The mission of the College of Education is to prepare, inspire and support teachers, counselors, educational leaders, researchers and volunteers to promote lifelong learning in schools, colleges, universities, communities and workplaces. What is the Education Double Degree?

The Education Double Degree allows OSU undergraduate students to earn a primary degree in the field of their area of interest (Content Mastery) and a second degree in Education to enable them to teach in the classroom.

Double Degree Advantages:

• Graduate with 2 degrees, one in your primary degree and one in education. AND you have an advisor for each degree to assist you on your journey.

• K-12 Classroom Setting– You are licensed to teach in a public

school classroom upon graduation.

– 40 additional credit hours in education along with the coursework for a degree in your chosen field

– 9 credits of core requirements; 16 credits of teaching methods; and 15 credits of student teaching.

• K-12 - Authorization Levels (Age=Authorization) With the Education Double Degree, you

will be authorized to teach one of the following levels:

•Early Childhood (age 3-grade 4)•Elementary (grades 3-8)•Middle Level (grades 5-9)•High School (grades 9-12)

Pre-Education Requirements:• 3.0 GPA• Declare Pre-Education• Take TCE 216 (3 cr.,) 219 (3 cr.,)

and 253 (3 cr.)• Fill out Content Mastery Form to date (meet

with Advisor during your first term to review)• 60 hours of classroom experience appropriate

to authorization level• 2 letters of reference from classroom

experience & primary degree area

As an advisee, you should:• Understand and accept that you are ultimately responsible

for your education and your own decisions.• Be prepared when you come to advising sessions; be active in

your advising session, and ask questions when you have them.• Understand and communicate personal values, abilities, and

goals.• Provide accurate and truthful information when being advised.• Initiate a purposeful relationship with your advisor and make

appointments when necessary or when in need of assistance.• Keep your local address and phone up to date in Student Online

Services and utilize and regularly check your ONID account.• Call to cancel appointments that cannot be kept.• Learn and understand OSU’s policies, procedures, and

requirements as they relate to your academic success and/or degree completion.

• Follow through on plans-of-action identified during advising sessions.

Advising Relationship

Your advisor should:• Develop a purposeful relationship with and be an advocate

for their advisees.• Inform students of the nature of the advisor/advisee

relationship.• Assist students in defining and developing expressed

educational, career, and life plans.• Provide timely and accurate educational information.• Promote learning opportunities that will help students define or

meet personal goals and plans.• Assist students in preparing a program that is consistent with

their abilities and interests.• Monitor progress toward educational/career goals.• Interpret and provide rationale for institutional policies,

procedures and requirements.• Inform inquiring students of campus resources and special

services available to them.• Refer students to those resources that can enhance or

supplement their academic or personal experience.
