Our international EdD is aimed at creating a
meaningful educational experience including:
Finish your course work and dissertation in 8 semesters, a total of 3 years.
Courses are taught by ECU faculty members who have school leadership experience.
No residency requirement. Students do not have to take courses in the U.S.
Courses each semester are taught on-line (asynchronously). Summer courses (June) are taught face-to-face in Bangkok.
Flex school & community internships can be conducted where the student resides in the summer.
Courses are aligned with ECU campus program. Students have the option of taking summer courses in Greenville, NC (students must cover airfare and room and board- Visa req. for non U.S. citizens).
Each semester students take content and design courses. Content courses are mapped to national and international standards of school leadership and design courses are individualized for each student’s project/dissertation.
Regular milestones and check-in points help faculty and students monitor progress.
Each student has a professional portfolio that houses program artifacts.
Teams of students will be assigned a research coach. Coaches meet with students in Bangkok once a semester.
We encourage teams to apply from schools as a measure of support and for dissertation work- Team Dissertations.
ECU is a member institution of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED). This group is focused on making the EdD a true doctoral degree for practitioners. As such, the aim is to create an experience that honors the time and wisdom of full-time practitioners coupled with a learning experience that will ultimately improve one’s practice.
At ECU we have created a CPED inspired program that is three years—all in. That is, the course work and “problem of practice” (AKA dissertation or capstone project) are embedded throughout the three years. The final project may be completed individually or in teams.
This new EdD has been successfully piloted with a cohort in North Carolina where the 3 year completion rate was 90%-- The national 7 year average is less than 40%!
Cost:The $695/credit is an all in price—there are no hidden fees. Even books that are required by faculty will be covered. Additionally, students will have full access to the ECU library system. This system grants you access to the entire on-line catalogue at ECU.
The 60 credit program costs: $41,700
