for EE program design, implementation and management as well as research and evaluation, program assessment and strategic planning in EPA’s Office of Environmental Education. Ginger serves as the Co-Chair of the Global Environmental Education Partnership (GEEP).

Bob Powell Clemson Universiy Robert B. Powell is the George B. Hartzog, Jr. Endowed Professor in Philosophy, Parks, and Environmental Ethics in the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management at Clemson University. He is also the Director of the Institute for Parks, which is an interdisciplinary institute focused on providing research, training, and outreach to support park and protected area management. His research and outreach program focuses

on environmental education and interpretation, ecotourism, and protected area management.

Amy Powers Principal, PEER Associates After a decade as an environmental educator, Amy Powers co-founded Vermont-based PEER (Program Evaluation and Educational Research) Associates in 2002. Her goal with PEER is to serve organizations with environmental and place-based education missions by helping them to measure what matters most and use evaluation findings and processes to strengthen their programs and organizations. One of her current areas of

focus is in nature play.

Mozhgon Rajaee Visiting Assistant Professor, Duke University, Nicholas School of the Environment Mozhgon is a professor of environmental health and justice who focuses on issues of community design. She is interested in how environmental education can be used to shift the larger environmental movement into adopting more inclusive issues and increasing diversity. She also taught outdoor environmental education in northern California.

Bronwen Rice National Coordinator, Bay Watershed Education and Training Program, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Bronwen coordinates the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Bay Watershed Education & Training (B-WET) program, a competitive grant program that funds outdoor experiential environmental education in schools around the United States. She is based at the NOAA Office of Education in Washington, D.C., where she helps support the office's work to

advance education related to NOAA's mission through scholarships, competitive grants, and other partnerships. Bronwen holds an Master of Science in Marine Resource Management from Oregon State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from New College of Florida.

Autumn Saxton-Ross, Ph.D. Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, NatureBridge Autumn Saxton-Ross, Ph.D., is a resident of the District of Columbia and is currently the Mid-Atlantic Regional Director for NatureBridge, a national residential environmental education non-profit, overseeing programs at Prince William Forest and Shenandoah National Parks in Virginia. She started her career as an elementary school Health and PE teacher in DCPS, and has since worked for the Montgomery County Recreation

Department, Washington Parks and People, the National Collaborative for Health Equity, and the DC Department of Health Her research, academic and professional interests are on the social and physical environment and their influences on physical activity, opportunity and resources, specifically in Black and urban populations, and the health benefits of parks and green spaces. In this work, she has experience evaluating program interventions and leading community based participatory research (photo voice and go-along interviews).

Mina Silberberg, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Duke CFM Mina Silberberg, Ph.D., is Associate Professor, Duke Department of Community and Family Medicine; Vice-Chief for Research and Evaluation, Duke Division of Community Health; and a faculty affiliate of the Duke Council on Race and Ethnicity. She has over two decades of experience in program evaluation and policy analysis, with a focus on community/population health and community engagement. She teaches “Program Evaluation for

Health” at the Duke Global Health Institute and is an RWJF Interdisciplinary Research Leader (IRL) Fellow.

Jessica Sperling, Ph.D. Lead, Evaluation & Engagement, Duke University, Social Science Research Institute Jessica Sperling, PhD, serves as the lead of the Evaluation & Engagement area at Duke’s Social Science Research Institute. Her work is dedicated to developing community-engaged and applied research, improving programs through responsive and collaborative evaluation, and advancing educational programming with hands-on opportunities in

applied research and evaluation. Her evaluation efforts at Duke have focused on education, healthcare, innovation/pilot programming, and diversity/equity initiatives. She holds a doctorate in sociology with specialization in stratification, education, and research methodology.

Jasmine Stammes Healthy Eating and Active Living Coordinator, Resourceful Communities, The Conservation Fund Jasmine provides capacity building and technical assistance to community-based organizations across rural North Carolina. Jasmine supports organizations in planning, implementing and evaluating environmental education programs as part of their active living in natural spaces priority.

Marc Stern Professor, College of Natural Resources and Environment, Virginia Tech Dr. Stern's research has most recently focused on determining the factors that tend to lead toward better outcomes for students attending EE programs of various types. This has involved large scale comparative studies in addition to more traditional single-program evaluations. He teaches courses at Virginia Tech in Environmental Education, Environmental

Interpretation, Social Science Research Methods, and the Human Dimensions of Natural Resource Management.

Kathryn Stevenson Assistant Professor, Parks, Recreation & Tourism Management, NC State University Environmental education is at the heart of Kathryn's research and teaching at NC State. She teaches environmental interpretation and education, and her lab investigates drivers of environmental literacy, including the role of nature-based learning, community and citizen science, and intergenerational learning.

Kristen Travers Watershed Stewardship Leader, Delaware Nature Society Combining a background in environmental science and training design and development, Kristen Travers brings 25 years of experience in connecting, educating and engaging diverse audiences to the importance of our water resources and the stewardship and conservation practices to protect them. Her EE experience ranges from hands-on-student programming to development of nationally available watershed education

resources and materials. She does not have an extensive evaluation background but has done some work with program evaluation, logic models and needs assessments.

Corrie Colvin Williams Co-founder + Principal Consultant, Blue Lotus Consulting & Evaluation, LLC My research and evaluation interest lies in how children, youth, and adults make meaning out of their connection to the natural world including how their well-being and identity are often interwoven with their surrounding environment. While quality connection with nature is and should be an essential part of who we are as individuals, I am also interested in exploring the ways

in which nature fosters other components of healthy and sustainable communities including social connection and cohesion, positive youth development, and sense of place. I believe evaluation and research play an integral role in helping both better understand and share this story.

Noelle Wyman Roth Associate in Research, Duke University [email protected] Noelle Wyman Roth is an Associate in Research for the Nicholas School of the Environment and the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) at Duke University. Noelle has worked in EE research for five years. In addition, she conducts community-engaged evaluation with SSRI and consults on EE and STEM evaluation projects. Noelle helps manage the EE Evaluation

project, including event planning and data collection and analysis.

Charles Yelton Regional Network Chief, NC Museum of Natural Sciences Charles Yelton is a certified NC Environmental Educator and has served as president of the NC Association of Environmental Education Centers and the NC Invasive Plant Council, as well as serving on the board of the NC Museums Council and the NC Environmental Educator Certification Committee. When not spending time outdoors with his children, Charles works to provide quality science education to citizens throughout North

Carolina as the NC Museum of Natural Sciences’ Regional Network Chief where he oversees operations at the Museum’s Prairie Ridge Ecostation, Regional Branch in Whiteville, and the North Carolina Science Museums Grant Program.

Michaela Zint, M.B.A., Ph.D. Professor of Environmental Education & Communication, University of Michigan Dr. Michaela Zint conducts environmental education and communication research at the University of Michigan (UM) and is a recipient of NAAEE’s Outstanding Contributions to Research in Environmental Education Award. She has published a variety of environmental education program evaluations, including ones focused on behavioral outcomes. She (co-) developed two

national evaluation systems, one for EPA’s EETAP2&3 and one for NOAA B-WET’s grant program. MEERA environmental education’s current primary on-line evaluation resource was created under her leadership in collaboration with national experts and UM students.
