101 Dalmatian's at the GLP
Regrouped Math By Johanna Funke
The fifth grade Regrouped Math students at Eden Elementary were guest teachers in some kindergarten, first, and second grade classrooms at GLP. The fifth grade students planned and created their own math games or activities and then shared them with the younger students. It was a great learning experience for both the younger and older students and was the perfect way to show how fun math can be!
Pictured are all the fifth grade students who participated.
This year, the GLP teachers and staff dressed as the 101 Dalmatians for Halloween with Principal Loran Carter as Cruella De Vil.

DECEMBER 2019
High School Students Make Gingerbread Houses
Eden Central School District is excited to be welcoming a new face to the administrative team. Mr. Jason (Jay) Iwankow began his position as Athletic Director/Assistant Principal on December 20th, just in time to meet the staff and students before the winter recess.
“This combined position of AD/AP was created to help in the reorganization of our Middle & High School, and Mr. Iwankow’s energy and passion is the reason he is a perfect fit for our school district”, stated Superintendent Anzalone. While Mr. Iwankow’s primary focus will be athletics, this will also give him an opportunity to make a difference with the entire 6-12 student body.”
Mr. Iwankow earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health from Canisius College, and a Master’s in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University. He has taught Health/Physical Education, and coached multiple sports at all tiers, for the last thirteen years. His most recent assignment was with the Niagara Wheatfield School District where he was a Dean of Students.
When asked about his new position, Mr. Iwankow stated, “I found my success academically in my career because of athletics. I know firsthand that it is a privilege to be a student athlete and how athletics overall impacts a student’s educational career.”
One of the reasons Jay was drawn to the Eden school district was the overall family atmosphere and sense of community. “I want to work for a school district that feels like home and where I can build successful relationships with all community members.”
Mr. Iwankow lives in West Seneca with his wife, Alison, his two-year old son, Jack and his dog, Reggie.
The district is grateful to Mr. Jim Graczyk for serving as our Interim Athletic Director, and to Mr. Jason Bernardone, GLP Physical Education teacher, for serving as our Teacher on Special Assignment, since the beginning of November. Their last day in this capacity was December 20th.
A Warm Welcome to Jason “Jay” Iwankow, Athletic Director/Assistant Principal

Please join us in welcoming the new Middle & High School nurse, Mrs. Ashley Geraghty.
The Eden School-Community welcomed its new High School Principal, Jason
Lyons. Mr. Lyons’ first day at Eden High School was December 20th. “To say that Mr.
Lyons is excited about this new adventure is an understatement”, stated
Superintendent Anzalone. “Our interview process is intense and Jason Lyons
undoubtedly proved that he will be the perfect addition to our family of educators.”
A graduate of Lake Shore High School, Mr. Lyons holds a Bachelor of Science in
History from SUNY Brockport, a Master of Science in General Education and a Master
of Science in Educational Administration & Supervision, both from Canisius College.
For the last twenty years, Mr. Lyons has taught Social Studies at North Collins High
School. He has also served as an Educational Specialist for the New York State
Education Department as a writer for the New York State Social Studies Regents
exam.
When asked about his new position, Jason stated,
“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to be the
Principal at Eden High School. I am looking forward to
building a relationship with the community and the
school. Together, we can build on the tremendous
success and tradition that has already been
established.”
Jason lives in Hamburg with his wife, Jennifer, and
two daughters, Sophia, 15 and Avery, 14. The District
is grateful to Mr. Joseph Lucenti, for his willingness
and flexibility to serve as our interim Principal since
August. Mr. Lucenti’s last day with Eden High School
was December 20, 2019.
A Warm Welcome to Jason Lyons, Eden High School Principal

The ETA hosts Youth Activity Night
The Eden Recreation Department and
Eden Middle School partnered together
for Youth Activity Night on Friday,
October 18th. The event was for
students in grades 6 - 8 with activities
for everyone. The Eden Teachers’
Association (ETA), sponsored candy bar
bingo, gyms were open for a variety of
games, including basketball and
dodgeball, and the pool was open for
open swim and water polo. Members of the Eden National Honor Society and others
volunteered to assist in gym games, ran the concession stand and helped with set up
and clean up duties.
The event was a huge success and there will be two more events this year on
January 17, 2020 and February 28,
2020.
Volunteer Staff Members include:
Chris Dobek
Abigail Guzzino
Randy Perison
Linda Schwanz

The holiday book tree was
on display at the Eden Middle
& High School Library in
December.
Students were invited to
guess how many books it took
to construct the tree.
The number of books in
this year's Library Book Tree
was 377. Seventh grader,
Reiley Schwabel had the
closest guess with 372.
From the Superintendent
Happy Winter!
In the last edition of our District Newsletter, I
asked you to hold back the snow for just a bit longer.
Well, you have certainly done a great job with that
request! We still have five snow days, and that takes a
bit of the pressure off. It’s January now, and I believe
we need a bit of snow!
In this edition, you will see a few new faces- our
new High School Principal, Mr. Jason Lyons; new
Athletic Director/Assistant Principal, Mr. Jay Iwankow; and our new Middle & High
School Nurse, Mrs. Ashley Geraghty. Please help me in welcoming all of them to
Eden Schools.
Our most updated school calendar can be found at EdenCSD.org. Please take a
look at this web calendar for events/calendar changes that may be important for you.
The hardcopy that we sent you last summer obviously cannot be updated once it is
printed. One important upcoming event is our Annual Community Budget Forum,
scheduled from 6:15-7:00pm in the Elementary School Auditorium on Wednesday,
January 15th.
We hope to see you at other events! Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Sandra Anzalone
