Term 1 Week 4 2018

Principal Report

Welcome Parents and friends of Edgeworth PS to our second addition of our newsletter. We have had a huge start to the year. The students have been working very hard and supporting one another across the school. I have been extremely impressed as I have moved around our school the positive interactions between our students and their teachers. It has been a pleasure to interact with our community and many of you have made me feel extremely welcomed.

We have a lot happening across the school, we will endeavour to continue to update our calendars, website, Skoolbag app and notes sent home in a timely manner. Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated.

School Attendance As in previous years the school is again asking parents and carers to please ensure that their child is attending school regularly. We all realise with consistent attendance at school, increased educational outcomes can be achieved. If we look at an example of 5 days off a Term– 20 days off in a year– 140 days off. If the pattern continues from Kinder to Year 6 this puts a student 3 terms behind. We ALL understand how hard it is sometimes to get children to school. If there are any concerns that we can support parents with we will. Notes and phone calls will again be a means of communication when dealing with absences. PLEASE let the school know by phone, on our APP or a letter sent into school. We wish to strengthen our school Attendance rates - with your help it is easily achievable.

Extreme Weather Conditions It has been a tough couple of weeks for the students with the extreme heat. We do ask that students try to bring additional water bottles to school and ensure they have their school hats. We will ensure students safety needs are at the forefront of our decisions.

Planning for 2018 and beyond

Our goal for Edgeworth PS is to ensure that we build on our past so that we can succeed for the future. With this in mind we are currently reviewing our current directions and processes to ensure that we are enabling individualised success for all our students. We will be asking parents and community members to get involved in the process by providing feedback-having your say- as a part of the collaborative planning we are undertaking. This will only strengthen what we can do together. We are looking to provide stability and strengthen connections as a part of what we do. We look forward to striving together. Todd Osland

Parents and carers are invited to attend an information session at the Preschool on Thursday 22 February from 4.00pm to 4.45pm. Come along, meet other parents and find out about our program and Quality Improvement Plan. Children are welcome to attend. We hope to see you there. Ann Blayden and Jennifer Mitchell

Early Stage 1 A great start Congratulations to all Kindergarten students on a great start to Kindergarten. We are 13 days into Kindergarten and the classrooms have come alive with literacy and maths groups, reading and writing. We are also very excited to be counting down the days to our 100 days of school party!!!!!

Information session A Kindergarten information session will be held on Wednesday 21 February in the school hall. Teachers will provide information about curriculum, Stage organisation and class routines. There will be an opportunity to visit classrooms and speak to teachers. Label Please ensure that lunchboxes, drink bottles and items of clothing are all labelled. This makes it easier to return lost items. Best start Best start reports will be sent home this week. This will provide you with strategies to use with your child at home to support literacy and numeracy. Please make an appointment with your child’s teacher if you would like to discuss the report.

Stage 1

Stage 1: 1/2D

In the Spotlight!

Welcome to 1/2D. Our teacher is Mrs Davies and we are a bright, imaginative, respectful and hardworking class who love learning! This term we are learning to write about MONSTERS!

We are enjoying the beautiful summer weather, eating our healthy lunches outside together as one happy and united team. We are really proud of our playground and always leave it looking spotless!

Every Friday, Mr Luschwitz visits our classroom and teaches us Aboriginal stories, traditions, history and culture. We had a fantastic lesson where he taught us the story of the Magpie and The Butcherbird. Ask us all about it!

Freya the cat is our class mascot!!! MEOW!

Stage 2

We have had a smooth start to Term 1, with student’s straight back into their hard work in class and great behaviour. Like every term, Term 1 promises to be a busy and fun term ahead. All teachers are reporting that the children have settled well into routines and are working hard in class. An overview of Stage 2 learning and routines will be shared at the Stage 2 parent information session, this Wednesday 21 February 3:30-4:15. If you are unable to attend, please keep a look out for the handout that will be sent home on Thursday. We look forward to seeing parents and carers there on Wednesday. Warm regards Emma Collier Rel. Assistant Principal

Stage 3 Parent Information Afternoon A reminder our Parent Information Afternoon is this afternoon from 3:30-4:15pm. We will begin in the school hall, before giving parents a chance to visit their child’s classroom. Teachers will be going through the year ahead and answering any parent questions. A reminder that this is not an opportunity to discussions about individual students- these can be arranged for a private meeting time with your child’s teacher or done during Parent Teacher Interviews later in the term. CANBERRA Our Year 6 Canberra excursion is fast approaching, and will be here before we know it. We head to Canberra from Wednesday April 4 to Friday April 6. Information for our Year 6 students has gone home- including medical forms and code of conduct, which need to be returned ASAP, as well as an equipment list. Please note that ALL payments and forms are due no later than Wednesday March 14. There will be no extensions or late payments. Stage 3 in action
