Job Skills, Talents and Experiences
Part 1• After medical school, M.D.’s or O.D.’s must take a
residency. This is to gain experience in the
desired field
• Most residencies last around 12 months
• I could gain some experience volunteering at my
doctor’s office.
• I think I’m fit because I like people and I like to
help people and I have a lot of the qualities
already.

Job Skills, Talents and Experiences
Part 2
• Must have a good attitude and desire to work
with all patients.
• Have to be a good problem solver, and
sometimes a quick thinker.
• Physicians must also have good emotional
control and good bedside manner.
![Page 5: Education/Training 4 years of undergraduate school 4 years of medical school 3-8 years of internship and residency Some schools offer a combined program](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022080916/56649ea75503460f94baa8ef/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Earning/ Financial• The average starting salary is about $150,267 per year.
• The average salary of self employed M.D.’s is $186,044
per year.
• The most I could expect would be around $200,000.
• The number of patients, years of experience, and level of
education can effect the average salary.
• School, office set up, bills, and advertisement can also
effect the salary. As well as the fact that M.D’s and O.D’s
get sued a lot…

Benefits, Health Care, and Vacation
Self Employed• Flexible Hours (including office hours)• Being self employed I would choose my own
vacation time as well as my insurance. • I also wouldn’t have to argue for how much I get
paid.• I also wouldn’t have to go to the doctor as much
because I am one.• Some of the issues would be testing people wrong,
or giving them the wrong information. That could cause a lot of problems.
• I would most likely be able to receive a 401K.

Benefits, Health Care, and Vacation
Employed• Normal vacation time is between one and two
weeks.• Hours range from 7-6. Most doctors work long hours.
They’re on call 90% of the time.• Standard Salary is slightly lower then a self
employed G.P. so about 150- 160 thousand.• Chances of receiving a standard retirement plan.• Same issues apply. Treating someone with the
wrong dose, or giving them a false statements. • Average of 1 to 2 weeks vacation time.

Employment Outlook
• A G.P. could that started out employed by a hospital would have the opportunity to advance by opening their own office.
• Another way of advancing would be to greatly expand the patient base.
• Number of people in the area, number of places to work are some things that could affect the availability of the job.
• This job is constantly going to be growing, because people of all ages will need to be getting physicals every year. Therefore also making it constantly in demand.

Advance Opportunities
• If I started out as an M.D. (doctor of medicine) I could go back and acquire more schooling to become and O.D. (Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine)
• I could also open more than one office with a business partner.
• Another option for advancement would be to become a doctor in a specialized field, like speech pathology. That would require going back to school and getting my master’s degree in speech pathology, and 375 hours of supervised clinical experience.

Typical Day
• Get into work, file some paperwork, get all my charts and things ready for my appointments and go form there. Then theirs closing and making sure all the paperwork is filed, and everything is ready for the next day.
• Average hours of 9-5, depending of when the last appointment of the day is scheduled.
• the best part of the day would be a day of all fun baby check ups.
• But the worst part of the day would be having to see a sick person that pukes on you. Or giving shots. But it’s all worth it in the end.

Aptitude
• I love to be with people in general, and I don’t mind taking care of sick people either.
• I’m good at filing, and being organized, which is helpful for this job as well.
• Before my grandpa died, he had been diagnosed with cancer. And I did anything that I could to help him. I would get his medicine, and when I went to his appointments with him, I asked some pretty difficult questions.
• I’ve also worked with little kids and have a knack for it as you would say.
