This past fall se-
mester, education-
al counseling grad-
uate students
founded the Edu-
cational Counsel-
ing Student Asso-
ciation (ECSA). All
educational coun-
seling students,
staff, and faculty
are encouraged to
join. The purpose
of the ECSA is to
promote under-
standing of a broad
range of educa-
tional counseling
issues for graduate
students enrolled
in the educational
counseling pro-
gram. The associa-
tion may do this by
sponsoring educa-
tional events, or-
ganizing social
gatherings, raising
funds for members
to attend profes-
sional develop-
ment events, as
well as volunteer-
ing and donating
to charitable asso-
ciations within the
community. This
past semester the
ECSA sponsored a
food drive which
collected canned
goods to be donat-
ed to the Long
Branch community
as well as hosting
their 1st holiday
social event. If you
have any questions
or would like to
join ECSA, please
contact Dr. Sasso,
the club advisor.

My name is Francisco and I am a first year
graduate student in the Student Affairs and
College Counseling (SACC) program here at
Monmouth University. I transferred from
West Chester University of Pennsylvania
and I chose the SACC program for its focus
on social justice and college student devel-
opment. Much of my student affairs and
higher education experiences have come
from working in Residence Life and Hous-
ing Services for over 4 years. Prior to at-
tending Monmouth, I was a Graduate Assis-
tant Hall Director where I learned that if
one is to make an investment in the lives of
others, this includes staff and students;
then in return, those individuals will make

Professional Development Opportunities
Monmouth's graduate counseling programs in education prepare students to become
skilled counseling professionals ready to deliver comprehensive counseling programs
in elementary and secondary schools, colleges, or universities. Our school counseling
program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Edu-
cational Programs (CACREP), and our student affairs and college counseling program
is currently in the accreditation process.
Students in this program develop a strong identity as empathic and competent profes-
sionals focused on self-awareness, personal and professional development, and contin-
uous learning. Monmouth's accomplished faculty provide learning experiences de-
signed to meet professional counseling competencies. Students take part in theoretical
and practical course work, supervised counseling practice, and the development of a
professional counselor portfolio.
The goals of the counseling programs at Monmouth University are to foster the growth
and development of students who aspire to be professional school counselors, student
affairs professionals, or college counselors. Our master's degree programs in school
counseling and student affairs and college counseling at Monmouth University focus
on a comprehensive, integrative approach designed to prepare students with the prac-
tical counseling skills used in a school or college environment.
Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds, solidifying the commitment to a
