specifications have been introduced for first teaching from September 2006.

Edexcel GCSE Science• The new specifications reflect the need for

students who do not continue beyond GCSE to get a practical grounding in the application of Science, and the need for students who will take Science further to gain the knowledge to do so.

Edexcel GCSE Science• How will it work?

• Everyone will take the CORE GCSE Science*. This counts as one GCSE and is compulsory.

*except for those who take all three separate sciences

• Around 80% of students are expected to do more than this.

• Student can take CORE GCSE Science and ADDITIONAL GCSE Science for two GCSEs

Edexcel GCSE Science• Students who wish to

study SEPARATE SCIENCES must ensure that they cover the CORE GCSE. They can do this by taking all three sciences for three GCSEs or by taking the CORE GCSE plus one separate science of their choice.
