EDUCATION WEEK

I Learn, We Learn is the theme for Education Week this year. It signifies the individual and collaborative nature of the learning process. We all learn throughout our lives with many individual learning goals and aspirations, however our learning can be greatly enhanced when learning collectively, as part of a group. Collectively as a system, the NSW Department of Education strives to achieve equity and excellence for all of its students across the state in over 2200 schools. Staff constantly develop their skills and understandings to best cater for the individual and collective needs of all students. So this week, please join with us on Thursday for our Open Day to celebrate the successes of our students and to maintain your level of support for the students at our school and across the state.

BOOK FAIR

Our annual Education Week Book Fair will be on again this Thursday. The Book Fair will be in operation from 8.30am – 3.00pm except between 11.15am-12.15pm during our assembly. What a great way to encourage reading in our children by purchasing a book or two from the Book Fair. Thanks Mrs Cassidy for your hard work in organising this for our students and families.

CEREMONY OF EXCELLENCE – HASTINGS VALLEY COMMUNITY OF SCHOOLS

Students from each of our grades representing Year 3 to Year 6 were nominated and presented with Certificates of Excellence at the Glasshouse on Tuesday evening. Congratulations to:

This was a prestigious ceremony including students from all 8 schools in our Community of Schools.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

Congratulations to all of our Lake Cathie students who competed at the District Athletics Carnival last Friday at Wauchope. Great effort, determination and spirit was on show throughout the day by all of our students, parents and families. Congratulations to the students who will progress to the next stage, the Lower North Coast carnival on Tuesday 8 August.

BOOK WEEK CHARACTER DRESS UP DAY!!!

Please start thinking of ideas for our book character dress up on Friday 25 August. The staff will also be dressing up so please join in the fun.

BAND CAMP

A large number of our Lake Cathie Public School band students joined me at the annual Community of Schools Band Camp at the Francis Retreat, Bonny Hills. We joined students from Kendall, Laurieton, North Haven and also some great kids from Camden Haven High School. Mrs Skerritt, Mrs Bruggemann and Mrs Regan from North Haven, along with Mr Richardson, music teacher from Camden Haven High School and a large number of volunteers, joined Mrs Irving and myself for three great days at band camp. The kids were fantastic and the final band camp concert was brilliant. There were great meals, games nights, developing friendships and a good deal of fun and we encourage more of our band members to join us next year.

SHOWCASE OF EXCELLENCE

Thursday 17 August – 10.00am

Our annual invitation to families of students starting school in 2018 and 2019 involves a visit to see our students perform along with our student leaders. This is part of our ongoing Transition to School program to assist our prospective students and their families become more familiar and at ease with coming to school. We look forward to seeing you there. Please pass on this information to any families you may know who are joining us in the next few years.

PARENT/ TEACHER INFORMATION/WORKSHOP SESSIONS

Details about each class’s session, date and time will come out shortly. Parents will also have the option to book in for a one-on-one session with their child’s teacher.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE AND VACATION CARE

After a large selection process through the State Government’s eTendering process, Active OOSH has been awarded the contract to provide this service at Lake Cathie Public School. Information sessions are being planned and dates and times will be communicated very soon. Thank you to Susie Storm and Claire Briggs, our two past Presidents, for their role on the Tender Selection Committee representing the P&C.

LMBR – NEW SCHOOL OPERATING SYSTEM FOR FINANCE, STUDENT MANAGEMENT AND STUDENT WELLBEING

WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN

Please start collecting your stickers as part of the Earn and Learn program. They can be placed in the Lake Cathie box either at Woolworths or we have one at school in the foyer. We aim to use the Earn and Learn allocation on passive play toys, games and equipment this year.

CANTEEN ROSTER

DISTRICT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

Last Friday, 37 students proudly represented Lake Cathie Public School at the District Athletics Carnival in Wauchope. These students showed wonderful sportsmanship by cheering each other on during events and trying their best during all individual events. The four relay teams exhibited awesome sportsmanship and amazing baton changes thanks to training with Mrs McCleary and Mrs Bishop. There were some huge schools attending the carnival so competition was tough, however the following students managed to earn ribbons:

Faith Brown - 4th in Shot Put Sonny Crisp - 2nd in Shot Put Max Fellowes - 2nd in 100m Rocco Day - 3rd in 100m and 4th in 200m Summah Harris - 4th in Long Jump Jordyn Miller - 4th in Long Jump

Max Fellowes, Rocco Day and Sonny Crisp will be progressing to the next level and we wish them the best of luck!

A massive thanks to the families that attended on the day and assisted with transport. We had many wonderful cheerleaders helping to push our athletes to their best!

It was an absolute pleasure to attend the carnival with such a positive bunch of individuals.

Dear Parents and caregivers of Kindergarten children,

Join our Pictureproducts Project!

Turn your child’s treasured memories into durable, high-quality melamine Pictureplates that will last a lifetime!

Both decorative and useful, Pictureplates are simply beautiful. Children love eating off their very own Pictureplates, and as the years go by and they grow up and have their own families, their Pictureplates will bring back memories of those happy childhood years.

Your child can complete the artwork at school or at home and you can order as many copies of your products as you’d like, so it’s a fantastic gift idea for grandparents and family members. If you have a younger or older sibling that you would like to order a plate for to complete the artwork at home, please see Mrs Haste.

Buy now and put them away for Christmas.

How to get involved

We’d love for you to join in this exciting and creative activity. Fill out and bring in your order form with cash or a cheque made out to the school in an envelope marked ‘Pictureproducts’.
