Figure 11. The A/D design of the DT9816 and DT9816-A fea-tures built-in accuracy. A maximum aperture delay of 35 ns (thetime that it takes the A/D to switch from track to hold mode) iswell matched at 5 ns across all six track-and-hold circuits, virtual-ly eliminating the channel-to-channel skew that is associated withmultiplexed inputs. A maximum aperture uncertainty of 1 ns (thejitter or variance in aperture delay), virtually eliminates phasenoise in your data.

OverviewThe ECONseries features thepowerful GO! application to pro-vide economical, multifunctioninstruments for the USB bus.Simply install the software, con-nect your module to any USBport, and GO!

ECONseries modules are avail-able in a number of configura-tions to offer the maximum flexi-bility - select the number of ana-log and digital I/O channels, theresolution you need, and the sig-nal range required by your appli-

cation.

For measurements right out ofthe box, use the GO! application. The GO! application automatical-ly detects and configures themodule you are using, and pro-vides the following standardinstrument-like displays for dataacquisition, control, and display:

Oscilloscope - Stream, plot, andanalyze data from up to eightanalog input channels. Thesoftware automatically adjustsfor resolution and input signalrange. You can scroll, pan, zoom, or freeze live signals;select the trigger type, level, and channel; and print or saveyour data to an Excel file.

Chart Recorder - View andrecord up to 32,000 data pointsfrom eight analog input chan-nels. Data is logged to an Excelfile.Voltmeter - Measure and viewdata from up to eight analoginput channels with a 5-digitdigital display. You can chooseto display the maximum or trueroot mean square (RMS) value.File Viewer - Load a previouslysaved Excel file. You can scroll, zoom, pan, or print your data.Waveform Generation -Generate DC, sine, rectangle, triangle waveforms from up totwo analog output channels. You can select the duty cycle, frequency, amplitude, and off-set of the signal.Digital Input - Monitor the sta-tus of up to 28 digital inputsusing LEDs.Digital Output - Control thestate of up to 28 digital outputlines using switches.Counter - Count pulses fromthe counter/timer for 1, 2, or 5seconds or for an unlimitedtime and view the count in a 9-digit digital display.Rate Generator - Control thefrequency and duty cycle of acontinuous pulse output signalfrom the counter/timer.

ThroughputBefore selecting a module, con-sider whether you need analoginputs, and if so, what kind ofthroughput you need.

Modules with multiplexedinputs, such as the DT9810,DT9812-2.5V, DT9812-10V,DT9813-10V, and DT9814-10Vprovide only one A/D converterthat is shared by the inputs (seeFigure 23). A multiplexer selectsor switches the channel toacquire, which introduces a set-tling time and phase shiftbetween channels. In a multi-plexed architecture, the total oraggregate throughput is the max-imum rate of the sampling clock. The DT9810 provides an aggre-gate throughput of up 25 kHz,while the DT9812-2.5V, DT9812-10V, DT9813-10V, and DT9814-10V provide an aggregatethroughput of up to 50 kHz. Theper channel rate is determinedby dividing the maximum sam-pling rate by the number ofinputs sampled. For example, ifyou are acquiring 8 inputs on aDT9812-10V, the per channelrate is 6.25 kS/s.

In contrast, modules that pro-vide separate A/D converters perchannel (see Figure 24), such asthe DT9816 and DT9816-A, elim-inate the phase shift betweensignals, allowing you to correlatesimultaneous measurements ofmultiple inputs. The per channelsampling rate, in this case, is themaximum rate of the samplingclock (50 kS/s for the DT9816and 150 kS/s for the DT9816-A).Analog InputsThe DT9810, DT9812 2.5V, andDT9812-10V modules provide 8
