Edition 13: 11 th December 2020 Message from the Headteacher Mrs John Thank you to all our parents for their feedback on the new Stanborough Logo. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and I appreciate that so many families felt that this change was needed to reflect the ambition we have for every one of our students. This week we have also been able to safely open our canteen to allow our students to enjoy the Christmas season! Our students in Year 7, 8 and 9 have been able to enjoy Christmas dinner as a year group bubble and we look forward to welcoming the older year groups next week. As you are aware, year group bubbles have their own areas during break and lunch and this has worked very well. As a result, we have worked with our catering contractor and are going to reintroduce a catering service again, when we return in January. Please do refer to the letter that was sent out on the 27 th of November or alternatively refer to the letters section of our website. Thank you again for all your support, for the positive feedback as well as the constructive feedback to move our school forward. I am always reassured that parents feel confident to reach out to me to discuss issues that they feel strongly about. Without this feedback from our parents as a key stakeholder, we will not be able to move forward as a school. I thank our parents personally for this. Headteacher’s Commendations Oliver Model-Shepherd, Isobel Harrington and Jessica Warne (Yr. 7) for becoming millionaire readers; Evie Smith, (Yr. 7) for an amazing attitude to reading during accelerated reading lessons; Oreoluwa Oyedare, (Yr. 7) for winning this month’s maths competition in the Stanborough Times; Aidan Norman, (Yr. 7) for being resilient and adapting extremely well to Stanborough; Siya Hirani, (Yr. 7) for always producing immaculate work and completing extension tasks; Hannah Broderick, (Yr. 7) for impressive leadership on the ‘Kindness’ play for the Y7 monthly challenge; Trisha Ahir and Delia Alexandru, (Yr.7) for excellent work on the ‘Kindness’ play for the Y7 monthly challenge; Sean Makoka, (Yr. 8) for going above and beyond in PE; Sean Wilsmore, (Yr. 8) for demonstrating extreme bravery; Eloise Laurence, (Yr. 9) for consistently giving a 100% in Business Studies; Philip Tsitlakidis, (Yr. 10) for an excellent approach to school life and maintaining an excellent attitude to learning; Janay Annis, (Yr. 10) for making excellent effort with all tasks set and for being a positive role model; Nicholas Wright, (Yr. 10) for excellent effort to complete all work to a high standard; Faizan Choudhry, (Yr. 11) for performing beyond his target, contributing to lessons and supporting other students in maths; Annabel Dunstan, Louis Ross, Sophie Covill and Charlie Earnshaw, (Yr.12 & Yr. 13) for achieving a place in the top two in their year group for their ‘Attitude to Learning’ in Y12 and Y13. Message from the Headteacher – Mrs John

Thank you to all our parents for their feedback on the new Stanborough Logo. The feedback has been

overwhelmingly positive and I appreciate that so many families felt that this change was needed to reflect the

ambition we have for every one of our students. This week we have also been able to safely open our canteen

to allow our students to enjoy the Christmas season! Our students in Year 7, 8 and 9 have been able to enjoy

Christmas dinner as a year group bubble and we look forward to welcoming the older year groups next week.

As you are aware, year group bubbles have their own areas during break and lunch and this has worked very

well. As a result, we have worked with our catering contractor and are going to reintroduce a catering service

again, when we return in January. Please do refer to the letter that was sent out on the 27th of November or

alternatively refer to the letters section of our website. Thank you again for all your support, for the positive

feedback as well as the constructive feedback to move our school forward. I am always reassured that parents

feel confident to reach out to me to discuss issues that they feel strongly about. Without this feedback from our

parents as a key stakeholder, we will not be able to move forward as a school. I thank our parents personally

for this.

School Council Meeting Jonny Baynes, Head Boy, writes:

Last Friday saw the school council convene for the second time this year, with plenty of things to discuss.

The heads of school team and I were pleased that all year groups have come up with ways to fundraise for

CLIC Sargent. Each year group will have to chance to run things such as cake sales on the day of their

respective Christmas lunches, which commenced on Wednesday with Year 7.

We also discussed encouraging students to bring reusable water bottles to school with them, as opposed to

plastic disposable bottles, which are not so environmentally friendly.

Students will be pleased to know the school bell is under review and won’t be so lengthy in the future. This

has been a very hot topic in the school throughout the term.

Finally, get bidding on the silent charity

auction! Nando’s vouchers, Christmas hampers,

and Artwork are just some of the amazing gifts

up for grabs, at excellent prices...

In

In School

Every year leader has their own office where the year leader and deputy year leader are based. This is a great place to go if you have a problem or need help.

Sharing Feelings Sharing feelings can be very daunting, but it can be really useful. Our thoughts and feelings can become overwhelming at times, and it’s useful to share how we are feeling to help make sense of things. It’s important to choose someone you trust, a parent, friend, teacher or other adult. Find a time when they aren’t busy and you’re not going to be interrupted. They may not have all the answers, but saying things out loud or writing them down can make us feel better.

Talk to someone you trust if you need to – it’s good to

share how you feel

Profile of the Week

Mr Foster

Teacher of Boys PE

Mr Foster started at Stanborough in September 2019.

“I teach boys’ core PE where students develop skills in a wide range of team and

individual sports. I also teach GCSE Sports Studies where students learn about a

variety of aspects which impact sports performance, such as anatomy and

physiology, components of fitness and sport psychology.

I love my job because I can see the joy that a wide range of activities can bring to students which improves

their physical, social and mental health. It is also highly rewarding when pupils regularly learn new skills

and feel a sense of achievement.

In my spare time I enjoy going on long bike rides. I also enjoy going to watch Sunderland AFC on most

Saturdays. Hopefully it won’t be too long until we are back in stadiums again and we can return to the

premier league where we belong!
