Castle Gaol e Gaol occupies the lowest chamber ofCaesar’s Tower and was built in the 14thCentury as the original dungeon. Leadingfrom a small hatch in the ground, a singleflight of steps provides the only way inand out.

Mill & EngineHouse

For nearly 600 years the Mill used thepower of the River Avon to grind grain.In the 19th Century the hydropower washarnessed by the Engine House togenerate electricity for the castle.

Walk the walls once used by bowmen andarchers. Climb to the top of Guy’s Towerand follow the ramparts to the upper levelsof the Gatehouse. Continuing along thewalls, visit the tallest tower; Caesar’s Toweron the southern side. Set in the north walls,stunted Clarence and Bear Towers wereonce home to the Royal Keep and bears.

Take a short but steep ascent to the top ofthe oldest part of Warwick Castle. First builtin 1068 under the orders of William theConqueror, it formed the most importantpart of the castle’s defence system and wasa symbol of power and authority.

With this in mind thistour aims to show how weaponry, tactics andbattle styles have developed over the centuries,using key battles as examples. From the Normaninvasion to the modern day, we’ll demonstratethese changes interactively with replica weapons.

How do I get my free Teacher planningtickets?Once you’ve made a booking and paid the balance in full– simply bring your confirmation to one of our ticketwindows. You’ll be given two tickets per booking, andcan use them on any date prior to your school trip.Please note, car parking is not included.

Where can we have lunch?ere are plenty of picnic areas around the grounds –some in shady spots for sunny days too. If you wantan indoor lunch area, you’ll need to request this whenyou book.

Can we have a Guide?Warwick Castle is a mostly self-guided experience.Our dedicated Education Team will greet you on arrivaland be on-call should you have any questions throughoutthe day. ey’ll also lead any workshops or tours you’vebooked.

Can I have a VAT receipt?Of course! You’ll need to request this after your visithas taken place, by contacting our Call Centre on0333 321 2001. Have your booking reference ready.

How do I change a booking?You’ll need to speak to our Call Centre on 0333 3212001 to change an existing booking. Make sure youhave your booking reference to hand. Waiting timesmay be longer during busy times of day.

What’s your cancellation policy?You’re free to cancel up to 10 days before your visitby contacting our Call Centre. eir details are atthe back of this guide.

Can I add a workshop or tour at a later date?Yes. You’ll need to speak to our Call Centre (on 0333321 2001). We’re unable to make changes to bookingswithin 10 days of arrival.

How suitable is Warwick Castlefor SEN students?We’ll always do our best to accommodate everyone.If any of your group have unique requirements thenmake sure you let us know when you book. If you haveany specific questions, please contact our Schools Officer(our contact details are at the back of this guide).

What about accessibility?Some areas of the castle and grounds are difficultto access by wheelchair. It’s important to read ourfull accessibility guide; available online atwarwick-castle.com/schools.

I’ve got a reservation, how do I pay?We accept payment via BACS transfer, chequeor debit/credit card. Details on how to pay will beon your confirmation. Payment must be received atleast 10 days before your visit date. Please follow thepayment instructions very carefully; any mistakescould cause a delay to your entry or result in yourbooking being cancelled.
